Mirror
Reflects what it is given
Double-sided
One side magnifies the imperfections
While the other makes them life sized and easy to handle
Shows the self-consciousness

Fantasy disguised as fact
Creating an escape
From the world around me
The myths we all tell ourselves.

Pencils
Only pencils
Pens show mistakes
You can't erase them
Maybe that's why
The erasers are half-gone

Wrappers and juice boxes
Reminders of lunches from the past
Shells of the nourishment
Once devoured

Backpacks
Three of them
Carrying all the weight
Of my day
All the responsibilities and burdens
Of a senior
In high school
