• SHADOWS IN THE STARLIGHT
    UC Poika

the full moon rose in the night time’s starlight
to play the leading role in the movie of life
written by lovers for their loves to see
before the wild pairs laid down their cards
and drifted off as framers of the darkness’ rights
with hands that Fate hadn’t dealt as for a laugh
but to punish those left out, forgotten, and grieved
ignored as Love’s brass ring called her lovers apart,
aside to dissolve them in romantic plays
too private to view, too graphic to ever hide
as even the sun comes up and watches in its way
when fairness returns to judge where guilt coincides
but the lonely slept alone, cuddled with pain
cursing their gods and asking once more, Why me? again
