• Cold, it was a word to describe the weather. The snow was pure, pure as light itself. I could feel the snowflakes touch my cheeks and fade. I wish I could stand here forever, but the car, the keys, and my bag cried out for warmth. I sighed throwing back my chocolate hair as I run towards my 98’ mustang.
I have just reached my destination and I could hear all the people talking, laughing, crying, or just being silly like the jock standing on the edge of the fountain having the perfect angle to fall- oh he fell while I was explaining what would happen. Even though I love almost every day of my life, there was one thing I dreaded. FRIDAYS. They always meant quizzes…
“HELLO SARAH! I GOT US A CASE! I GOT US A CASE!” My friend Ella says with her blue eyes spinning around and her hair whipping innocent bystanders.
“Which case is it?” I say trying to pry off my frozen beanie and grab my “casebook” getting ready for her major inside scoop.
“MURDER.” She says the name of the officer’s most difficult case yet. We giggled because we spooked the kid behind us really badly. Suddenly the “Bell for jail” rang and we got ready for our hideous classes.
After school, I drive up to 1958 Airheart Street looking for a house crawling with cops. I knew they would let me in because I was the only nut-job in Nevada that can solve a case at 16. I put on my white gloves and begin to investigate the crime scene in my own way. It was gruesome but nothing new that I have yet to seen. I asked questions and quickly jotted them down into my casebook.
I press the play button on the video player to see what the suspects had to say.
Officer Mike: Tell me where you were at the time of 8:00 pm through 9 surprised opm?
Anne: I was at the grocery store.
    Officer Mike: Details madam.
    Anne: I-WAS-THERE.
Officer Mike: madam I need more information.
    Anne: That’s all sir.
    (FWD>> wink
    Officer Mike: Tell me-
Mitchell- I was at home asleep. There was no witness due to the fact my wife was at the office working late.
Officer Mike: (jolts down information) is that all sir?
    Mitchell: Yeah.
    (FWD>> wink
    Officer Mike: Where were you-
Cassie: I was at a friend’s house between 7:00pm- now. If you call her, she can back me up. In addition, I was busy before that time at high school helping coach out in the lockers, you can check with her too.
Officer Mike sad quiet, begins to write information with shocked face.) Is that all madam?
    Cassie: Yup….That is all.
    (Pause II)
I look down at the notes I took on their reactions, nothing made sense until it hit me. It was that person’s movement. It was also the wire that was still hiding near the crack in the wall and the fan having a silver thread swinging from it. I smiled and asked the nearest officer to get everyone into the room as I gathered what will be needed for our “beheading” trick.
“Inspector Ian, can you get me the piano wire, and clean the fan on the ceiling really quick? In addition, can you get me-“ I begin to whisper the other items because they were down the hall and I wished for that person not to hear what I was about to do.
After a few minutes, I brought the suspects, witnesses, also the cops who were working at the site to see the show.
“Everyone here? Good let us begin. I know who did it, but let us watch the show.” I say with my special stance and look. The cops knew it had happen, my major click. I signal to the cop to press the button on his phone and waiting for the machine to answer, once it answered the tape begin to move and the fan switched on. Suddenly the thin silver piano wire begin to tighten around the dummies’ neck until it got so tight, it acted like a knife with a clean cut! Everyone was shocked, but when they looked back at me, they saw my hand point at the culprit.
“It was you Cassie. Your voice recording was proof. Even though I cut off most of the meeting, which did not involve you speaking about your call, but it was odd of how long the recording lasted. In addition to that comment, you had hatred towards Mr. Kane because he left you. Left you like a doll to never be used again.” I hit a major nerve. She begins to fight back, in the end, “justice will always prevail”, just as my favorite cartoon character would say if he solved this case. Looks like I Sarah Ray did it again.
