• It was one of those days where I found myself sitting at home alone and ended up dragging myself out of my comfortable environment and to one of the most popular locations of the youths in this day and age; the mall. I cannot say I have a problem with the mall itself, it is indeed a convenience for someone like me who does not enjoy large crowds, but then at the same time I forgot that it was in fact Saturday. Yes, it was a normal weekend, just like any other day, but it was not just Saturday, but it was the unannounced 'lunch time' for, what it seemed like, at least fifty percent of the mall population.

I sat at one of the many tables in the overly large food court slowly picking at the fries I had ended up purchasing not a moment before the rush of mothers feeding their children, pre-teens and young teens that were dressed in clothes that would better suit people at least six years older than them and many others, had happened. Looking at the clothes and "styles" those younger girls were wearing, I glanced down at my out chosen attire and smirked to myself. My outfit consisted of a guys baggy shirt with a somewhat witty comment written across the chest and a pair of grey cargo pants; comfort is key in dressing when you're being yourself, or that's my theory anyway.

A familiar and surprisingly common high pitch cry pierced through the buzzing of chatter, though it was ignored. I turned my upper body around and momentarily grasped my hand on the back of my chair before releasing, regretting the moment I did so as my hand now had a sticky feeling to it. Ignoring the question of what I just put my hand on, I pinpointed the location of commotion; a small child was causing a fuss for his mother about his food and how it was not what he wanted.
"God, I hate kids…" I muttered the comment under my breath slowly before turning around and grabbing my backpack like bag and rummaging around in it with my hand. Grabbing a hold of what I wanted from within the depth of my bag, I pulled out my sweet savior. Grabbing my headphones, I placed them on my ears and unlocked my iPod. Sweet sanctity. My choice of music is not exactly popular with my age group, but who cares what the general masses like, if they have a problem with the fact I enjoy Japanese music over the crap they want to call music from people such as… Well, I don't even remember their names, that should prove just how much of a significance they are to me.

Shaking my head a bit, I turned my attention back onto my fries. Greasy but delicious, I continued to eat them, avoiding the use of my contaminated hand by whatever questionable substance was on the back of my chair. There was something about the air in the mall that always seemed unnatural. It could be the fact that there was a mass amount of bodies packed into a single interconnected building that did not really have any source of natural air flow besides the air conditioning that was jacked up. Or it was that all the scents from the busy bodied people in the mall were mixing, along with perfume from the department stores and those body and bath places combined with the smell of fast food, greasy, unhealthy but delicious fast food. I paused momentarily and glanced down at my fries; my last thought still lurking in my head.
"You only live once." I made the comment to myself and mentally brushed the comment out of my mind. I had bigger fish to fry in life than to worry about what could be the instant cause of death that medical doctors seemed to be warning us of every single day. As depressing as it is, when I die, I'll die. This does not mean I'm welcoming death to me, like most people, I do have some sort of unknown fear of death, but it's natural, we live to die.

My attention was suddenly drawn to the object in my pocket that started to vibrate against my leg. Removing my headphones from my ears, thus in turn allowing the chatter of the masses to reach my eardrums properly again, I fished my small, uninteresting black and orange cell phone from my pocket and glanced at the screen. Raising an eyebrow, I lifted the small phone to my ear while pressing the button to answer the call with my thumb.
"What's up?" I questioned casually, awaiting the response of my friend. It was often I got a call from people, but when I did, I was glad to talk or listen. "Wait, sorry, could you repeat that?" my eyes thinned slightly out of annoyance, the noise level always seems to rise when you are trying to talk to someone on the phone. With my other hand I covered my left ear, successfully nullifying some of the uninvited noise. "Right now?" a smile appeared on my lips at the suggestion my friend had made out of the blue. "Uh, yeah, sure I guess, but-" I found myself stop in mid sentence as a male on a cell phone sat down in front of me and gave a little wave.
"Hi there." he spoke casually with a stupid grin plastered across his face as his voice echoed through his cell phone and and came out of mine. I laughed into the phone, neither of us had the intention of hanging up even though we were face to face.
    "Idiot."
