• We stood in front of what used to be a famous restaurant, but now deserted in this waste land we call earth. Me and my wife; Dana, had been traveling for what we think has been 2 years. As for the young boy and girl, we found them a year back. Their twins and they get along very well; not only do they get along, but they say their father taught them how to shoot a gun. I don’t question it much because they’re handling this situation very well and don’t cause us any trouble.
My wife took her gun out of the holster on her thigh. We nodded at each other, giving the signal for everyone to do their part. The twins Violet and Vincent checked to see if the abandoned cars were empty; they were. Vincent nodded at Dana, Violet saw the signal and moved stealthy and quietly up to the door of the restaurant with her back to the wall, head turned looking through the door, and her gun held in both hands pointed up, hiding the left side of her face. Once Violet was in position Dana came up to the door both hands grasping her gun.
I pointed to the other side of the door & Vincent did the same thing that his sister had done. Dana now held the gun in her left hand, opening the door cautiously. Vincent and Violet brought their guns up, ready to point and shoot incase anything came charging at the door from the side. I started walking up to the door as Dana made her way through. I put my hand by my knife holster.
I didn’t have a gun, in fact I never learned how to shoot one so we look for sharp objects that I can work with or items that can be constructed into a weapon. Vincent and Violet stayed to guard the door. They’re job is to shoot whatever tries to get in; if the creature is peaceful they’re not to shoot it and to merely let it walk by. Dana looked around trying to find the bathrooms; I put my back to hers watching her back incase anything decides to attack from behind. The creaking of the rusty old door helped no one to relax.
Dana pointed her gun at the stalls while I stood by the bathroom door waiting for something to come running in. Slowly and carefully she opened each stall. The last one that she opened I heard her squeal, trying her best not to scream. I ran up to her to see what was wrong, it was a man’s body; dead of course and had never turned into a zombie. I ran my hand up and down her back to comfort her a bit, I was still nervous something might come through the doors.
Dana washed her face off with the water from the sink and recomposed herself. She went over to the door, opening it only enough to see through the crack, and then slowly opening it wider and wider. I was hunched ready to spring into a fight, ready to throw the knife into a brain dead zombie. She walked out and into the girl’s bathroom; I followed behind her and waited for Dana to go through the whole proses again.
    BAM!
I jumped half way in the air and turned to look at Dana. I saw her walk into the stall and shoot again, which didn’t scare me as much as the first shot had. She stepped out of the stall; letting the breath of air she’d held in escape her lungs. She had been worse than this, when this apocalypse started she would freeze up and start shaking like crazy when a zombie was near. Once she held her breath for so long she passed out, had to wait two days before she woke back up again.
“You ok Honey?” I looked at her cautious.
She looked me in the eyes “Yeah, I’m fine.” She said out of breath.
I looked at her relieved “Let’s go, the twins are probably wondering if we’re ok.”
She didn’t say anything, but she listened and we walked back to the door the way we had when we walked into the restaurant. Violet looked back at us through the door, she opened it just a crack.
    “I presume you’re ok.”
“Yeah, Dana and I are fine.”
Vincent was looking around the whole landscape making sure he saw nothing out of the ordinary and spoke “and I presume that you should be fine.”
This time Dana spoke “What do you mean by that hot shot?!”
I grabbed Dana’s arm trying to tell her to calm down. Vincent turned to look at the two of us, Violet turned to look at the landscape.
“What I mean is that we should be able to trust everyone without having to wonder if your fine. Violet and I heard two shots so we figured the both of you were fine. We can’t doubt our team mates when we’re out here doing our job.”
After hearing what Vincent said, Dana calmed down a bit.
“The restaurant is clear; we’ll be searching for food and weapons.” I said to break the silence.
I tugged at Dana’s arm and she followed. We soon found out that the restaurant had been recently restocked before the apocalypse so there was certainly a lot of food. I went back outside and told the twins to bring the ‘grocery bags’ in the restaurant. Violet came back with five of them and when I came back to the door all the bags were full. Violet loaded them back on the truck and took out my weapon bag. She tossed it to me; I caught it and started to the kitchen with Dana watching my back. I searched high and low for all the knife’s or sharp objects that I could use. I ended up with a Butcher knife, Cleaver, steak knife, etc. My wife saw how excited I was and giggled. I looked at her in the eyes, brushed back a strand of her hair, and kissed her roughly; leaving both of us breathless.
    BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM!!!!
We both jumped at the sound of the guns and as we ran for the door I expected the worst. My wife got to the door first; still in our look-out-for-zombies-in-the-restaurant mode. She gasped with a slight cry. Her voice cracked when she said my name; I came up to stand beside her. We were surrounded by zombies.
We hugged and quickly kissed each other. I walked out first then Dana came out standing in the middle of Vincent and Violet.
“I’ll get to the car. All of you stay here and back me up.”
I heard Dana scream no, but she saw that I had already made my mind up when I took the machetes that were in their holster on my back. They were excellently sharpened and in good condition, only rarely did I ever use these and when I did, I had a hell-of-a-time. I smiled and ran up to the zombies slitting their throats and practically slicing their heads off. Blood splattered my face, my hands sticky on the machetes from the blood as well. The car was just an arm’s length away; I stabbed the machetes into two zombie’s head’s, I pulled myself up, put my feet on their shoulders, and at the same time pulled the machetes out of their head and jumped onto the truck.
I looked back at Dana giving her a wink and a thumb’s up. She smirked, not believing what I just did. I jumped down, no zombies on the driver’s side; I shrugged, got in the truck, unlocked the doors, started it up and ran over all the zombies. Violet, Vincent and Dana killed off the rest of the zombies that were closer to them. When it was all over I waited for them to hop in the truck and we drove on.
There was no safe place. There was no one, but us. There was nothing, but zombie’s day in and day out. That is what the zombie apocalypse is all about.
