A wispy substance floats within this vial - flowing like smoke but with an almost solid looking core. While from far away it doesn't look like anything in particular, when you near it you are able to see brief flashes of light, color and even detect the barest hints of sound. Drawing the bottle close to your eye and looking into the wisps, you are able to see and hear the past imaginings of many people within this essence. After awhile, you feel your own mind start to slip into a daydream, zoning out to the mix of colors, sounds and shapes whirling lazily around inside the essence's core. As that happens, the essence absorbs and adds your own idle thoughts to its collection, later rousing you from your drifting state and making you wonder for a few moments where you are and what you were supposed to be doing.
A mushroom (or toadstool) is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground on soil or on its food source. The word "mushroom" is most often applied to those fungi (Basidiomycota, Agaricomycetes) that have a stem (stipe), a cap (pileus), and gills (lamellae, sing. lamella) on the underside of the cap. These gills produce microscopic spores that help the fungus spread across the ground or its occupant surface.
Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, is a mushroom and psychoactive basidiomycete fungus, one of many in the genus Amanita. Amanita muscaria poisoning has occurred in young children and in people who ingested the mushrooms for a hallucinogenic experience.
Fly agarics are known for the unpredictability of their effects. Depending on habitat and the amount ingested per body weight, effects can range from nausea and twitching to drowsiness, cholinergic crisis-like effects (low blood pressure, sweating and salivation), auditory and visual distortions, mood changes, euphoria, relaxation, ataxia, and loss of equilibrium.
In cases of serious poisoning the mushroom causes delirium, somewhat similar in effect to anticholinergic poisoning (such as that caused by Datura stramonium), characterised by bouts of marked agitation with confusion, hallucinations, and irritability followed by periods of central nervous system depression. Seizures and coma may also occur in severe poisonings. Symptoms typically appear after around 30 to 90 minutes and peak within three hours, but certain effects can last for several days. In the majority of cases recovery is complete within 12 to 24 hours. The effect is highly variable between individuals, with similar doses potentially causing quite different reactions. Some people suffering intoxication have exhibited headaches up to ten hours afterwards. Retrograde amnesia and somnolence can result following recovery.
The wide range of psychedelic effects can be variously described as depressant, sedative-hypnotic, dissociative, and deliriant; paradoxical effects may occur. Perceptual phenomena such as macropsia and micropsia may occur, which may have been the inspiration for the effect of mushroom-consumption in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Additionally, A. muscaria cannot be commercially cultivated, due to its mycorrhizal relationship with the roots of pine trees.

Ryder is the type that will see a situation and respond to it in the best way he can at that time. He always tries to be a good person, but in the end he knows you can't please everyone. He's very calm, quiet, and level-headed, always thinking before he speaks. He likes to think of himself as a problem solver, for if there's an issue, he'll think about the different potential outcomes before taking any one course of action; but this may be more due to his lack of focus than anything else.
Ryder oftentimes can be found in a daze, daydreaming or lost in his own thoughts; his mind is constantly racing. Others have to "bring him back to earth" quite often in that regard, more so than the average person. He's very imaginative, constantly playing pretend. One of his favorite pastimes is world building and character creation using his imagination, something that he tends to get lost in quite often. Fantasy is definitely his favorite genre and he aspires to be a writer, screen writer, and film maker one day. He oftentimes imagines full length movie scenes and uses his powers to show off his imagination and creations to others.
Reading and learning is an absolute must with Ryder. He can oftentimes be found reading fiction novels and increasing his knowledge base of different herbs and things of that nature (which helps Reuben out quite a bit in a pinch). Ryder would rather be inside reading or creating fiction than outside with Reuben (unless they're going to the forest after a rainy day, in which case he can find some scrumptious damp, dead tree).
Ryder is an introvert and enjoys himself that way. People may see this as off-putting, but he doesn't care. They will either accept him or not, and that's none of his concern. He's much more of an observer than a "take charge" type. He likes to view other people as though they were characters in a story he's making up and oftentimes will place likenesses of them in his own fantastical fictions if he finds them fascinating enough.
Ryder is kind, but only to those who are kind to him and those he loves. He believes trust is gained through experience with a person. He's read enough books to know you can't trust everyone that walks into your life. Once he knows he can trust you, he's an open book and actually quite outgoing and talkative; albeit a bit strange and all over the place in his conversations, dashing from one subject to another without even thinking.
Over all, Ryder will end up treating you however you treat him, regardless of consequence.
Imaginings: Ryder's favorite meal is a good, hearty imagination. He has to feed actively, as he sees many imaginings a day. Well formulated ideas are oftentimes the best meals for him. If he knows the victim well enough, he'll only try and feed off of their mundane ideas (which aren't as tasty); for when it comes to feeding, it causes the victim to forget what they were thinking about and makes them feel dazed and confused a moment when they come back to reality, wondering where they are and what they were supposed to be doing.
Rotten Matter: Ryder likes to feast on rotting plant matter or old food, as the fungus in him craves it now and again. The nicest of all these delicacies for him is, by far, rotting wet tree. At least for the Rothmore household, food will ever go to waste.
Daze:Passive - Sometimes spending too much time with Ryder, especially doing monotonous work, will cause a person to daydream more often than they typically would. Once in a great while, people tend to zone out completely acting almost as if they are mesmerized and not present whatsoever. This is wonderful for when Ryder is hungry.
Imaginary Muse Lv.3:Active - Ryder can actively create imaginary friends - whom he calls "Muses" - who are visually and audibly there, yet have no physicality in the world. They have minds and personalities of their own and can hold conversations just as real people do. Though, they are like holograms and cannot interact with our world whatsoever. Ryder is the only one who can physically touch them, anyone else who tries will be shocked to see that they will go right through them. In the same light, these muses can only touch and interact physically with Ryder. Anyone else will not be affected.
Imaginary Summoning Lv.2:Active - Ryder can manifest "hologram-esque" horns, wings, weapons, armor/clothing, appendages, and more upon himself (and others with permission) which aren't there physically, but are great for photos and other visual representations for fun. Note that only Ryder is able to interact with these imaginings. All others will simply pass through them as if they aren't there.
Imagination Casting Lv.2:Active - Ryder can find and project the imaginings (dreams, daydreams, thoughts and memories) of himself and others -- beware of prolonged skin to skin contact however -- into crystals, mirrors, glass, water, etc. He can't control them whatsoever (unless they're his own imaginings of course), but he can make fantasy a more visual experience for others to enjoy. Once perfected, Ryder will be able to display these imaginings effortlessly, accurately, in high-definition, and with perfect sound quality.
Mushroom Manipulation Lv.2:Active - Ryder can create any type of mushroom and cause it to grow at a rapid pace, or stop growing completely. He can also stretch, form, and otherwise transform a normal mushroom into basically anything he can imagine...which is a lot.
Spore Cloud Lv.1:Active - Upon Ryder's skin are freckles. These freckles, when activated, release a type of smoke reminiscent of his essence which actually contains microscopic spores that, when enough are inhaled, can cause very vivid visual and auditory hallucinations, bringing their current imaginings -- potential fears, joys, memories, etc. -- into reality for a short time. In all aspects, they are "real" and those affected by the spores can see, hear, touch, taste and even smell their hallucinations. Only Ryder and those going through the hallucinations are witness to them. It's mainly only released when Ryder is feeling threatened, though this will be something he can learn to control over time.
Hallucinogenic Skin Lv. 2 - Ryder's skin secretes a poison, which can cause minor hallucinogenic effects (i.e.: visual and auditory distortions, sweating, salivation, low blood pressure, mood changes, euphoria, relaxation, ataxia, and loss of equilibrium) within moments upon contact. These effects vary from person to person, and are quite unpredictable. It mostly depends on the consumers habitat and the amount of time spent touching the skin. The effects don't always happen, but there is that possibility. Touching his skin for long periods of time will generally always result in some sort of effect. The higher the characters endurance stat, the less likely they are to be affected by this power.
Toadstool Wings - Large mushroom caps protrude from the toadstool's back and act as small wings. These wings are able to keep him afloat perfectly fine without tiring himself out.
Rainbow Freckles - These freckles are scattered across his nose and cheeks, down the sides of his neck, shoulders, upper arms, down the center of his back and on his chest. Ryder can will them to change colors and they aid him greatly in his biggest defense mechanism. They also tend to glow dimly (or brightly when more energy is being exerted) whenever Ryder is attempting to use his magic.
Visions of Delirium - Ryder can see hallucinations along with those having them.
Creativity ( 29 ) Being fashioned from imaginations, it's quite obvious that creativity should be Ryder's highest stat. Consistently thinking about characters, world building, and throwing his creative juices into everything he does truly makes for a pretty imaginative mushroom. Magic ( 27 ) Magic is, by far, one of Ryder's favorite things to practice. Crafting mushrooms, using his abilities to show off the imagination of himself and others, and constantly creating muses to help him along his journey. Intelligence ( 26 ) Ryder is quite intelligent, as his stat would suggest. Knowledge is his most prized possession and he cherishes all the books he can read. Humour ( 25 ) Over all, Ryder does have a pretty humorous side to him, but this shows more in the muses he creates rather than anything else. He, himself, isn't the funniest of the bunch; but his muses can definitely throw out a hilarious line or two. But technically Ryder is the one who crafted them, so, that counts, right? Endurance ( 24 ) Ryder's endurance is mediocre at best. There is no way he'd be flying for miles or able to survive long, intense workouts. He's somewhat of a wimp, given he's a bookworm and would prefer to stay inside away from all of that. Strength ( 23 ) Along with endurance, Ryder isn't the strongest of the bunch. Sure, he's able to carry about ten small books at once, but that's only from one room to another. Otherwise, he would most likely be considered quite wimpy in comparison to other raevan. Friendliness ( 22 ) Ryder can be quite friendly when he's gotten to know someone. But at first glance, he doesn't come off as a super friendly frei. He's standoffish, mainly because he'd prefer to be around his muses than friends. Charisma ( 18 ) Because of his standoffish behavior, he's not very charismatic whatsoever. Once he gets to know someone, he does have his strange quirks and things about him that can be viewed as potentially cute; but he's lost on any other 'charm' to make people like him. Reuben stands at an above average height of 5'11", and weighs about 170 pounds. His body is quite toned as he enjoys staying as healthy as possible. He has straggly, unkempt dirty blond hair and sea blue eyes which are oftentimes covered by black rimmed glasses. He will sometimes grow out his beard just enough to make him look a bit older, but as soon as he feels he looks a bit too rugged, he'll shave it clean and start again. Oftentimes he'll grow out a soul patch for fun and shave it when he's had enough. He wears t-shirts with jeans in the spring, shorts and tank tops throughout summer, light sweaters in autumn, and coats with scarves in the winter. He wears whatever speaks to him at the time. As far as accessories go, he'll always be wearing his basic earrings in whatever color matches his current outfit. Along with that, he'll wear scarves quite a bit, especially during fall, winter, and beginning of spring. He'll also be sporting one of his large watches on most days.
Reuben is a kind-hearted soul and finds positivity in most any situation. He's not afraid to speak his mind and always speaks the truth; regardless if it's hurtful or not. He's stubborn, yet willing to admit defeat when he is clearly proven wrong. He spends a lot of his free time in nature; whether that be in the woods or at the beach, he's always having a good time when he's outside. When he's not outdoors, he spends much of his solitary time reading the tarot or studying herbalism and creating herbal remedies.
Reuben tends to be the type of person who marches to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't care for the opinions or instructions of others and would rather figure things out on his own. Sure, if he has questions about something he'll ask and take their responses to heart; but unwarranted advice or opinions aren't readily accepted or appreciated. He is also a huge believer in karma and will take any chance he gets to be kind to another being in the hopes that it comes back around to him in the future.
Reuben Rothmore was born on July 25th to his parents, Peter and Rubi; and an older brother, Pete. They were all a very conservative bunch; going to church every Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. At a very young age, Reuben was instilled with all of these very conservative views which always seemed to conflict with the way he truly felt about something.
Growing up, Reuben always felt as though he was different from his family. He felt much more connected with nature in a spiritual way. While his brother was often found indoors playing video games, Reuben was outside enjoying the crisp, cool breeze and often spending time with the plants his mother grew in their back yard.
It wasn't until Reuben began going to grade school and beyond that he realized his "differences" were something that other people felt as well. It was during his teenage years that he realized that he wasn't only gay, but he didn't feel about God the way the rest of his family supposedly did.
When he was fifteen, he would do his own research at the local library. A friend he made at the library gave him his first tarot deck, an original Rider-Waite and the love for the tarot began. He took every opportunity he could to spend with the cards and it blossomed into more curiosities about other religions. It was through these existential studies that he realized he wanted to be free and finally live his life the way he wanted. He began taking formal courses in both tarot and herbalism, which he kept from his family. It was at this point he began to consider himself a mundane earth witch, which basically meant he didn't have any inherent magical abilities (like others in Gaia), but he was able to use his knowledge of tarot and herbalism to do mundane works in witchcraft.
It wasn't long before Reuben decided he wanted to be himself all the time. He decided to come out to his family when he was twenty-one, who then proceeded to kick him out, forcing him to move to Barton Town with his best friend, Calista Khova, a real witch. From there, he got a job at a local market and continued to study herbalism in the meantime.
Finally, after he had enough money, he bought himself a house just outside of Barton Town and opened his own alchemy shop out of his new home which he called "The Mystic Herb", selling custom infusions, spells, and even poppets to his clients. Another dealing in his business was that of readings for his clients; tarot, oracle, and rune readings. With all of this, he's been living fairly comfortable ever since.

Reuben bought himself a decently sized property just outside of Barton Town about half a decade ago. He's lived there alone with his small garden and growing business ever since. It's a decently sized three bedroom, two bathroom home with what the previous owners used as a "guest house" on the lot that Reuben has since transformed into the Mystic Herb. The previous owners had built a large gazebo out back and planted many flowers around it. When Reuben purchased the land, everything on it was very run down, but over the course of the last few years, he has really restored it and made it look like a totally new home. He loves home improvement and oftentimes takes it upon himself to decorate and rebuild his home to make it as beautiful as he can.
In 2020, with his ever growing business and family, he has decided to upgrade the home with an additional studio unit in the back where he had always wished to put a swimming pool. However, due to the fact that he wanted to continue growing and increasing his endeavors within the new decade, he decided to create the studio to rent out and make a passive income to supplement the income made at the Mystic Herb.
The Mystic Herb is Reuben's pride and joy. It started as a small herbal adventure, but boomed into a full blown business after he realized how many Gaians were in need of herbal remedies and metaphysical merchandise. He creates and sells potions, salves, infusions, poppets, and anything to do with herbal magic as well as beautiful stones, wands, tarot cards, incense and the like. Though he's only recently tried to branch out and sell more wares, he has kept his business afloat with his natural healing and herbal remedies as well as using the tarot, runes, and oracle cards to do readings for his higher paying clientele.

Evan Reed - Reuben's Boyfriend
Currently working as a bartender at the Silver Fox, Evan now makes enough money to support himself. Getting out of the grungy bar he worked at prior was one of the best decisions of his life. He's dated many woman in his day, but just recently came out as bisexual. Reuben is his first male relationship, but he feels as though it's the first real relationship he's been apart of. He has also moved into the Rothmore household to live with Reuben and Ryder. One of Evan's quirks is that he is constantly dying his hair a plethora of colors and is always so unpredictable when it comes to what's next. He can never sit still and decide on just one. A titanium gray or platinum blonde is his favorite to compliment his icy blue-gray eyes, even though his natural color is a dark dirty blonde.
Calista Khova - Sister (Reuben's Best Friend)
Working as a sales representative at a small pharmaceutical company stationed in Durem, Calista is a spitfire of a saleswoman when she needs to be. She's got that "take charge" attitude and a whole lot of gall to go with it. She tends to be the most dominating personality in the room in most circumstances. Whatever she is doing, she goes at it full force, no holding back. One of the most unique things about Calista is that she was gifted with the ability to perform magic at birth. In her free time, she practices illusion magic, which comes in quite handy at her work. Whether she needs to pacify some angry clients, make her steps quiet as she's walking through the office as to not be caught coming in late, or if she wants to literally disappear from work altogether with an invisibility spell, her illusion magic is her friend.
Renard | Foxfish Given to the pair at the Beach BBQ, Renard is a rambunctious little animal. He is Ryder's confidant, though, and is always listening to the frei tell his stories or watching him practice magic. After all, Reuben got a large fish tank and decked it out before placing it in Ryder's room so Renard would be comfortable, not that the foxfish had much choice.
Peter Rothmore - Reuben's Father, 56 A retired construction manager from Durem, Peter was never a super emotionally supportive father to his sons or wife. He was hurt at work whilst at a construction site when he was forty-three and took an early retirement and disability to be a "stay-at-home dad", as he put it. He and Reuben never really saw eye to eye on any one subject entirely. But, this was the man who kicked Reuben out of his home when he was only twenty-one. The two have not had contact since and Reuben would prefer to keep it that way.
Rubi Rothmore - Reuben's Mother, 55 Working as a customer service representative at a small boutique in Durem part time, Rubi has always been a strange woman. She tends to be very fake with people, but they wouldn't know it unless they stuck around and truly got to know her. Behind closed doors, she's a greedy, malicious, needy woman who cares for nobody but herself (as Reuben would explain). But to those in the audience, she seems like such a sweet, kind, loving woman. It's all a show, but very few know it. Reuben cut ties with her as well when she sided with his father during the whole debacle.
Pete Rothmore - Reuben's Brother, 36 Working as a butcher full time in Durem, Pete was never a "good" big brother by any means. As the two grew up, Pete would bully Reuben, tease him, and not leave him alone whatsoever. Their mother justified it as "boys will be boys" and their father wouldn't deal with it, saying, "Grow some balls, boy." Reuben grew up resenting his older brother quite a bit for past deeds, not ever truly moving past all of the hurt and pain he caused him. The final straw was when Reuben came out as gay. All Pete could do was side with their family, thinking that Reuben was a "disgusting piece of s**t", and that the family was better off without him. Needless to say, the two haven't spoken since, though at the time Pete had a fiancé, Rebecca, and Reuben was not invited to the wedding.

Ryder's muses are oftentimes manifestations of the imaginings stolen by his essence in order to explain worldly concepts. Each muse has their own twist on the world and most often manifest themselves during times when Ryder needs them most.
Alice was Ryder's very first imaginary friend. Upon entering the room where Ryder was being held prior to going home, Alice was sitting with Ryder reading "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Though, Alice isn't like the Alice from the book, she looks far different. Because Ryder's powers were brand new, he envisioned her as a very tall, lanky girl (about 6'5" tall), most of which is her lower body. Her arms are extremely long and the tips of her fingers reach her knees when standing straight up. She has bright blue eyes and sandy blonde hair that reaches her knees as well. Her face always seems a bit off as her eyes are extremely far apart and her nose is rather small with her mouth being quite wide. She's quite a curious girl, asking questions about anything and everything. She wears puffy, overdramatic dresses like the ones seen in sketches (only kind of blown out of proportion) and a crown of white and red roses atop her head. Her post color is #A3C6C9.
Formed in order to truly save his life, Bastian is Ryder's purest magic incarnate. Crafted specifically to help him overcome his biggest fears, Bastian helps Ryder keep in control and helps him realize his full potential. He's not only a protector, but guardian, companion, and sage to Ryder and the rest of his muses. Bastian is the strong, silent type; speaking only when absolutely necessary and offering aid to Ryder or whoever else he wishes to speak to through mental and emotional connections. With a large, billowing flame-like head reminiscent of Ryder's original essence, Bastian holds a special, one of a kind power. He can transform himself from a large elemental-esque protection creature into a small, fawn-like companion capable of sitting on his creator's shoulder. This allows him versatility and at a moments notice can be there to help scare away any and all predators in Ryder's way. His post color is #A5703B.
The darker half of Ryder's magic incarnate is Erryd, his Shadow Self. Shadow selves have always been thought of to be one's darker, meaner, and nastier side. In Ryder's case, his shadow self is very much that definition. Sadly enough for Ryder, Erryd uses everything in his arsenal against the toadstool. Everything from little mess ups, to larger troubles, Erryd is there to point out every mistake and try to rally Ryder against anyone and everyone any chance he gets. Ryder can't really control his darker self from arising and putting him down much like he can his other muses. Constantly saying things like, "you're not good enough," and, "you'll never get this," Ryder's confidence and self esteem is consistently shot down by Erryd, who first arose in the pits of his nightmares as Ryder began to doubt his abilities. Erryd, being Ryder's darker half, always looks exactly like him, with two key differences: Firstly, Erryd is black, white and gray in between. There is nothing about Erryd that is colorful, except his "magic", which is a dark blood red. And secondly, Erryd has no rune, as his essence stems from Ryder's mind, not his rune. Being dark and macabre is his best look and he doesn't need a rune to fulfill his duty in life, or so he thinks. UPDATE: As of July 2019, Erryd has been locked away forever thanks to Ryder and his comrades.
