• Serenity stared blankly at the worksheet in front of her holding her thick pencil in hand not bothering to answer the question.
“Serenity you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up?” her teacher asked quietly. It was Serenity’s turn for the “All About Me” board and she knew all the answer to most questions but the one.
“I was told not to think about it because I have no chance of growing up,” she said with depression heavy in her chest. She didn’t like to talk about her disease; her Emphysema that shortened her life span. She scanned over all the questions and answers.

“I think that you should try and tell me what you want to be.”
Serenity ran through everything in her mind. “I don’t really know,” she shrugged, “I’m not really good at anything.”
“There are a lots of things you could do like be a doctor, lawyer, artist, police officer, fire fighter, ballerina, actress, the list is endless.”
“I’d want to be an -” Serenity stopped with abashment. She didn’t want her classmates or her teacher to know. This would surely scare them.
“Be what Serenity, you can tell me.”
Serenity whispered the word quietly, “An exorcist.” What kind of a five year old girl wanted to be an exorcist? But as previously pointed out Serenity was no average five year old.
    “An exorcist?”
“Yes I want to banish demons, and evil spirits from the houses and buildings.” Serenity knew this job would be easy for her. She could read the minds of demons and quickly expel them; after all she did posses an angel’s soul. As a Host she was tightly related to God and her ability to cast out evil could be as easy as stepping in the room, depending on who she was up against that is. “You find that frightening don’t you? A little girl wanting to banish demons back to Hell. But what does it matter? I’m going to die in a few short years anyway.”
Nobody could truly ever understand Serenity. She was pain stricken and clouded with depression. She had always been that way. It’s what you get when you never live a normal childhood. Her childhood would never be normal no matter what. From an early age she learned how to survive, how to fight, how to destroy a non-human creature. How to throw a dagger right on target. But most importantly how to keep the secret from the mortals.
That was something a normal child didn’t get. And her dark aura came with it. Everything from her dark velvet cape down to the fact that death always seemed like a good answer… to everything.
“You are scared. Everyone is scared. I’m scary.” She sighed; she knew that everyone would be. But she just hoped that there would be one person out there who wouldn’t be. Someone who accepted her and would be her best friend, who just understood her, who knew what a normal childhood wasn’t like. Someone who was like her.
