Welcome to the first Aura Academy official Roleplay

This roleplay takes place during the first term of Aura Academy's existence - it has just been opened as a training place for the talented dreamers of Prometheus city. Founded by a mysterious man with an even more mysterious past, it is run by a staff that each seem to have their own histories and their own secrets. The students of Aura Academy must learn their places in their new home, while learning to work together and gradually discover what their true purpose might be.

The information needed to join this roleplay may all be found in other places - this thread is for the roleplay only. On completion of this, the first term, all participants and graduates will receive an Aura Academy - First Term badge.

User ImageA tall, slender figure stood by a window. He looked out over the city meditatively, watching the clouds. His face was solemn and a little sad as he watched a mighty steel-gray tower that pointed like an accusing finger at the washed, pale sun. A match flared in the shadow as the man lit a cigar. Inhaling deeply as the tip of the cigar glowed cherry-red, the man sighed, a long stream of smoke curling from his mouth and nose. "So many years...and now I have returned. But will all my efforts...be enough?" he whispered to himself.

A door slamming out in the corridor brought him back to the moment. A hubbub of students crowding in, exclaiming over the entry hall, wrangling their luggage, and greeting each other shyly or belligerently filled the man's ears. A slow smile spread across his face as he strode across the velvet-soft red carpet and flung open his door. Standing outlined in the rich lamplight, the man grinned and spread his arms wide.

"Welcome, students! Welcome - to Aura Academy!"

The butterfly counts not months but moments,

Everything had been so unbelievably quiet that morning, it wasn't a wonder that Carlisle D'Monde had nodded of at his desk. He slept awkwardly hunched over a book, one arm lazily cast out beneath the novel. The leather bound rimming dug uncomfortably into his cheek, causing his glasses to be slightly a kilter. A small snore escaped the man every moment or so, showing he wasn't only sleeping, he was well into it.

The growing sounds of voices startled him awake, as he shot up to a sitting position mid-snore, his cheek numb and his glasses falling back into place. He seemed to scrutinize the boisterous noises for a moment, until a realization struck him much like the sudden pain in his now reddened, sore cheek had. He hastily reached for the gold chain at his side, giving it a swift tug, and pulling his pocket watch into his palm. He clicked it open with his thumb and adjusted his glasses on the thin bridge of his nose, his eyes narrowing behind the glass. Upon seeing the time, his eyebrows shot to his hairline in surprise. "Oh, bother." he said to himself, rising to his feet and making haste to straiten his clothing, to look moderately presentable, aside from the very evident red line on his cheek from the edge of his book, of which he was completely unaware of.

He was one among hundreds, an dark-skinned oddity in a sea of white. Alu shuffled through ocean of students, holding his only remaining worldly possessions tight against him. There was very little that he had left of his old life, next to nothing in fact, save for the clothes on his back, the ceremonial robes in a simple, leather bag, and his staff. They were all he had to remind him of the Owankanta, of the people he left behind, the people he swore to avenge.

People surrounded him on all sides, thumping into him unintentionally as they passed. He let out an exacerbated sigh and set his bag at his feet, bringing a hand through the thin strip of dark hair. He needed a trim (though he figured that most of the people around him would disagree). A week's flight from Incul Autio to Prometheus had cost him the little money he was able to scrounge during his brief stay in the desert city, and unfortunately maintaining his look wasn't something that he had the luxury of holding high in his priorities.

Alu looked around at the mass of bodies and felt he could safely say he never felt more out of place than he did now. Whiteskins surrounded him, strangers from a world he did not understand and wasn't sure he ever would. Still, even stuck within this throng of strangers, he knew that it must be much the same for them. He was of another world, deep down he knew, no matter how desperately wanted...NEEDED to attend the academy, that he would have to adjust to living among them and learn their ways.

The soft creak of freshly oiled iron chimed out before him and the gate started to open. Alu leaned down, grabbed his bag and entered the academy as a man who fit the description of the one called Le'Minz welcomed them literally with open arms.

Pausing for a moment, Sylvir glared at the massive academy and was reminded slightly of the temple of his homeland. He placed his mace in the leather holster at his side and held his shield close as he reminisced before releasing the thought and began to approach the wide-open doors. He glanced at the man of the rumors, Belfiar Le'Minz, and nodded slightly to him. Knowing Le'Minz wasn't even looking he considered a more personal introduction might be more appropriate.
From outside to in he passes students, cracking a slight smirk as he overhears their complaints of the sudden chill as he walks by. It occurred to him that he may be imposing an inconvenience upon them and distanced himself from the crowds in an attempt to be courteous. He then began contemplating how so many people here must have interesting reasons for choosing this place as he walked and observed the building.
He was admiring a large statue of a lion as something caught his eye, a student, one who had the look of a warrior to him and bearing strange tattoos over his dark skin. This person seemed to appear as much out of place and curious in this place as he.
Noticing the dark-skin's ears perk to attention as his heavy footsteps approached, Sylvir knew this was no typical citizen. Smirking, he stands at attention and looks directly at this strange new person and announces, "Hail! My name is Sylvir Fenrir, knight of the Hand of Angellus and protector of the Isslekt people. Pleased to meet you, small one."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. She was never late nor early, always on time to the exact minute. Prompt; it was what she was known for. Strolling down the hall she flicked her wrist at the double doors leading down towards the entrance to the courtyard. The doors gladly opened for her and she flew down the hallway. She was the magic professor, more education in the realm of the mysterious than most people. This made her a strict and hard teacher; magic had to be precious and exact. Her straight blonde hair was up in a tight bun and she always wore a skirt and collared shirt. It gave people the impression she was a hard a** and no one would toy with her. A few more steps and she would be at the main entrance of the Academy. Pausing she tugged at her shirt to straighten it and glided her heads of her hair to attack every loose hair into place. The chatter of the new students could be heard, it made her nervous. Staring at the door she took a deep breath and opened it without her magic. Stepping out she saw Le’Minz standing out in the courtyard greeting the students at the gates opened. She was right on time. Quickly she moved down the steps and headed towards Le’Minz. Giving a quick smile to him she stood a few feet away on his right side, greeting the students as he did. It would be a wonderful term; the year however, would have to play itself out.

Alu walked into the open courtyard of the academy. He watched another join Le'Minz by the entrance to the main building and greet them, impressed when he realized that this young woman who looked no older than he did was actually one of the professors. She was pretty too, with that exotic golden hair and those pointed...ears?

Koahu? I didn't think the Koahu actually-

His thoughts were interrupted by a booming call from behind him. "Hail!" the masculine voice said, "My name is Silver Fenrir, knight of the Hand of Angellus and protector of the Isslekt people. Pleased to meet you, small one."

As the stranger announced himself, he felt a chill grip on his shoulder. Immediately he turned face and grabbed his staff, letting his bag drop to the ground. He held the staff tight and was about to swing when, in mid turn, he caught sight of the academy emblem around the stranger's neck.

Alu let out a relieved sigh and lowered his staff. "Adlu kaa...you are student. Your hand's cold, startle me." He looked up at the tall stranger, Sylvir. At first, he wasn't sure what he should do. He was a stranger in this culture, but then a realization came to him. So far, none of the people had openly come to him. Perhaps this...Sylvir was from another land? Protector of the Isslekt people...perhaps a leader like I once was?

Looking over the gray-eyed youth's features, Alu remembered he didn't return introduction. "Oh...I'm sorry. I don't mean rudeness," he said. With a slow nod of his head, he continued. "Noi-kwa, Sylvir Fenrir, knight of the Hand of Angelus and protector of the Isslekt people. Alu Kahuek of Owan..."

Alu paused. No...I'm not of the Owankanta anymore, I have no right to say otherwise. "...of Inculta."

The butterfly counts not months but moments,

Professor D'Monde pressed a palm flat to one of the impressive double doors at the end of the hallway, pushing it open only enough to wedge his body through. Surely on first glance, any student who laid eyes on the man, could tell he was the goof. Carlisle placed his hands behind his back, his body coming to rest in line beside Le'Minz obediently. He wore his usual care free smile, his eyes happy and welcoming behind his glasses. "My, so many peculiar faces." He murmured, opening his eyes to scan over the crowd. The opening seemed to have been a complete success so far - aside from Carlisle being late, but he was always late for just about everything, even though his life wasn't even that busy.

Arms crossed and eyes aimed at the ground, Geoff let out an irate sigh. He wanted a cigar, wanted a shower, and above all else, didn't want to be in this stupid acceptance ceremony. Dammit, what a pain...at least the students look a bit interesting...

He was able to get a close view of them too. Since he decided to sleep in his airship the night before, he was now forced to shuffle through the crowd of potential world culture and geography failures to get to the podium. Belfiar was already present, of course, as was Serenus. He looked up just in time to see Carlisle weasel his skinny butt out of the doors leading into the primary building. At least he wasn't the only late one, though he was sure Serenus would have some stupid rant to put forward to him for being late again, as she always did when the professors weren't punctual. Wizards and their damn obsession with punctuality...I'm a pilot not some finger-twiddling sorcerer! What does it matter if I'm a little late...

After he made his way through the crowd, he climbed up the steps to the podium. He moved to his place left of Belfiar, leaving a gap where Carlisle was supposed to be standing. Uncrossing his arms, he ran his hands across his wrinkled shirt and vest in a vain effort to smooth out the vestments, but stopped once an all-to-pleasant odor reached his nose. Taking a glance over at Belfiar, a pleased smirk worked its way across his lips.

As Carlisle moved into place, Geoff cut around in front of him and stopped next to Belfiar. His left hand shot out in front of the headmaster's face like lightning, and soon Geoff had the cigar in his own mouth.

"Ya know, Bel, these things'll kill ya." He took a long, satisfied drag of the fancy cigar as he moved back to his spot next to Carlisle. "But my god, if these things aren't great."

He smirked and let out a forceful huff, "Not to worry, Alu. My apologies for the cold, it is something I cannot control."
He paused and wondered what sort of language the person spoke before interrupting his thoughts to ask, "Inculta? I have not heard of that name. Is it far from Promethius? I hail from Steinise, an area a great distance North of here. A land of ice and majesty."

Alu nodded and picked his bag back up, slinging it over his shoulder. "We share something then. I am also from far away." He stepped back as a disheveled older man in a wrinkled white shirt and brown vest stepped between them.

"Inculta is South, a desert, my old home. It covers half the land that is separated by Yuweka, or South Sea as the people here say." Alu breathed in deep and closed his eyes, losing himself in deep thought. He remembered his people, his old home, and when he opened his eyes they glistened with pride and sorrow. Looking up at Sylvir, Alu decided that a year of silence was long enough.

"I am Alu Kahuek, child of Owankanta, the once largest tribe of Incultians. I was raised to be Incukatwa, a leader of my people." He looked to his staff, ran a finger across the wrench-shaped head that suspended its energem. "This is the mark of Incukatwa, only we can wield these. It was created for me by other Incukatwa to show my status. I would lead my people as a guide between the Tutaka, great spinning machines that make clouds to water. They were key to Owankanta's eight hundred year survival."

Alu moved to the wall near to the gate and sat, his staff rested against his shoulder. "I was also guide to Katwachaku, the spirit of machines. The machine spirits watched over Owankanta, aided us with the ability to remake Tutaka." Alu closed his eyes tight and slammed a fist into the wall. "I led my people for three years, then the Whiteskins came to us. They called themselves Omega Corporation, and they demanded of us stones like in my staff. They called them energems, but to my people, they are holy, a gateway to communicate with Katwachaku. We refused, and I ordered my people to fight. We lost, and most of my people were killed. Only three Incukatwa lived, including me. Because of me, my people were almost wiped out, so I went to Incul Autio, the city of the desert, and heard of the academy, of Le'Minz."

When Alu opened his eyes again, they glowed with rage. "Because of me, my people died. Omega killed them, so I shall kill Omega in turn." The earth around him rattled slightly and his grip upon the staff tightened. Pebbles hopped around slightly, and for a brief moment a flash of light appeared behind him, fading almost instantly as he regained his composure.

"I'm sorry," he said, looking back up to Sylvir. "I do not mean to burden you with my past."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A student caught Serenus’ gaze, he was staring. She gave him a stern look hoping to ward him off. There were so many interesting faces…it was the cloths that caught her attentions. Colorful and elegant for some; others were dingy and dull. The sun was hitting its marker to hide under the mountains. Out of the corner of her eyes she saw D’Monde slink his way into the crowd of professors. With a hard voice she said, “How wonderful for you to join us Carlisle.” Her face was straight and firm but one could tell she was pleased.
She knew most of the teachers disliked her; Le’Minz was maybe the only one who actually spoke to her. It didn’t bother much, she preferred to have her privacy and she could confined herself to her work and students rather than gallivanting with other professors at the bar.
Geoff waltz with his pride and glory. Serenus and him never seemed to meet eye to eye. “Good evening Geoff.” Her arms crossed, she was being stubborn and kept her eyes directed onto the flow of students. “Le’Minz do you think it is time we head into the building ourselves?” Most of the students were inside some trailed behind with heavy luggage or were conversing with new friends. Her eyebrows raised for a replied or some form of answer.

Nodding to the older man, "Thank you, sir." He then turned to Alu and moved over beside him, "Your past is no burden to me. I find all aspects of one's life necessary to know them better, be they positive or negative. I do feel sorrow for your loss, that is a pain beyond comparison." He closed his eyes to concentrate his mental focus to calm his anger at the loss of the Owankanta for a moment, exhaled and added, "I have heard of Omega Corp., rumors of their deeds always angered me, but none as much as this. The slaughter of an entire people is unforgivable, they must indeed be punished." His voice went from stern to calm as he sympathized, "But do not burden yourself with the loss of your people as your fault. You did what you felt necessary to protect that which is important to you, quite admirable. We both possess that warrior's spirit, surrender is not an option." He stopped to notice frost beginning to gather on the wall next to him and backed away from it, sighing. He positioned himself a few feet away from anything or anyone around him and began to speak again, "I am curious, though. You are a skilled warrior from what I can tell, but what manner of power is that you displayed just now? It seemed to flare with your emotional state, much like mine."

OOC: I think a lot of people are gonna butt heads with Geoff heheh. Also, to save space, I'm gonna post responses for both Alu and Geoff in this same post (and may do so in the future as well).

Alu:

Alu stood and once again slung his bag over his shoulder as the students headed into the primary building. "I do not know what the power is," he said. "I have felt it since I was trained as Inculkatwa. All Inculkatwa have a power granted by the earth and machine spirits. It was mostly mastered after rigorous years training and commune with the spirits. I have yet to master, and that is another reason I come here. I hear of people with such power coming here, of Le'Minz teaching them. That is what I hope for." He watched the students flood into the building. "I think we need to get inside."

Geoff:

Geoff glanced over at Serenus as she "welcomed" him, giving her a snide laugh and smile.

He took another drag from the cigar. "Glad to see you too, finger-twiddler," he said. "And talking to me no less! Guess I was wrong when I assumed you thought me to immature for even casual conversation."

He wasn't surprised that she didn't reply, it was the story of his life. Well, with her it was at least. Sometimes he swore that the only reason Belfiar made him come to these kinds of things were because he liked seeing Geoff and Serenus butt heads, some kind of punishment for Geoff always taking his cigars.

"Le'Minz do you think it is time we head into the building ourselves?" she finally said.

"Finally, the finger-twiddler says something I can agree with," Geoff said, a snicker upon his face. "God knows I need a shower and hey, who knows, maybe I can snag some of that Elven wine of yours while I'm at it, Serra? And by that I mean the drink, not the constant complainin' you so enjoy throwing my way."

The low roar of the ceremony had alerted the pale haired man from his stride in the maze of hallways. His amber orbs darted about his surroundings then to his pocket watch, which belonged to his honorable grandfather. A ornate rapier hung from his waist it wagged and taped his thigh with every step he took forward.
He was running late due to another coughing fit he suffered from. He had hoped he was not causing an upset among the other professor nor would he wish to interrupt the ceremony by providing a bad example to the new youths.
Just thinking of causing all of his peers and students any unfortunate made him worry, then a discomforting cough shot from his lips, echoing the painful noise for what sounded like miles. He had to stop his pace and use the wall to hold himself up, wincing at every violent cough that he emitted.

The ill, attractive man was no other then one of the top professors and finest dueling instructor, Meyer Gales.
Meyer had suffered from a serious illness for most of his youth, yet it was just a minor case. Tries his best to hide this weakness from others around Aura Academy, with worries that their concern will make him even weaker than he actually was.

Once his fit had faded, the professor brushed loose wisps of his ivory locks from his face as he returned his attention to the hall. Taking a handkerchief from his vest's inner pocket, he wiped away the crimson fluid that slid down from his lip. and stained his palms. Gales sighed as he pocketed the cloth and hasten his steps down the corridor.
Finally reaching the door, Meyer took a moment to fix himself. His boots were polished and knickers tucked in them so neatly. His vest was buttoned and collared shirt was pressed with golden gear cufflinks holding his sleeve ends together nicely. Before opening the door, Meyer removed an ornament that was attached to his blade's sheath. It was a oval locket, a sparrow above the name: Gales etched on it. It's contents were two pictures, one of his grandfather that taught him many things he was to each the next generation of young minds and the other of his mother, the woman he cherished and hoped the best of her adventures.
He took a deep breath in and flicked the locket close,
"Well, It's time to press on..."
Gales opened the door , instantly turning to his spot next to the versatile Carlisle Beau D'Monde and graceful, arcane Serenus Vindicta. He took notice of the rebellious Geoffrey Michaels action, having some amusement in the matter.
The duelist chuckled to his comment, but then gave a apologetic nod to Serenus for coming in last, he knew she didn't care for tardiness.
He had felt comfortable around his peers now that he was among them, but the reason he felt at ease was mostly due to standing with his admired head master, Belfiar Le'Minz.
Meyer took a good scan of the sea of students, smiling softly to himself than at his fellow professors. He knew this was going to be some first term with the aura he picked up from the students. He figured he was going to see some excitement around the campus, whether in his dueling or engineering classes or just in the halls. Gale feel the staff of Aura Academy was up to a new experience.
