• “What are you reaching for, grandfather?”
    “The sky, young one.”
“Why do you reach for the sky, grandfather?”
“Because it is my dream, young one.”
“How long has it been your dream, grandfather?”
“Since the day I first saw it, young one.”
“Will you ever reach the sky, grandfather?”
    “No, young one.”
    “Do you still reach, grandfather?”
    “I do, young one.”
“But is it not hopeless, grandfather?”
    “So very hopeless, young one.”

The great one groaned, starting to fall.

    “I am dying, young one.”
“But your dream was not fulfilled, grandfather!”
“I see now that it was an unreachable dream, young one.”
“Then what is the purpose of dreaming, grandfather?”
“To give us hope, young one.”
“But this price is too high, grandfather.”
“Then there is no hope for you, young one.”

The great one collapsed, crushing the young one back to the ground.
He can no longer see the sky above nor the ground below.
There is only darkness. Inescapable darkness.
