• I woke in a sweat, with a startling fright,
On the apex of my darkest night,
With only a shadow to fill my sight,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I trace down a shadow with a cold dead stare,
Could there be something in the doorway there?
The anomaly vanished into thin air,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I walked into the corridor of the manor,
As the shadow rushed across the banner,
It had something to do with my dream I'm quite sure,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

The shadow was covering all of the den,
    And it disappeared once again,
And up the stairs I saw it ascend,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I dashed towards the monster in a fit of rage,
How dare it provoke the emotions I cage,
When all of the sudden it drops a white page,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I picked it up, looking around me,
Wondering what this thing could be,
Wondering why it had to flee,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I picked up the page, and then I got weary,
The words that I read made me weak and dreary,
When the shadow was cast a little too near me,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

The hairs on my neck jumped out of place,
As I turned around, I stared in deaths face,
Why couldn't I dream of a wonderful place?
    I believe I dreamt I died.

He held up a finger and without saying a word,
The words on the page came true? How absurd,
But what had been happening had actually occurred,
    I believe I dreamt I died.

He touched me and then I finally died,
In painful agony I moaned and I cried,
There wasn't a thing I could do, the pain wouldn't subside.
    I believe I dreamt I died.

I woke in a sweat, with a startling fright,
On the apex of my darkest night,
With only a shadow to fill my sight,
    I believe I dreamt I died.
