From haunted hills and misted moors
beneath the starry skies
along the stony path, whispers singing
can't you hear them, the restless dead
oh, the voices of the fallen
see the lone horseman atop the hill
as he leaves behind his pale maiden's arms
a last goodbye, he receives her silver kiss
can't you hear them, leaders of old
oh, the voices of the fallen
before he goes to lead the charge
forward the infantry, young boys with sturdy spears
onward the cavalry, mounts foaming at the mouth
unleash the heavy horse, great steeds of valor
can't you hear them, the lost soldiers
oh, the voices of the fallen
the smoke has cleared on the watered field
red rain come and passed
single footsteps across the shattered plain
silent tears to the cloudy sky
can't you hear them, those noble souls
oh, the voices of the fallen
his maiden hides her face in a stormy veil
as the red rain is turned cold and pure
his prayers are offered to the heavens
sacrifices to the dead
can't you hear them, frightened lambs
oh, the voices of the fallen
though his voice has failed and sense rebels
knowing the wrong he did, his orders given
and obeyed, oh immortal lies, the general told
his young men paid the final price of failure
the proud strong future who are never coming home
can't you hear them, sons who died before their fathers
hark! the voices of the fallen
listen, learn, live their story
brave hearts, unbridled minds, and their commander
whose only lover was the moonlight
they shall not be forgotten
can't you hear their cries in the darkness
these are the warnings of history, let it not be remade
nor our past become our future, oh misery, for wrongs done oft
can't you hear them, the mournful dead
hark! the voices of the fallen
