Queen Ismaire

PostPosted: Fri Jun 16, 2006 12:52 pm
A breeze blew through the courtyard and caused a few leaves to fall from a nearby tree, one of the leaves drifted down to slowly towards the figure asleep on the bench. Ismaire stirred and opened her ruby eyes slowly. She was perplexed when she noticed the fact that she was alone; Kanako was nowhere in sight.

"That's strange....onii-sama would never leave without telling me, unless...someone hurt her..." She sat up and grabbed one of her guns from the holster on her waist and took a careful look around the courtyard. There were a few people milling about, but nothing worthy of her attention. Sighing, she rose from the bench and slowly walked around the bench, her arms crossed across her chest.

Kana bit her lip hard as she listened to Karin speak, her eyes widening in gradual realization. She did remember the report on TV, as well as running into Karin that night. She'd been crying, and she thought she remembered the distinct scent of blood. But she'd only been six and she didn't understand. Still... why hadn't she come and stayed with them? Kana's situation with her mother wasn't bad enough that they couldn't handle having one more in the house.

Kana whimpered, hands covering her eyes before any tears could leak out. "I... I'm very sorry..." she said faintly. "If I had known, I could have done something to help but..." She looked up at Karin, smiling weakly. "You're so brave," she said softly. "When.. my mom died I ran from home because I couldn't take it. Everything I saw reminded me of something we'd done, something we'd never be able to do again. But... I've found I can't escape that. I'm... I'm just a coward." She pressed her hands more firmly to her face, ashamed of herself.

Suka might have said something about this which he was letting happen in front of him, if he had not seen much of the same thing happen so many times before. If he'd had someone to run to when it'd hapened to him he would not have gone...he understood both sides of this conversation though. He was empathetic enough to not be blind toward the way that this affected people after so many times of hearing the same story. It was always something different, though he could relate them all to each other none theless. He turned and walked over to the other side of the tree sitting there and closing his eyes as he rested his head against the trunk of the tree. He felt the chance for him to sleep pass by and felt safe closing his eyes there...waiting

Karin sighed, gently rubbing Kana's back. She knew it was something that calmed her and she definitely needed calming down now. "I am not brave," she said. "You are the most wonderful person I know and definitely are not a coward. Even in all those fights, I never saw you cry, not even once! You'd just joke about it. Even when..." She paused, feeling the large scar on Kana's back, the difference in skin texture obvious even through the girl's shirt. "So don't ever call yourself a coward again. You've been able to keep smiling even though it's only been a year since your mother's death. I've had ten to recover and I'm still bothered by it. Just don't lose hope and don't stop smiling. You have no idea the impact you have on those around you. If you gave up, I don't know how I'd continue either..."

Karin quieted for a moment, a bit embarassed by her little speech. Then she pulled back, holding Kana's shoulders as she again looked into the girl's eyes. She smiled gently and nodded her head towards a male who was sitting holding a book. "You should go talk to him," she laughed. "Go ask about his wings. Aren't they wonderful?" She gently pushed Kana in that direction, knowing it would help take her mind off things. She'd probably perk right back up at the very thought. Then she sighed quietly, glancing back at Suka as she saw he'd retreated to the other side of the tree.

Kana's eyes widened as she heard Karin's words. What? She had an impact on people? When had she ever done anything for anyone? She was always simply... there, but she never did anything special. She swallowed and slowly pulled her hands from her face as she slowly processed everything Karin had just told her, ending with the command to visit the winged male she'd seen earlier. Kana sighed, hanging her head. But when she lifted it again, a weak smile had already returned. "O-ok..." she stammered. "I think I will."

She allowed herself be pushed gently in the direction and then continued walking, wiping nervously at her face to make sure she'd really kept her tears in. She'd forgotten about the wolf Karin was standing with, since he'd moved out of sight and her head was practically spinning. She bowed her head, whispering almost silently to herself, "I am so lucky..." Then she raised her head again as she arrived at the bench the male was seated on.

She paused, not really sure what she was going to say. So, she took a deep breath to calm herself and then waved cheerfully at him. "Hello!" she asked happily. "Can I sit here, please?" Then she continued quickly before she could back out. She never was one to approach people, and this felt odd. "Are... are those real?" she asked, pointing a clawed finger to his wings. The excitement danced in her eyes a she started, her ears perked happily once more and her tail flicking rapidly behind her.

Suka sat under the tree with his eyes closed and listened to the little speech that Karin had just given her friend. He opened his eyes when she'd cut herself off and then forgot to finish her sentence, though he was not watching them anymore so he could not tell why. He shook his head and closed his eyes again, noticing how his lids had stopped being heavy when he tried to open them. He kept them closed after that and pulled his dagger out again holding it by the blade and spinning it around in his hand that way. The first time he tried anything such as this he had cut himself many times and that he didn't, even after how long it'd been since he learned, made him feel less unoccupied.

Ismaire's kneen hearing picked up the sound of a group of people talking near the far said of the courtyard. Her curiousity getting the best of her, she walked over just close enough to hear what they were saying, she heard one of the girls crying....and she felt a pang of remorse that wouldn't go away, no matter how much she told herself it wasn't her buisiness.

Karin smiled as she watched Kana move away, noting that the girl really did seem to instantly cheer up. She simply could not resist the fascination of seeing something with wings, especially if it was capable of talking back. This school really was an amazing place. At first, Karin had been afraid Kana would give into dispair about the loss of her mother, but it seemed like she had been doing just fine.

She exhaled soflty once and then leaned around the tree, seeing Suka spinning the dagger around his hand. She blinked, but decided she didn't want to suddenly speak out and cause him to cut himself. Instead she circled around slowly to sit before him so he wouldn't be startled by a sudden appearance. She tried to ignore the fact that Suka had most likely been listening in, though her face turned faintly pink as she rethought what she'd just said to Kana. She bowed her head to the ground again, nervously picking through the grass.

Suka kept his eyes closed as he spun his dager and once she had been sitting in front of him for enough time he spun it faster and spoke out. "Quite the motivational speaker aren't we?" he asked this and then opened one of his eyes to lok at her raising the brow that was above the eye he'd opened as his lips shaped into a smile. He would not bring up the part that she'd skipped or ask why, only because he was not curious about things suck as that. He noted the color of her face as he waited for her response.

Zuno looked up from his book to the girl saying, "Sure. You can sit. And yes, my wings are real." He stood up and stretched his wings and then quickly closed them and sat back down on the bench. "My name is Zuno. Zuno Aire actually." he said as he placed his book back in his bag. "I'm a new student."

Karin blinked as she saw him smile and heard his words, but her embarassment only grew. She bowed her head further. "Sh-she needed it..." she said softly. "You have no idea how many times she's cheered me up like that." She rubbed at her face for a moment before glancing over at Kana. She seemed fine now... Karin breathed a sigh of relief and then glanced back at Suka. "So what are you doing?" she asked, trying to regain her composure.

Kana nodded and plopped down beside him, her legs up on the seat with her against her chest. She wrapped one arm absently around them as she tilted her head to see him. "Well, it's nice to meet you Zuno," she said cheerfully. "I'm Kana Oshiru! I just joined a few days ago too." She nodded, grinning happily as she hoped that he hadn't noted the scene from just a moment ago. Her eyes went back to his wings, widened in fascination. "They're... beautiful," she murmured softly. "I wish I could fly..."

It was probably a very odd thought for her to have, but ever since she was little she'd always loved anything with wings. Well, except maybe birds... She liked them for a different reason. She laughed at the thought and looked back at him, noticing the book. "What are you reading?" she asked curiously.

Zuno looked at the book in his hand, he had forgotten he had it. "Its called Healing and White Magic. I specialize in magic. Minly white and healing magic." he said as he placed the book into his bag. He looked at his wings, and then back at Kana. "Y'know I can help you fly once. Do you wanna fly?" he said shyly.

Zuno remembered that his ring had the ability to make a person fly with him as long as they touch. Remembering this he extended a hand. "C'mon, it will be fun."

Suka shrugged at her question. He stopped spining the dagger in his hand and opened both of his eyes "Just sitting here i guess...So you two have known each other for quite a long time huh?" he asked and still continued to smile. It was a weak smile, but that was the best that he could ever offer...with all that he's been through it was hard for him to smile all the time...and so the most he usually gets to is a smirk. He knew where the answer would come from...friendships that start young don't always last like this one, or so that's how it seemed to work to him. That's all he'd ever seen.
