• “In other news, Dr. Vontease was robbed last night in the early hours of two and three a.m. The belongings that were stolen are as listed. Eight karat golden egg, three pounds of jewelry, a flat screen television, a black Fender, and several crystal and sterling silver frames. If you have any knowledge of the whereabouts of these items please call the police.” The news anchor announced. “Coming up, a man and-“ The television switched off and the sound of cheering could be heard. The chair that sat in the middle of the room spun around and a girl; whom seemed very pleased with herself, sat in it. Her black hair was waist long and pulled over her left shoulder. Her eyes, a piercing emerald green. Her skin complexion was an olive toned and smooth. In her left hand sat the stolen gold egg. She stood from the chair and raised the egg into the air. Everyone that surrounded her cheered loudly, clapping their hands. The girl lifted her other hand into the air and everyone grew quiet.

“Last night was a success.” She yelled over the crowd of people. Everyone cheered then settled down as she went to raise her hand again. “Though tonight, we must do better. Tonight we hit the White’s, tonight we score big. Now Toby has the plans made out so please remain quiet as he tell you your places.”

A goofy looking boy stumbled onto the stage just as the girl stepped off. She moved through the crowd of people to the very back and stood against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest. She looked up to the stage and watched Toby stutter to tell the plans. His brown hair knotted and plastered with mud. His clothes were stained and dirty, ripped in some places here and there. His glasses where two sizes too big and the right eye glass were cracked. The girl nodded to herself, taking note of the boy’s appearance.

“Don’t you ever rest Shadow?” came a soft, soothing voice.

Shadow turned to look beside her and found Kent. Kent had been Shadow’s long time friend since day one. His blond hair long and messy, his complexion was dark due to his afternoon surfs. Across his nose and cheeks were sun freckles that most women found attractive. His lips were pulled at the corners into a devilish grin, his mud brown eyes staring at Shadow. Shadow smiled back and nudged him.

“You know I can’t. I’m surprised your even here.”

Kent shrugged and looked at the stage to watch Toby.

“So, tonight we’re robbing the White’s. What about tomorrow?”

    “The John’s.” Shadow replies quickly.

Kent looked at her, his eyes narrowed. “How about the day after?”

    “The Clark’s”

Kent scoffed and rolled his eyes back to Toby. “Geez Shadow, you’ve got everything figured out don’t you?”

Shadow shrugged and tossed the egg up in the air. “You have to in order to be prepared.”
The egg fell back into her hand and she tossed it up once again. Kent looked at her, his attention following the egg as it flew into the air and back into her hand.

“What if we get caught one day?” Kent asked bobbing his head to follow the eggs movement.

“No one will get caught. If any one does then it’d be me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
After watching the egg fly up once more, Kent placed his hand over the egg as it rested in her hand. “Would you please stop that?”

Shadow looked at Kent and smiled. “Come with me I have something to show you.”

She pushed away from the all and walked out of the side door. Kent followed behind her into a long hallway.

“So tell me again why we live in a rundown hotel.” He said looking at the chipped paint and burned carpet.

Shadow shrugged and kept walking towards the end. “Because it has many rooms and a large meeting area. It’s a very good place to stay if you ask me, better then living on the streets.”

Kent nodded agreeing with his friend and the point she made.
“So what is it that you wanted to show me?”

Shadow looked over her shoulder and smiled. “Don’t worry about it. I know you’re going to love it.”

Kent watched her for a moment before shrugging it off, knowing Shadow would never tell a surprise. The two of them went up a flight of stairs to the fourth floor and down another hallway.

“So it’s on the fourth floor huh? It must be really important to be here.” Kent said jokingly.
Shadow laughed. “It is very important and hidden. I came across it a few months ago. I think it was the owner’s private study.”

Kent looked at her puzzled but smiled slyly. “So is this were you’ve been going when you randomly disappear?”

Shadow nodded her head and kept walking. They reached the end of the hall and stopped. Shadow turned to Kent with a smile on her face as they stood in the hallway.

“Do you see anything?” She asked.

Kent looked at the wall in front of them, then at the one behind them shaking his head. Shadow smiled wider as she pushed on the wall in front of them.
