• Awaken in a hospital bed,
With Fuzzy memory's of last nights dread.
Another beating? Or a doing of her own.
No one but her and her stuffed bear know.
Just seven years of age, already leaving in a cage.

One day the girl though to herself while looking into a book,
"I want to be like this bird, with wings to fly away."
But even the most beautiful of birds have cages in which they are confided
This sweet bird with beautiful feathers and the sweetest song. locked into a cage for just to long.

As the girl grew older, and developed more she noticed the leering eyes of her father.
Mother uncaring and barely home to make or take notice of this didnt know.
One night when her mother had gone to work and she'd been coming home from a friends house, she'd notice many empty beer bottles on her way into the living room.
Remembering her horrors from when she was just so young attempted to run back out the door...but sadly that option was gone.
she gritted her teeth and prepared for a beating.
but what was coming next was utterly misleading, as he glided his hand against her skin.
She cringed knowing her horror had just begin.
awoken hours later in her bed. shaking and and silently crying
and there with the musky smell he was lying on top of her.
in her mind she screamed and lashed out at him.
but there was nothing to be done. what could she do? she had no where to run.
Slowly she crawled from under him without disturbing the drunken beast.
grabbed a knife as she did many times in her youth and started cutting.
She'd didn't stop this time.. she just kept cutting and cutting and then.. went blank.. with her bear clutched in her arms she lied still on the floor and cried red tears forever more...

    Awoken in a hospital bed..
with fuzzy memories of last nights dread...
Marks of many rest on her arms,
but to her they were like charms.
to count the times she and her bear
    Had broken the cage's snare.
