• You were the paladin of despair
Mama always told me to beware
Your words pierced me, and you were unaware
My time is up, next stop, the death chair

You were the cadence of my breaths
Any faster, and I would have been dead
So many emotions of fear and dread
Chanting in my head "Is this over yet?"

You took me higher, far away
To a place where the spirits played
The look on their faces were of dismay
    Forgotten and forced to obey

You shook me up until I was dry
'Til I had no more tears to cry
Your face resembled a great wry
When I couldn't spread my wings and fly

Now that I am much smarter
I've learned to not become a martyr
I'm making history, like Jimmy Carter
With my wings back, I'm again a darter.
