• • ~ Earlier that morning~

This day my mother was ACTUALLY home, so I felt like starting a conversation with her to see if the Shadows have been following my parents.
"Hey Mom?" I whimper, as I try to tell my mother something.
"Hmm, sorry did you say something sweetie?" My mother mumbles as she reads the newspaper in her left hand and holds her coffee in the right. She was all ready to go to work, in her gray pant suit.
"Um, yeah. I was wondering if have felt anything weird lately?" I gulp, fearing she would think I was going crazy.
"What? That is a very weird question Annabel, but I have been getting the chills a lot. I may be coming down with something. Why are you wondering?" She questions.
Great I think. Chills occur sometimes when a shadow is hunting or trying to steal someone’s soul. You see I've learned that Shadows are curious and dangerous creatures because they kill to survive. They also kill if they find out humans can see them and are trying to expose them. Though it seems toddlers can see them, but when they grow into their teens they think it's just their imaginations.
"Are you going to answer me?" She demands, raising her voice a tad.
"Sorry, um, I was just wondering. Where's Dad?" I ask, changing the subject.
"He left for a business trip this morning. He is driving to..." As she is talking I spot a Shadow crawling out from under the couch.
"Oh, when will he be back?" I ask her as I try to ignore the monster.
"Mmmm I believe in four days." She guesses.
"Oh...okay. Well Dylan is here to pick me up. So I'll see you in...." I drag on so she can answer.
"Four days... your father will be picking me up." She answers as she too gets up to leave for work. She doesn't kiss me on my cheek or say good bye, she just leaves.
"Bye to you too." I mumble. I turn and head for the front door where Dylan is waiting in his silver four door truck, kind is unknown (since I don't speak car). As I approach it I can see he had just taken a shower, hair still wet, and thrown on a clean red t-shirt and jeans.
As I open the door he replies "Hey beautiful! How you've been?" He laughs.
"Since yesterday? Same as always. Tired, happy to see you, and mostly tired." I laugh.
"How many hours?" He looks directly into my eyes.
"Um, sleeping? About one and a half hours.... are we going to leave or what?" I yawn.
"I'm sorry. We can just skip school and go to my house." He replies.
"Nah I'm fine. Nothing big will happen today." I say.

    Now
The lady in the skimpy black dress sits on the principal desk and crosses her skinny a** legs.
"My name is Lillian Moss. Nice to meet you." She told me.
"You said you had some bad news. What is it?" I ask annoyed.
"Oh, right." She drops her gaze to the white tiled floor. "It seems your parents have been in an accident." She whispered, loud enough for me to hear.
"WHAT?" That was all I could say.
"Your father got into a car accident. It seems he lost control of the wheel. And your mother was walking when some man stabbed her with a knife." She told me, expressionless.
    "My father....my mother.....I...I...." I cried.
"I can see this isn't going to be easy for you, but you have Dylan to stay by your side," Lillian suggested.
"Dylan? How do you know about him? Who are you people anyways?" I yelled.
"You should ask Dylan that. We will move all your belongings over to his house. If there is anything you would like to handle personally we will gladly take you out of school and bring you to your home." She explained.
"I need Dylan...." As I walk out the room, pass the pink blob. I find Dylan right in front of me leaning on the lockers, with a sad expression.
"Hey...”He spoke. Before he can say anything else I run into him and cling onto his shirt, crying my eyes out. He carries me to his car and drives me away from the school. In the car as he pulls away he mumbled "I'll tell you everything, but first you need to sleep." But as soon as he says sleep, I'm in a deep slumber.
