I don't want to be that girl ... In your dreams.
That's barely .. even there.
Silent, as she screams.
She flits in and out trying to be seen.
Would you even notice if she smiled?
Would you even know if she were. ... gone .. for a while?
Would you care?
How many times , have you hoped...
That she would just ... disapear.
Stop lurking in that doorway,
Leave your mind, your thoughts....your fear.
But she's not wanting trouble,
She just wants a friend.
Because the stares and the whispers,
Are worse than the cold.
The hard ground is managed,
But hard comments grow old.
And you would understand..
If you just took her hand.
Spent one day in her shoes..
Searching for pennies that got loose.
And you'd know what I mean,
One day unseen .
Do you have a dime?
And you'd know what I meant,
One night on the cement.
Can you spare ... some time?
And this girl is curled there,
Against the world so cruel.
Hold out a hand,
Send a smile.
That'll last her for a while.
Welcome in your dream this girl.
That's rarely even heard.
She sits in that doorstep, without any light.
Be kind to this girl, Take away the fright.
And you'd know what I mean.
Those frights unseen
Do you have a dime?
And you'd know what I meant.
On night on the cement.
Can you spare some time?

Description:
This is a song that I wrote, while participating in a five day homeless campaign.
It opened up my mind to the issues that many youth face when confronted with things that they don't have the capacity or support to deal with. Including unsafe environments at home. When youth don't know where to go, and go to the streets becasue they don't know the options. - Date: 06/24/2010
