If you flame stupid people upon first post, you might drive off potential new recruits. =P

Why do you have a separate branch for medical?
Each of force (army, airforce, navy and marines) has a medical branch.
It's a sub category like; steward, or an army rifleman.
Because the force is the organization the job is the designation.
Or core in army, rate in navy. I don't know the others.

If it was up to me, there would be a Medical Armed Forces sector in the U.S. Military. This would make things much easier for every other branch, but it is "convenient" to just use the Branch's resources for their own medical needs.

Medical is actually one of the hardest and dying-est branches we have sadly.
sad

We often NPC our medics in the field, the people at Medical are normally around to help story lines fill out and do intense surgery on people. Medical is also the most difficult, of all the branches because you are required to learn some real life medical stuff. But once you pass, you can fly through the ranks and be quite well known and literate. And you could even have it easier in medical school. XD

I used to head medical, I got to be the head because I was the only one in there. >.>;
Though it's not a good thing to advertise, if you want to fly through ranks, Join one of the branches that has limited people. >.>;
Air Force I know needs people, and Medical is desperate and I think is made up of mostly mules.

Wow, I'm such a great advertiser. XD

Nero I don't mean to challenge you but everyone has two jobs in the forces.
My post said that before. They have the force and then their job.
Like; an army chef.

If you're going to make a separate section for medical you'll need to make a section for everything else.
Hospitality, CSO (combat system operators), GD (General duties), emergency team, communication, electronic technician, marine technician, mechanic, driver, riflemen, specials, photographer, musician, physical trainer, supply, an so on.

I know that Americans do have a lot more dealing with civilians.
Australian Navy has its own firefighters within the Navy.
Whereas Americans have civilians on their ships at sea.
I just thought it would be cooler to make it more realistic.

We have those too.
o_o;

The medics that DO, go out into the rps, {which arn't alot and is very rare} are trained for combat. They get shot guns and pistols though, no cal. or whatever.

Sorry to confuse, I edited my post. :/

The answer to the Medical predicament is simply this: we are not the American Military or any other nation in the real world. We are the Gaian Military, governed by our own rules tailored to the specifics of how we roleplay. Jinx already stated that many people NPC the medics and that some branches have sub-role medics, although the medical branch is where we attempt the hardest cases of trauma and such.

When an RPC is injured in a battle, they are airlifted or transported out of the battle and to the trauma center in the medical branch, where they are realistically treated for their wounds. If we did not have a medical branch specifically for that, then there would be major conflict over members from different branches not agreeing on how to treat something.

Now for the medics that do enter the battles, they are treated usually as members of their attatched units. However, most minor wounds and injuries are taken care of by the minor medical training of the soldiers themselves. Anything above that could not be handled within the field and must be specially transported for that, which is precisely what we do. I hope this helps clarify everything.

I'm quite aware that you guys are not responsible to the defense and offense of America and her interests.
I'm sure it does make it much easier for role-play.
I'm just not sure how you'd fit the branch into it.
Do they get to see a taste of combat or do the medics sit and wait?
PostPosted: Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:42 pm
As with every other job in our military, medical is strictly volunteer. The fact is that some people don't want to enter the combat setting for one reason or another. I have in my travels, seen people who do not wish to fight but to stay behind the lines for the purpose of support while remaining pacifist in politics. Some of our medics do choose to sit and wait for emergencies, which is perfectly acceptible, but those who are willing are perfectly allowed to attatch themselves to a unit and travel into the field, firing their weapon if need be or if they want to create a firefight themselves.

As for the branch segment, I guess the baseline answer is that it makes for ease of organization. The neat thing about the branch aspect is that the medics, if they choose to go into the field, are not bound to one specific branch, but can alternate attatchments if need be. For instance, if a medic is needed more for a Marine landing rather than an Air Assault strike, then the medic can be easily sent to the Marine branch without having to worry about chain of command and such and a unit's ownership over a medic. Is this helpful? I apologize for sounding condescending if I am.

Oh no not at all. And I wasn't trying to be harsh about the idea I just wanted to know more. That actually sounds pretty good. I like the way you've done that. C:

I believe that I am currently the ONLY combat medic RPC. Unfourtanatly for everyone, I am with Phantom Force so we're not in major battles, we're the reasons behind them. twisted
