Resources

Post your recommended books, magazines, and website lists here. Give a brief description of it and any thoughts. Keep it food related.

My books:

*Field Guide to Herbs & Spices, Aliza Green- A cute little book. Its very useful in the kitchen. Lots of info on herbs and how they are used in food. Some recipes too!

*UltraMetabolism, Mark Hyman M.D.- I am still reading this book. I think it is great. For someone like me who contantly needs reminders about eating well, this is perfect. A lot of the stuff in this book I remember being tought in school. This book shows you how to eat the food that "talks" to your genes to speed up you metabolism.

*Ayurvedic Cooking for self-healing, Usha Lad & Dr. Vasant Lad-More then 100 recipes of ayurvedic cuisine. Teaches you how to maintian proper health, digestion, and constitution. Very good book.

*Celtic Folklore Cooking, Joanne Asala- Not Veg*n but its still good. I am so glad I have this book in my collection. It includes folklore, poems, holidays, and recipes.

*Fresh From the Vegetarian Slow Cooker, Robin Robertson- 200 wonderful recipes. I love this book! Only no illustrations.

Web:

*What's Cooking America- I havn't explored the site much yet but it did help me on my edible flowers list.

"Moosewood Restaurant Low-Fat Favourites" - Not entirely vegan and vegetarian, but has plenty of great vegan vand vegetarian reciepes, including one of my favourites: Vegan Rice Pudding. Every reciepe also has a nutrition facts table (calories, etc.).

I recently bought
"Vegetarian Basics"
So far I have found it to be a really good
cookbook, plus it tells you how to prepare
vegetables in different ways and alternatives to use
if you are vegan.
My personal favourite part of it though is how it lists
some vegetables that are high in Vitamins, and minerals that
vegetarians/vegans are usually low in.

VegNews is the greatest magazine on earth.

Vegetarian Times is pretty good too.

Vegan Lunch Box
is a great book for recipes.

vegweb.com is good for recipies.

As for cookbooks, 'Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World' is amazing!

Now (thanks to my cookbook), even my friends who think 'vegan food is gross' willingly admit that my cupcakes kick a**, and taste better than most 'normal' cupcakes. whee

I second vegweb.com

Try the "Outrageously Easy Big Bread" recipe. My husband begs me to make more.

Every recipe I've tried on cok.net's site is awesome. Especially the Chocolate Chip Cookies, the Cranberry Pumpkin Bread, and the Gravy.

And finally, my favorite cookbook is Sinfully Vegan. All desserts, and it includes several sugar-free and gluten-free recipes too.

Hmmm, I'm getting hungry... 3nodding
