• What do you wish for when you wish upon a star?
    To become globally famous or to travel afar?

    Some say save the planet, while others pray for peace,
    My brother hopes for grades, my father wants a lease.

    Do you wish the same thing every chance you receive?
    To finally get the girl, the car – or do you believe,

    That instead of kneeling by the foot of your bed,
    Hands clasped together with prayers yet to be said,

    In the time you spend longing for dreams,
    Blowing birthday candles, breaking wishbones, it seems

    That the more you wish, you long, you hope,
    The ever-growing staircase appears longer, the scope

    Of your hopes and dreams seem ever far away
    Until the clock ticks ten – in shatters they lay.

    Unable to piece them whole once more,
    Remorseful that you had done nothing before,

    But craft silly wishes and hopes for happy endings;
    They were only, from the start, just imaginings.

    So what do I wish for when I wish upon a star?
    The truth is: I don’t – living is better by far.
