Shane can barely feel Annie tugging at him. With a commanding fire in his voices he proclaims, "We can't be held at fault for what must be done. Your interest in sparing him pain is blind and naive. His power to manipulate minds will be eradicated."

Shane can feel the microscopic biomass hunt for the cells that possess the meteor radiation. An event so microscopic and grandiose that he nearly loses his mind entirely. But then he feels something. Something foreign. The device!

Shane's audibly teeth grind as the realization that he could inadvertently kill Annie's son pushes the dark passenger back. With his scientific mind regaining some control, he eases the pressure on Berchant's cells and uses the biomass to see how the device is connected to him.

Annie narrowed her eyes at Shane and his response, the air around her beginning to heat up. She grabbed the rail of the stairs to steady herself as she concentrated. "I don't care if I am naive and blind! I will stop you myself if I have to," Annie snapped. Her brown eyes showed her seriousness, she would die trying to stop him from harming another person if she had to.

Berchant smiles slightly at Annabella's decleration, but then frowns, she used too much of her powers earlier she would end up dying if she tried using much more of her power now. "Please... you know she'll end up dying if she uses much more of her power now..."

Annie glanced at Berchant and then to Shane, she hadn't expected Berchant to care whether she died or lived. Then again, knowing him he had more experiment ideas for her.

Then, Berchant takes a deep breath as he senses Shane's biomass begin to explore the device that he had set up to connect him with Christian. At least his power wasn't being attacked anymore. Taking another deep breath he whispered, "Please, stop... I'll remove the device myself." He began to unbutton his shirt as he spoke, revealing a small device with a keypad and thumb print reader that had several wires running into his chest.

Shane's eyes widen with shock and anger as he reigns in the churning biomass. "To your heart?! Scientists like you make us looks like impulsive morons. Don't you have any forethought? What if you had gotten into a wreck, or had been mugged? Your son would have died along side you for the sake of have an "insurance policy" against Annie. You had better disarm that properly or so help me you'll wish you could die."

Shane, now more calm, feels the heating air. He turns his head to Annie and gives her a look that says "I know you're not stupid."

"Calm down before you kill yourself. You wouldn't deprive your son of having a mother just to save this manipulative piece of garbage. You can read auras. You can't seriously tell me you don't feel what he is now in this weakened state."

"Calm down before you kill yourself. You wouldn't deprive your son of having a mother just to save this manipulative piece of garbage. You can read auras. You can't seriously tell me you don't feel what he is now in this weakened state."

The air cooled and Annie coughed lightly as her brown eyes remained narrowed at Shane. Catching her breath she replied, "Maybe you should listen to my requests more often. I told you already I am tired of murder..." Sighing she closed her eyes and read the auras in the room: there was Shane's aura much calmer than before and another meta-human aura... and then there was the odd spike in auras that she had sensed earlier.

She raised a brow at Shane and then turned to Berchant who was calmly entering numbers into the device in his chest. "He's a meta-human," she said, doubting her reading. Surely she would have noticed that fact earlier than now, but Shane said something about his weakened state. Was it possible to block her ability to read his aura? After all, Annie was the first to admit her aura reading ability was far from perfected. Her narrowed eyes fell on Berchant who glanced up at her and nodded slightly.

"If you will lend me your hand, Annabella. It is your thumb print that deactivates the device," he said grabbing her wrist.

"Let go of me," she snapped, placing her thumb on the reader. As the wires began to pull out of his chest she asked in a hiss, "What is it that you are capable of."

Berchant smirked, "Don't you feel like guessing?"

"No... Shane is right you crossed a line in attaching that device directly to your heart. I am seriously considering letting Shane kill you," she replied catching the device as the last wire tugged out of his chest. "Answer my question."

"I can manipulate auras, nothing that impressive," Berchant replied. Annie stepped back to Shane's side, still holding the device and not saying a word. Her look was enough to demand more of an explanation. There was more to it, there had to be. Smirking, Berchant continued, "Don't you think it was odd that it took you so long to decide to leave Daedalus. Especially when I took your case. And why is our son so attached to me considering everything I have put the two of you through?"

"You manipulate emotions as well," Annie replied, her hand forming a fist around the device that Berchant had just moments before been connected to.

Berchant clapped his hands and smiled widely, "I knew you would figure it out."

She closed her eyes considering everything she just heard, "You manipulated my pacifism... you are manipulating my son to love you... this device in my hands wasn't your only "insurance policy" against me. You used my emotions as well. How long have you been exaggerating my pacifism? Making it so I have no desire to kill you..."

Berchant smirked, "When you slapped me before breaking Christian out of Daedalus. And of course as long as I use my power you will stop Shane from harming me, no matter how illogical it is."

Annie's eyes widened at Berchant's admission and she glanced at Shane. Berchant was right, her heart just wasn't in killing him or even harming him, but logically she wanted desperately to harm this manipulative man. "You're a monster," she whispered, feeling the device cutting into her hand as she clutched it.

All the while, Shane is planning something that will make Berchant regret his actions.

Berchant smirked looking down at the small bleeding holes in his chest from where the wires from the device had been, "Do you honestly think I would go through all that trouble to placate you. Anyhow, I trust my other "insurance policy"- Annabella. While she might not be much of a threat to you considering the drain on her powers right now, we all know that she would die trying to protect me. Would you really let her die trying to protect 'scum' like me?"

"And of course, do you really wish to deal with a two year old who has the same power as his mother but to a greater scale who already hates you, Shane," Berchant continued. "If you kill me, I wouldn't be surprised if Christian didn't turn completely on you..." Berchant seemed rather unconcerned about the whole situation. He was confident in his ability to manipulate Annabella and his hold on Christian. Would Shane really risk Annabella's well fare or her son's just to get revenge against him?

Annie narrowed her eyes, full of hate at the man who had made her life a living nightmare for years- the man that had ensured that she would be willing to give up her life to protect. She glanced at Shane, considering telling him to knock her out and do what he pleased with Berchant. Maybe if Berchant was dead he wouldn't have control on her, Christian, or anyone else for that matter.

Shane's mouth curls into a malicious sneer. "Kill you? You're mistaken doctor. Of course I could kill you...quite easily in fact. It would take less than a few seconds for me to end your life with my bare hands. I could make the biomass break your body down to a molecular level and watch as you literally disintegrate in front of us."

"But these things are much to simple...not near fitting enough. You see, the most important thing to men like you is the knowledge you have gained and continue to desire. I have done a great deal of tinkering with the human mind over the years...and I know where that accumulated knowledge is kept."

"I don't have to kill you Berchant. I'll just reduce you to a simpleton that can't even read, let alone manage what little control you have over your metahuman ability. And don't think that either your son or Annie will be able to stop the process once it has begun. The biomass will act until the task is complete without any further input from me."

"Our discussion was enjoyable Doctor. It's a shame it has to come to this."

Without moving a muscle, Shane commands the biomass inside of Berchant to attack the knowledge center of his brain.

Berchant's blue eyes widened before they narrowed at Shane. So this was how he was going to play. He could already feel the air heating up around Annie, he could sense her getting ready to turn on Shane. He knew he had seconds to make a decision before the attack was completed and he closed his eyes and worked on altering Annabella's mood, relieving her of the desire to protect him no matter what, amplifying her hate for him. Shane was right, his knowledge was everything to him, being reduced to a simpleton would be worse than death. His colleagues delight at him falling so far, the thought of it. Better to die at the hands of his long time test subject than be reduced to an idiot by Shane.

Annie felt the air cooled around her as she no longer felt the desire to protect Berchant. In fact racing through her mind was memories of him pushing her to use her powers even when they knew it could kill her, how Berchant manipulated her and her son, the experiments, the tubes they had poked in her and the needles they prodded her with. Closing her brown eyes she focused on a few drops of blood going into Berchant's heart and changed them into acid.

Berchant's eyes widened in pain as he felt Annabella's minute attack. Smirking he said to her, "I hope this buys you a little bit of happ-" he stopped as he began to cough, blood from his burning lungs splattering on the white carpet. Berchant held in his scream as he felt his organs burning, but his breathing grew staggered. Using the last of his energy as he grabbed the railing of the staircase he smirked at the two of them, before collapsing to the ground breathing his last breath.

As Berchant breathed his last, Annie snapped out of her trance. She stared in shock at the still dissolving Berchant and then glanced at Shane. She ducked her head and whispered, "I'm sorry, Shane. I shouldn't have acted on my own, but..." She trailed off unsure of what to say. It was bad enough to realize that she had been had by Berchant again but to admit it aloud...

Deora_Alvarez
Deora followed Trinity's advice, only pausing momentarily on how much it sounded like some comic book cliche. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, doing her best to get completely calm. As she got quiet she found she could not only hear the splashing in the pool, but feel the movement she'd caused under the surface. She could feel not only the waves, but the currents causing them. Beyond that, she could feel where the pool's filtration system drew in an jetted the water back out. She could almost see the water running in the pipes through the floor and walls, running alongside the facility's regular water supply. It was faint, and she wouldn't have known what to look for if Trinity hadn't told her, but she could definitely sense it. Water was flowing throughout the walls around her, and she hadn't even thought about it.

Her attention was drawn away from the water for a bit at the sounds of Trinity receiving and typing a couple messages, and when she tried to sense the water in the pipes again she found them to be fainter, seemingly farther away. It may have been beginner's luck that she'd gotten that far in the first place, but it gave her hope of what her power could become. For the moment she decided to ignore the water in the pipes, and focus more on what was in front of her. She paid more attention to the currents and movements of the water in the pool, finding patterns and trying to predict where they would go. After a few minutes that seemed like forever in the quiet of the room, she opened her eyes again. "I think I get it now." She said, a confidant smirk returning to her face.

Trinity nodded, "Now try-" she heard a chime from her smart phone.  She had it set up to chime a certain way when there was news on the Daedalous Project.  Her eyes widen as she saw Daedalous Project Masacar.  "They didn't... Did they?"  Trinity read enough to know that there were bodies of dead Daedalous project agents on the ground, some was just pieces of flesh others were completely missing which in turn lead her to believe it was Shane and Annie.

Sometimes Trinity had mixed feelings about killing off Daedalus agents who couldn't defend themselves.   Pretty much all the humans. At times it wasn't a fair fight.  Not that Daedalus didn't have the equipment to kill or capture metas. It at least leveled the playing field but without it they did not have a chance.  For that reason she would try not to simply kill them. They are still people making ends meet just because their employer is against metas doesn't necessarily mean their lives are suddenly worth nothing...

Trinity forward the article to Gidget along with "I'm piecing together a team." After sending that she looked to Deora and Kerana.  "Come with me,  I may need your help in the field".

She sent a text to Theonis,

Theonis raised an eyebrow, surprised. Wondering what it is about he left.

"Sorry Richard, seems something important came up."

Theonis Text
"Got it Trin. On my way"

Funny how things seemed to work. If he had been asleep right now then Trinity might not have send him this text.

"This should be interesting at least."

"Maybe...maybe it's about dad...."

"Yes but it is pathetic that he was able to manipulate me so easily," Annie replied unhappily. Sighing she glanced down at Berchant's body slowly turning into a pile of goo. She laughed slightly, and said aloud, "Buy me a bit of happiness? How am I supposed to look Christian in the eye and explain I killed his beloved father."

Pinching the bridge of her nose she considered Shane's question about what to do with Berchant's mother. "She isn't a real threat," Annie replied. "Not compared to Berchant. She might be stubborn and hate meta-humans... and really dislike us, but I don't think we really need to do anything about her. Maybe the worst we will have to do is knock her out so we can take Christian with us quietly."

Frowning she continued, "I am more concerned about Christian being a problem. If Berchant's emotional hold remains on him he could quite easily turn on us. Especially if he realizes what I've done." Shivering slightly, Annie added, "I don't have the energy right now to stop Christian if he decides to use his power against us..."

Deora was trying once again to feel all of the water around her, but she was having difficulty. It was like one of those magic eye 3D pictures; just when the thought she had it, her focus would change, and all her effort was wasted. It didn't help that something seemed to be up with Trinity. As she told the girls to follow her, Deora's was completely snapped away. "Wait, in the field? Like, on a mission? But I haven't even learned anything yet!" Deora protested. In her heart she really wanted to go, to get back out into the outside world, but she was unsure of her ability to defend herself outside of hand-to-hand scuffles.

Gidget takes a break from making modifications to a body to read Trinity's message. Though expressionless, she is astounded by the amount of destruction two people could cause. She figures Trinity would want to speak to her about this, and that her lab would be the most secure place to do it.

Gidget puts her tools down and awaits Trinity's arrival while trying to hack into Daedalus security archives to see exactly what happened.

"Besides...you could always tell Christian that I killed him. He would believe that."

Trinity could understand Deora's hesitation. She too was in a similar position but unlike Deora she didn't have the luxury of it being a choice. She pretty much had to be ready for anything from the get go. "Yes, a mission. Even when you managed to swirl the drink at the restaurant even that much could be a big impact for what we're up against. Perhaps you can learn it better when you actually need to use it. If things get too rough or I feel that you may not be ready for this then I'll send you and Kerana back home.

If you feel you're not ready for this at all, then that's okay too. I'll respect your decision." Trinity said making eye contact and placed a hand on Deora's shoulder.

Kerana went behind Trinity indicating that she would back her up. She took on every oportunity to help out, especially so she could find her parents and figure out what she can do. On top of that there are extra credits at stake for going on a mission. Although it was obvious she wanted Deora to join them but she didn't want to push her into something she wasn't comfortable with.

In the back of her head she hoped that Deora would be able to work with Theonis despite their differences.
