• The Lady's Amulet

The lady's amulet was dark and red,
like the garnet tresses on her head.
    Shining in the moonlight fair,
as she went to meet a stranger there.

The lady's amulet was green and loam,
The color of the ocean's foam.
    Taken - perhaps - from mermaid's lair.
Once wound in thick, coiled, braids of hair.

Who did the lady go to meet?
    A crone, a thief, a lover sweet?
Did she a grandmotherly warning heed,
or gallop away on borrowed steed?

If you should see an amulet glow,
like a ruby in the snow,
Put on the necklace and listen well:
to your ears only will it tell.
