I always assumed they were both female, but I've seen people saying they are gender-neutral... which I think is more interesting. But I still think of them as female anyway. razz

I see the two of them as gender neutral because it's up to the player's interpretation.

I guess... that haircut just registers as "little girl" to me though, probably because I had the exact same one as a kid. Of course I don't mind if other people think of them as male/neutral, that's obviously valid! It just never occurred to me while playing. I'm curious to see if anyone assumed the opposite.

/female despite avi, obv

When I saw a playthrough for the first time, Frisk striked me as a boy due to their clothing lol

And gotta love the classic bowl cut LMAO I know a guy who has it still...

I feel like Chara/Frisk are gender neutral, but I guess it's up to the person playing....although you do find a lot of items that lead me to believe female thinking about it in hindsight...like you find the ballet tutu and shoe, you find the ribbon, but the more I think about it, it could be either way cause you also get the Tough Glove and Mandanna (Manly Bandanna) so I guess it only matters that Frisk/Chara is the gender you think they are/want them to be as long as it makes you happy.

I agree with it being gender-neutral. Throughout the entire game, they call you human, they, their, ect. It never uses pronouns that identify any sort of gender.

I know that they were both supposed to be gender neutral, but I imagine them both being girls.

I've heard that those are actually items left by the other human souls captured by Asgore, and that the areas are all thematically tied to their personalities.

So the tutu, ribbon, mandana etc. maybe all come from different people.

I feel it's ultimately up to the player to decide since Frisk, and by some extension, Chara, is the player's "avatar". I prefer to think of them as gender-neutral, myself.

I think Chara is a female, but Frisk is the player's choice.

Since the game does not explain e gender of neither Frisk or Chara, they are gender neutral because of the use of words when talking about or to them. Mainly the words "they" or "human." But this gives the player the freedom to interpret what gender they could be.

They are suppose to be whatever you want them to be so I've always associated the two as male.

Which judging by what everyone else is saying... I may be the odd man out.

I've always seen them both as girls tbh. c: And honestly, I don't know which pronouns to use anymore so I go with the crowd and use 'they/them' pronouns. But it's kind of scary how fans bash other fans when they use "he" or "she" pronouns and it's so uncalled for imo. emotion_facepalm

Gender neutral, for sure.

Though Asriel refers to Chara as his brother at one point, so if they did have a defined gender, Chara'd more likely be male than female
