Although I do think it a tad pessimistic to assume that

Stereotypes = society. P:

Cynicism is all well and good, but moderation in all things is needed, as Aristotle said. <3

... How... contradictory, Charlie-sama. confused

Maa, Niph, tis true though - I ish not being pessimistic. You should do English language. Everything, EVERYTHING, is stereotypes. whee Tis normal, if you ask me. It's not necessarily a bad thing I suppose... Sometimes...

[6:05pm in the ICU House]

[B&B is in the Diary Room]

*smartens skirt* Maa, Brother Tosh. *angry face* I demand compensation right now! An extra £50,000 along with the promised fee of £100,000! I did not come here to worship you! That was not my goal when entering the ICU House!

Why did you come here then, B&B?

TO BE BLOODY FAMOUS, THAT'S WHY!!

And also for the money.

1984 is amazing. <3 I refuse to respect anyone who has read it and thinks it's boring. D< 1984 && a whole bunch of other books.

My favourite part was the 2 minutes' hate, or whatever it was called. That was.. <3

From a purely aesthetic point of view, of course. I'm not advocating Big Brother-style government.. P:

1984 is my bible. I worship it. xd (Just kidding, but it's still one of my favourite books.)
I especially love O'brien's torture of Winston. 2+2=5 definitely. 3nodding

Noode: Brother Tosh sounds wierd. Isn't it better to call her Big Sister? Although that wouldn't fit the novel. rofl

@dasg: hmm.. did you apply for the pell grant? or perhaps loans? There are tons of scholarships available. Yeah, state funded schools are more expensive than private ones. in my experience at least. and you could also do work study.

my parents were pretty laid back with my schooling once they realized that I was harder on myself than they were sweatdrop or so it seems. cool but yeah, I'm surprisingly calm about my work nowadays. I found that the more you stress out about things, the more difficult it is to accomplish. but if you're just cool and calm about it, things run more smoothly.

@chalrie: though they're all very contradictory they're also true *shakes head* oh well, that's life I guess.

Maa, I must read this 1984 then. 3nodding Indeedly indeedly...

I think you would, Niph, I think you would. But at the same time, what you discover, uncover and decipher in English Language is fascinating. There are so many layers to our language in society, just like there is so much to analyse and pick apart in Literature. 3nodding

I dunno, I always think Lang is a bit doss since.. if you know how to communicate well then you instinctively understand all those nuances anyway.. xP

@yalie - I dunno, I feel that I produce better work under pressure.. xD I always leave things until like the night before or something, then tell myself I must do it within say 2 hours, and it gets done better than if I give myself an unlimited amount of time.. since I start questioning myself and tie myself in knots..

*cannot work under pressure for her life*

It stresses me out. gonk Obviously.

But Eng Language is... well, you notice more things about something which you think you know everything about - and that there is nothing more to. In fact, it is quite the opposite. mrgreen Some may find it boring to analyse, admittedly, but it is just as analytical as Lit. *shrug*

It's not analysing things like metaphors and stuff though. It's observing how gender is portrayed in language... power too. Looking at negative semantic space and marked and unmarked terms. Lexical symmetry and whatnot. xd

I'm the same as you when it comes to homework. I always leave the most important assignments to the last two days or so(though I've learned not to leave them until the night before, as it never got me good results xd ). I think everyone at university does that. There is simply no point starting on a research assignment the moment you get it. Not only are there tutorials to attend and other documents to read, but to trawl through dozens of books without a clear and precise argument in mind is like sifting through sand. Of course this only applies to study and assignments. When it comes to actual paid work, I go for the opposite approach; start as early as possible, get everything done quickly and efficiently, and finish early.

B&B: I have a feeling you will love doing English language at Oxford or Cambridge. Very few people talk about such terms as semantic space or lexical symmetry in public. rofl

Well, of course. I am a weird person. mrgreen

Pffft. I use literary terms a lot.. like intertextuality and juxtaposition and whatnot. P: But I think, B&B, I'd hate just to look at language without beauty.. that's really what drives me in lit, the aesthetic pleasingness of it. xD

Yes. I must admit, whilst in Lit you strive to undo the texts in a good light, pick out the things the author uses, etc, Lang is very much about being negative. xd

I do prefer Lit. I do. Heh.
