Looking for Forum Assistants - Join the team! | First Page | Forum | Gaia Online

Welcome to Gaia! ::

Gaia Online is currently looking to add more dedicated, creative, and passionate individuals to the volunteer Forum Assistant team. Forum Assistants help keep Gaia safe and clean by moving misplaced threads to more appropriate forums and serve an essential purpose to the site. For example, an FA assigned to the Wanted forum may move threads which are selling items to the Exchange forum, or an FA assigned to the Pets forum may move a discussion about desserts to the Food & Drink forum.

Previous experience is not necessary. If you are willing to train as a Forum Assistant and put in the active effort, the Forum Assistant team will give you all the tools necessary for the job. If you are interested in a unique experience as a volunteer of Gaia, please consider applying to be a Forum Assistant on Gaia.

Why would I want to be a Forum Assistant?
As part of Gaia's moderator team, Forum Assistants (often called FAs) work to keep forums clear of low-content threads, and to move misplaced threads to forums where they belong. As Forum Assistants, you are helping all Gaians have a more positive, engaging experience.

What are you looking for in a Forum Assistant?
There are a few things we look for in a great Forum Assistant:

  • Respect and Professionalism: Gaia is a global community, and all kinds of people come here, including people with whom you might not agree. If you can appreciate that people have these differences, and make your decisions without considering them, you will do well! As a Forum Assistant, you will be working as a member of a team and with other members of Gaia on a daily basis.

  • Good Judgment: Forum Assistants are active community members who are devoted to creating a fun and enjoyable forum experience for everyone by removing content that does not belong in a specific forum. In order to do this properly, Forum Assistants need to have good judgment. Good judgment is all about deciding the best way to create a healthy forum; it's also about being able to ask for advice when you aren't sure about the best way. Sometimes you'll use your powers to solve a problem; sometimes you will serve as an educated reporter in order for moderators to solve the problem; sometimes no action will be required. As a Forum Assistant, you'll learn which option is the best for each situation.

  • Dedication: A Forum Assistant's goal is helping to keep Gaia neat and tidy. It doesn't mean you have to go out and look for threads to move; it means that when you see a thread that needs to be moved to a more appropriate forum, you'll take a moment and send it on its way. We are looking for Gaians who are active on the site and actively engaged in the community.

  • Knowledge of the Rules: A Forum Assistant's job is ultimately to enforce an assigned forum's Rules & Guidelines. While you will go through training in order to become a Forum Assistant, you will be expected to have at least some surface-level knowledge of the forums that you intend on volunteering for. While there is no minimum report requirement to apply as a Forum Assistant, regularly reporting misplaced threads and other violations in forums you visit is an excellent way of showcasing your knowledge of the rules. Please note that as Forum Assistants move misplaced threads and there are no misplaced threads in the Chatterbox forum, we do not require FAs for this forum, and applications for this forum will not be accepted.
How to apply!

If you think you're interested in being a Forum Assistant, please be aware that there are a few criteria that you will need to meet first:

    1. You must be 18 or over. If your application is accepted, you will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

    2. Please only apply one time on one account. Making multiple applications and/or using multiple accounts hinders the process and is unfair to other applicants.

    3. We will review the information you provide us. Please make sure this information is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge.

    4. Your account must be at least six months old. We will be reviewing your account standing on Gaia Online as well as your posting and reporting habits. We are looking for members who are active and in good standing. Members with serious Terms of Service violations or recent warnings or bans may not be eligible for the role. Serious violations include hacking, scamming, botting, and posting or requesting highly explicit content.

    5. If your application is rejected, please do not reapply for three months starting from the date that you are denied. Any applications filed during this time will be ignored until this time has passed. Should you be rejected, you will be provided feedback on the reason for this rejection, be sure to work on any areas of concern should you wish to re-apply. If you have questions about a rejection, feel free to contact any member of the Moderation Team for assistance.

If you meet the criteria listed above, and feel you could be a great member of the Forum Assistant team, then please go to the following form to apply!

Never enter your Gaia password into sites off Gaia, Gaia staff do not require your password for any reason and this linked form will not request your password. You can check you are logging into the correct site by always visiting https://www.gaiaonline.com/ before attempting to log in.

Note:
We will only be taking a limited number of Forum Assistant applications for each acceptance round. This means that sometimes people that contact us expressing interest in an FA position may have to wait until a future round of acceptance to be contacted. Whether your application is accepted or denied, we will notify you. We ask for your patience if you have submitted an application but have not heard back from us yet. We will consider applications in order in which they are sent and we will respond to you as soon as possible.
