Courtyard (North)

Zuno fluttered down to the ground. He stretched his wings to the farthest they could before folding them in, all the feathers neatly in place. He sat under a near-by tree and began to practice healing spells on flowers that he would break. His hands glowed a soft white aurora as the flower kept coming back together and meanding itself before bursting into bloom.

Zuno occasionally looked at the people chatting but paid no attention to them. It's rude to eavesdrop when I don't even know them. he thought as he went back to his magic as he pulled out his book, Healing and other White magic.

"Well see um...remember the time at the library when I jumped out the window and then kinda landed on you?"

Oh great Terry, great way to start off this conversation....

"No, no that's a bad place to start." Terry shakes his head and starts over. "We've only known each other for a little while Hiko, but I think we're good friends already. Right?

"I mean, on the commune I didn't really grow up around kids. Mostly just adults. Then I went to public middle school and that was fun but...

"Anyway, you and El and Alex and Tek and everyone have been really great here, and I really like it here. I'm comfortable and it feels more like home than anything else. So there's something I want to tell you, and it might kinda change our relationship but I don't want it to. Promise me that what ever happens we're still gonna be friends, OK? 'Cause I'd really hate for anything I might happen to ruin that."  

[Misao]

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Hikaru's mind screamed at her as she tried to maintain her composure after hearing something like that come out of Terry's mouth. She was just barely able to keep her mouth from screaming the same thing, instead choosing to blush wildly and nearly fall into the fountain in surprise. Her heart seemed like it was beating a million miles a second - a lot faster than it ever had after a good run, and she could run a lot harder and faster than almost anyone else alive.

You were right! You were right! she thought to herself, totally unable to keep from smiling widely. I can't believe it! What do I say!

"Um... yeah!" she said, nervously laughing herself by this point. "Of course we'll always be friends!"

Thump thump thump went her heart.

"Hiko I..."

BLRRRRRRRING! BLRRRRRRRRING! BLRRRRRRRING!

Terry's phone rang, interupting them. Terry sighed, stood up and flipped open his cell. He had walked a brief distance away from the fountain, but even from five or six feet away, Terry's father's voice came across loud and clear to those around. It sounded as if the dirty-old hippy were standing right next to everyone in the courtyard.

"HELLLLLLOOOOOOO MY SON! Have you talked with your loving friends yet? Your psychiatrist called. She wants you to stop by later in the week and report on your progress."

Terry groaned and fumbled with the volume on his phone, but even at the lowest setting his father's voice came across like it was on speaker-phone.

"Also my boy! You forgot your underware! I left it in the bag next to your duffle, clean and pressed especially fresh for you my son! Oh, how could you forget something as important as--"

"DAD!" Terry yelled.

"Yes the one and only spawn of my loins?"

"Can you just drop off the..." Terry looked around, hunched his shoulders, and spoke quietly into the phone. "Can you just drop it off tomorrow? I'm kind of in the middle of something."

"OF COURSE MY BOY! Good bye, farewell, and--"

Terry hung up the phone and shoved it into his pocket.

"Sorry," He said to Hiko. "Where were we?"  

[Misao]

Hikaru nearly fell over into the fountain again as Terry's phone rang, her heart skipping several beats. She had to pound on her chest several times to make sure it hadn't stopped, laughing and playing it off as just really enjoying the fresh night air.

"Mmm... summer nights sure are invigorating!" she said, hoping Terry wouldn't notice her odd behavior. sweatdrop

"So, yeah, um... you were about to tell me something, right?" She quietly inched a little closer to him.  

[soless]

"Oh, right..." Terry coughed a few times. "Um, I wanted to tell you...uh...to let you know that..."

Terry fiddled with the strap on his duffle.

"Would you mind if I. Um that is to say would it be ok if..."

Say it...Say. It.

Several scenes flashed through Terry's head, some happy, but most reminiscent of last years spring dance--George on the floor bleeding. Everyone screaming. Fur and drool ruining his dress clothes.

"There's a lot I need to talk to you about Hiko, a lot of things I need to tell you, well, ok only two really. I'm kinda scared to say them though, so can you help me out? I'm gonna tell you one now, and then one later, and I need you to force me to tell you later 'cause I don't think I'm gonna be able to do it on my own."

Terry paused for a brief moment and then blurted it out before he could second guess himself.

"Hikaru, I'm a lycanthrope."  

[Misao]

As Terry stumbled over his words, Hikaru's hopes climbed higher and higher. It felt like her heart was about to burst with the anticipation leading up to it. She fidgeted around in place, bouncing up and down a little as she waited for him to finally get to the point.

"Terry, that's great!" she called out almost automatically after he finally came out and told her what he'd been waiting to say, practically jumping out of her seat and hugging him. It took her brain a few seconds to register that it wasn't what she was expecting to hear, however. And then it took a few more seconds for it to figure out what it was he'd actually said.

The practical result of this was Hikaru hugging Terry tightly for about ten seconds, apparently as a result of being told of his lycanthropy. As soon as she finally realized how weird this must have seemed to him, Hikaru quickly let go, now stumbling over her own words as she tried to cover up her actions.

"Er, um, I mean... that's really cool!" she said, waving her arms around in mock enthusiasm, hoping to distract Terry. "So you can, like, turn into a wolfman and stuff like that, right?"

Terry was a bit surprised with Hiko's over enthusiasm. I guess she really likes dogs. He thought to himself.

"Yeah, sometimes. It's not linked with the moon or anything like that...though a full moon makes it easier. It's usually when my emotions go into over drive and stuff like that." Terry drops his voice a little. "You might have noticed the ears and tail. Heh." He scratches the back of his head.

"Anyway, I'll tell you all about it tomorrow, k? I gotta get this stuff put away." He pats his duffle bag. "Then maybe we can track down Tekishe and the others? Play some soccer on the field? It is summer. We should be hanging out more." He winks at her in the star light as he stands up and hefts his bag over his shoulder.

Zuno stood up and streched his wings, putting his book down on the ground. He grabbed his bag and all of his personal books and journals poured out onto the ground.

"Great." he said as he bent down to grab his book with spells. He frantically searched for the summoning chapter while his books and journals turned with the wind.

 

[Misao]

"That's pretty cool!" she said, smiling as she began to recover from her embarrassing and unbridled show of emotion. Thankfully, Terry seemed to take her explanation in stride - at the very least, he wasn't asking any awkward questions about it.

"Yeah, we'll definitely catch up soon!" She nodded, grinning back at Terry. "We still have to have that soccer match, after all. I'm totally gonna kick your butt!" Pumping her first in the air, she laughed playfully, her usual confident smile right back where it always was.

"'Night, Terry! See you tomorrow!" she called out after him, blushing just a bit as he winked at her. After he left, she went back to her previous position, lying on her back staring up at the stars, totally consumed in thought.

Shadow heard someone walking up to them and folded his wings against his back. ~Crap, and my coats in the tree to.~ He turned around and nodded. I'm Shadow. How's it going?

"dont be sorry! I'm fine! I just have alittle dirt on my knees, thats all..." she said and looked up at him with a smile, still brushing of her knees tho. She looked down at her skirt and straightend it. She turned her attention to a girl that walked up to the two of them. "Oh, nice to meet you Yuina, my name's Roxxan!" she said and smiled at her. "Nice cat ears by the way, I think they're cute." she wasnt lying at all, she realy liked how some people had wolf, fox, and cat ears sometimes she got alittle jelouse because as a kid she always wanted them.
She looked at shadow and noticed he wasnt wearing his coat. , ah poor shadow... she thought and whispered into his ear "want me to get it for you? Your coat?" she asked.

Shadow lowered his head and blushed a little as he nodded. Would you please?
