• You see there are these people with eyes that tell a story of a life once lived; you see they don’t have irises or pupils instead they have a picture, a picture of a place they couldn’t let go. So that picture became their eyes, eyes that tell a story of a life once lived. Everyone tries to stay away from them because they think those people are freaks, I like to call them angels because they do have wings and they just seem so angelic. Some people can tell when a person’s eyes will tell a story, but otherwise it’s the angels who can tell.

I closed my locker and sighed, no friends this year I couldn’t even talk to a freshmen why? Because people don’t like me, that’s why. I turned towards the doors as someone walked through them, I had never seen him before so I figured he was new I began to walk towards him as whispers drifted through the halls that he was one of them. I took in a deep breath and continued walking, “An angel! I finally get to meet an angel!” I thought excitedly I watched him look at the people in what seemed to be disgust, it’s like he hated the way people treated him and his kind, “I hope he doesn’t hate me” I stopped in front of him and smiled, “Hello.” I looked into his eyes and saw that the picture was a dark void with auburn brown at the bottom the auburn turned to a lighter shade until it stopped at a caramel color, his story wasn’t so good but I bet that color shows he had a good life as it ended. He had dis-shelved black hair, slightly tanned skin, and he was a good inch taller than me, he was wearing a white T-shirt and dark blue jeans.

He looked down at me and scrunched his eyebrows, “Hi.” My smile grew slightly, I was glad that he trusted me a little, “My name is Allyson” I stuck my hand and out to shake, hopefully he would shake it. He looked down at my hand for a moment before grabbing it and shaking it, “Caleb” he replied taking his hand away, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Caleb” I said smiling more. He quirked his right eyebrow and just looked at me, “Your eyes, they are going to tell a story someday” he said suddenly, I just looked at him and then to the floor, “Yeah, I know” I started as I looked back up at him “Someone once told me that my eyes would tell a story someday, and I can’t wait for that day to come.” He stared at me like he was trying to figure something out, I wouldn’t know what he would want to figure out, but right as it seemed he almost had it the bell rang and I jumped a little, “Ah! We better get going I’ll show you around later” I turned and we began to walk to our class.

About a month later and Caleb and I were almost really good friends; in my opinion you have to know a person for your entire life before you can call him friend for that matter to even think about loving him. He told me that there were a few other angels in the city, but I had to wait to meet them, of course that was fine with me, I had all the time in the world. I hit the pause button on my IPod and the song, Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie began to play I looked both ways on the street before beginning to move, I began to sing along to the lyrics as I heard the sound of tires screeching on the road I turned my head and saw a car coming my way. The man in the passenger seat looked scared and I could tell my own face showed fright, I wanted to move, but I couldn’t I was frozen where I stood, my heartbeat drummed erratically, and I was scared.

A man once told me that my eyes would tell a story someday and I decided that that day wasn’t going to be today. I began to move my legs as someone grabbed my arm and yanked me from the passage of the oncoming car I landed on him as he fell backwards onto the concrete and the car went zooming past us a few seconds later the car stopped. I shook my head and sat up on the concrete just then the man in the car came running up to us asking if we were okay and saying that he was sorry, “I really am sorry” he said again as he rubbed his head, “My breaks busted on me and I couldn’t stop the car” he looked down at me and then at the one who pulled me from the street, “Are you both okay?” He asked as he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket, “We’re fine” we said at the same time I looked to him and laughed a little as the man began speaking into his phone.

“Thanks for the save” I said looking at the boy, “No problem, I’ve made it my life to save damsels in distress” he replied as he leaned back on his elbows, he had sandy brown hair with a pair of brown eyes, lightly tanned skin, and he was wearing a set of pants and red T-shirt with a jacket on top. I laughed some more before extending my hand, “I’m Allyson” “Matthew” he said shaking it then he looked at me and his eyes widened, I wonder why? “Your eyes are going to tell a story someday” that’s why, “I know” I replied smiling at him.

It has been three months since I met Matthew and he and Caleb were getting along great which made me happy because I sort of had a small crush on Matt. I was in the middle of science when water began to spray everyone in the room I followed the teacher out the door and saw another boy standing in front of the utility closet, he had his hand wrapped around the handle and was slowly opening it, “DON’T!” I shouted but it was too late, the flames jumped into the hallway trying to absorb the delicious air surrounding it as the boy was set on fire and immediately killed. I turned my back and fell to the floor so as to not get heavily burned from the flames; after the sound of the fire from being released was over; I stood up, my head in a daze, and tried to look around. It was somewhat blurry but that soon disappeared, I saw people running around the hall screaming from the fire that was consuming them and most of the kids were already dead.

I felt someone yank on my arm and drag me out of the school I wanted to look at who it was but then I suddenly felt a searing pain on my back, my legs, and my right arm I let out a scream, but contained half of it. The person who was dragging me stopped and looked at me, it was Caleb, he saw the burns and then ran faster I did all I could to keep up. I was soon outside where most of the students were I heard sirens in the distance and terrified screams. A few minutes later the firemen arrived along with the ambulance I looked back at the building and saw that it was completely engulfed in flames, people were stuck on the roof, in the windows, and some were running out of the building some on fire some not. I turned to look back at Caleb but he was already rushing back into the building, “CALEB!” I screamed at him but he didn’t turn back I felt someone tug on my arm and try to get me too lie down, but I couldn’t I had to make sure Caleb would come out safe.

I heard the noise of flapping wings behind me and turned my head, there was another angel I had never seen their wings and I was astounded at the size of them of course with his height he would need the entire wingspan he had. He flew straight into the building and soon two other female angels went in after him I stared into the flames after them and listened to my heart beat roar. A few minutes later Caleb came out with a girl in his arms and he went back in, soon the other angels came out with teachers and kids until the school was emptied of them. Caleb came up to me and smiled, he had soot and blood all over him and he still managed to smile, “Take her to the hospital” he told some of the ambulance drivers, they nodded their heads and soon I was in the car they injected some resin into me and I was soon asleep.

One year later, the fire that consumed my school was started by a cigarette and that’s exactly why I hated those things. I got to meet Caleb’s friends and saw that one of the girls was well a girl; her name was Jade and she had died at a young age, but her eyes were a picture of a garden in the summer. The other female was Katherine and her eyes were of tall grass swaying in the wind with a tranquil forest in the distance, the man was Jonathan, he had the image of the waves crashing on the beach a few seagulls were overhead and the sky had a few clouds in it. Kat and I had become good friends over the past year, and I still had a crush on Matt, and I still hadn’t told him.

I smiled at Matt as he made his way towards where I was standing I looked back at the scene in front of me and realized that it was a scene I never wanted to let go. I was standing on the ledge of a skyscraper as the sun began to set behind a taller building, Caleb was standing next to me and Jade was sitting on the ledge. Kat and Jonathan were flying in the sky goofing around as the wind blew my hair behind me; it was the perfect scene.

A man once told me that my eyes would tell a story someday, today just wasn’t that day.
