• The journey led through uncharted lands,
    wandering the the dismal everlasting sands.
    The search for the city of Eldorado,
    the golden city, lost to all,
    legend says riches fill the halls.
    an entire city, made of gold;
    the location forgotten so long ago.

    After discussing with natives,
    the conquistadors set off, led by greedy motives.
    their quest was long and hard,
    being led only by a bard.

    The man had seen the city of gold.
    He described it as "to breathtaking to behold."
    The bard was terrified to go to that place.
    He said it was haunted, by an ancient race.

    Yet the conquistadors payed him little heed,
    blinded by there bottomless greed.
    led by their greedy want for gold,
    caused the men to be too bold.

    they arrived at their destination in less than a week;
    the mighty and overpowering mountain, Pike's Peak.
    The bard left them at a cave entrance,
    and then fled, in his fearful trance.

    The conquistadors followed the path to their dooms,
    forever trapped in those beautiful gold rooms.
    For there was something haunting the abandoned place;
    the angered spirits of a long dead race.

    What's the point, you might ask;
    the moral is hidden behind a poetic mask.
    Greed drove these men to their deaths;
    their spirits will never again be at rest.

    For greed is the world's most dangerous sin,
    It factored in all those men's maniacal grins.
    Read the poem, hopefully the message you will heed;
    and never fall victim to the powerful sin of greed.
