Shawn stares at Lorelai for a moment as he absorbs most of what she just said. He blinks and snaps out of it and tilts his head slightly, puzzled.

"So, you mean you don't have to be here then? But if that's true, why are you here?"

Meanwhile, having been ignored most of the time, Cinder moves to the other side of Shawn and finds a sunny spot to sit in. It doesn't really affect him, but he still enjoys sunning himself.

"It's a bit complicated. I could get into it if you really wanted, but trust me, it would only bore you," Lorelai answered, dismissing the question out of hand. "Suffice it to say that this school has one of the best research facilities I've found in my travels, despite its obvious inferiority to the ones where I came from. Also, there are plenty of strange occurrences and people with abnormal abilities on this campus for me to study. Ultimately, I'm just doing it to kill some time while my computer runs some particularly long calculations related to my research, but it's filled the time well enough so far." Lorelai nodded, smiling, as if this explanation would clear up everything.

"Oh, um, okay. At least you're keeping busy," Shawn says with a slight nod, simply going along with what she said. "So a lot of people have abnormal abilities here? I was hoping to eventually learn magic along with a regular education here, so I guess it's not surprising that would be true."

He glances over at Cinder and a thought strikes him.

"You... You study abnormal things? Like Cinder there?"

Cinder perks his ears at this, looking over at Lorelai. You can almost feel him scowling at her. If you can see him.

Lorelai nodded, smiling and waving as she looked directly over toward Cinder. "I'm sure you could find plenty of people to teach you how to use magic," she said, glancing back to Shawn. "I've already met several people that have abilities that most people would describe as 'magic' or 'sorcery' of a sort. And you seem to already have potential for manipulating energy, so I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult for you to pick up."

Looking back at Cinder, she winked, still smiling widely. "And yes. As I said before, I've never encountered anything quite like your red friend over there," she said, nodding approvingly. "I'd very much like to invite the two of you over to my lab sometime to run a few tests."

Shawn fidgets slightly and glances over at Cinder who has padded over to him, to stand nearby. Cinder gives another glare at Lorelai before talking to Shawn.

"I really don't think that's a good idea, Shawn."

Shawn fumbles slightly as he starts picking up the rest of his things, "Um, tests? On Cinder?" He doesn't look at Lorelai as he says this, mostly because he doesn't want his anxiety show.

Meanwhile, he 'talks' to Cinder, merely thinking to himself, since he knows Cinder can hear his thoughts. "I know, I know. I... don't think she means harm, Cinder. But I'm worried about her getting curious about me being 'abnormal.'"

"Well, it's okay if you don't want to..." Lorelai said cheerfully, waving her hand at Shawn. "It's just a few scans, taking a few samples... routine sorts of things. But if you don't want to, it's not like I could really force you to, right?" she asked, smiling. Thinking to herself for a moment, she held up a finger. "Actually, I suppose I could force you to if I really wanted to..." she muttered, thoughtfully fingering a small device holstered at her hip before shaking her head. "Okay, so I definitely could force you to. But I'm not going to," she finally concluded with a cheerful grin. "Anyway... Shaun, Cinder, nice meeting you both. I'm afraid I have to get back to the lab and finish some ongoing research. Science never stops!" Nodding and waving, Lorelai spun on her heels, fastening her goggles back over her eyes and heading back off in the direction she'd originally come from.

Shawn audibly sighs in relief before standing up, "Er, thanks I think. It was nice.....meeting you too."

Cinder glares at the retreating figure one more time before turning back to Shawn. "I think you should try to avoid her from now on."

Shawn grabs his things and starts heading to his room, muttering until Cinder spoke. "Didn't you tell me I should be more social just a bit ago?" He sighs again and visible shudders, "But yeah, I'd rather avoid any of her tests... I think I'll finish studying inside and away from that lab."

Seishi and Hiro faded into the black of the smokey energy that surrounded them like it did in the presence of death when a victim of the sins that keep the current world running parishes. Another eruption of smoke appeared in the courtyard under the shade of a tree, the shadows becoming the visible Death Energy that had been surrounding them at the hospital. They appeared within it as it cleared with a breeze, and she let the energy dissolve into the air as she let go of him and took a few steps back. "I'm sorry Master..." she hid behind the tree, half of her body showing on one side of it as the other half was hidden behind the tree's trunk. She looked at the ground, her wings folded close to her as sh showed the obvious guilt she felt at having him be stolen from her so easily. She failed him in that she could not protect him from the Vampiric Nightmare...she had taken him so easily that it was as if Seishi was not even there. She'd fallen for the illusion of herself being the target of the attack, without thinking fully on the idea. She would have to protect herself aswell as her Master if she waqs going to fulfill her purpose as the guard of his life. She could not let him die because she let herself die, and thus she had to keep to that new purpose the other way around aswell-she could not let herself die because she let him. She made sure not to look at him, she was afraid of punishment at the moment, but if she recieved it she did not want to see it come at her...the blood still dripped from her blades onto the ground and se could still feel the power of the Nightmare that had been attempting to attack them. Her Death energy repelling aura would not have lasted long, and if they had not fled she would have not had time to apologize to him...right now they would stil have been in that hospital and she would be protecting him with her life and revealing-most likely-to him something that she had not revealed to anyone before. The true power that she was born with would eventually be forced to be used to protect him, because if she was to carry out her former Master's final command then she would have to send herself into an almost certain suicide. She would have to fight Death and protect herself and her Master at the same time...her final fight could end with a physical struggle with Death...and that struggle could be what her newest Master's life depended on. She did not know the morals of the Death she sought out to kill...and with her new decision she would have little time to figure that out. This was all that ran through her head as she waited for her punishment...the punishment that she deserved for not being prepared. She closed her eyes...

Hiro blinked his eyes open, having closed them for a moment against the mist that'd surrounded them. He'd never been transported in any way before in his life, and it was kind of strange. He'd closed his eyes in the hospital, and reopened them in a courtyard. He breathed out slowly, calming himself a bit, when he felt Seishi release him, back away, and then apologize.

He turned slowly, watching her in a slight confusion as he realized she was actually hiding as well. He took a small step towards her and then stopped again, at first not knowing what she was talking about. But a second later he realized she must be feeling odd for letting him be taken away. After all, wasn't she sort of giving herself the role of protecting him? His eyes shifted to her bloody weapons and then to her own, which had now closed. He stood still for a moment, wondering what she expected him to do. He never would have even imagined she was waiting for a punnishment.

He frowned slightly and shook his head. "You don't have to be sorry," he said with a small nod. "You came to help, and that's more than enough. I didn't even do anything at all, so I'm to blame as well, right?" He shrugged, and glanced down at the ground. "And we're both ok, so it turned out fine." Actually, he didn't entirely agree with that. The one who'd attacked them was most likely dead. He didn't see how she could possibly still be alive, but he didn't let himself linger upon that idea.

A pale girl with gray blue hair soared into the courtyard, large, feathered wings spread behing her. She blinked a few times before suddenly stopping in place, and simply hovering their in the air. She stared around, surveying all those in the courtyard with a soft smile. She saw a girl walking off, another female hiding behind a tree from a guy, and a male standing up and starting off.

She stared at this boy the longest, tilting her head to one side curiously. She sensed something strange, but more from around him than actually him. She drifted a little closer and then slowly set her feet upon the ground, trailing a short distance after him. Her eyes darted around him, top to bottom, either side, just staring at the empty air.

Then she seemed to realize what she was doing and stopped short, eyes slightly wide. "U-um, excuse me...?" she called quietly, still staring around but not at him. "Is there something... there...?" she trailed off, sure that she must have made herself out to be insane. A bit of pink spread across her cheeks as the white feathered wings wrapped just slightly around her, trying to hide her in her sudden uneasiness.

Shawn stops when he hears a voice ask a question and looks behind him, seeing trying to hide behind their...wings? He blinks slightly, and suddenly realizes he was staring at the girl and tries to cover it by explaining.

"Oh, um, you might mean Cinder? I, er, was told people had...different abilities here, so I guess most of them would sense him, or see him, huh?" Shawn is more suprised that someone else knows Cinder is there rather than the fact the said person has wings, it seems, but at least people won't think he's talking to himself anymore.

Naomi blinked, peeking around the edge of her right wing as she stared curiously at the male, and then once more to a space beside his head. She wasn't sure where to look for this "Cinder" but she could feel he was there, sort of... It was odd, and hard to explain. She inched another couple steps towards him and nodded her head slowly. "I can... sense him.. just a bit," she said softly, gray blue eyes slightly wide.

She glanced around herself, and then back to him before she approached a little closer and held out her hand. "I'm Naomi," she said with a warm smile. "I'm sorry to be bothering you like this. I couldn't help it.." She laughed a little awkwardly, rubbing at the back of her head with the hand she wasn't holding out. Her wings folded back behind her and tucked against her back again.

Shawn lightly shakes her hand and relaxes slightly, seeing someone more nervous than him. "Actually I'm sorry if Cinder is bothering you. If I could make him disappear, I'm sure I would've done so during one of his scoldings long ago... I'm Shawn, by the way."

Cinder moves to ride on Shawn's shoulder so he can get a better view of the newcomer. "Now see, I like this person better. A bit skittish, but not wishing to experiment on me."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:44 am
Naomi paused, her eyes wideing. "Ah! Please don't make him disappear! Er, I mean... even if you could... don't do so on my account!" Then she stopped again, bowing her head. "It's nice to meet you," she said calmly, ignoring her outburst of just a second ago. She glanced towards the air around Shawn again, frowning slightly as she tried to focus and figure out where Cinder was.

"He's not bothering me..." she went on slowly, staring towards Shawn's shoulder now. "I just can't see him very well. It's kind of fun trying to, like a game." She nodded her head, smiling as she said this. Most of the "games" she'd played were really just training exercises. Her wings shifted slightly, revealing the sword she wore at her waist.

Desta soared through the open sky, her wings blending in with the sunrise. She appeared so graceful, and magical in the open ceiling that went on for eternity. Desta wished to fly as far as she could into the horizion, just to see where she would end up. The possibility of dying never crosses her mind, but what she would encounter always sent jitters of excitement up and down her spine. The fairy couldn't help but look at the sun, and listen for it. The sun was calling her name, urging her to go off on her dreams. Desta sighed. She needed a home, and this was the only place that allowed her safety from hateful glares.

Her sunset hues tore away from the delightful sun to stare down at where she was. Hmm..this place was new. not to mention there were quite a few others down there. They appeared like specks to her, and it made the fairy chuckle. Would they not be startled to see a n odd looking female drop from the sky. If they did Desta would just hurt them. It made life a lot easier for her anyway. So, with an astounding grace, Desta plummeted towards teh soft, grass that awaited her feet. Her wings were folded comfortabley into her back, and the wind was like ice against her blue-gray skin, but Desta looked more pleasant now than she had a few moments ago. Her body flapped in the wind, allowing the barriers of gravity to do their bidding.

Both eyes were shut as Desta continued falling. It seemed like forever to the fairy, but it had been a few moments before her wings bursted open. The miniscule items on her back jerked backward, pulling Desta up as well. They fluttered for a few seconds, allowing Desta to catch her breath as it had been jerked away when they opened so abruptly. She chuckled after the rushing wind sound died from her pointed ears. That was so much fun! Desta giggled childishly, lowering herself until she touched down. Her eyes reopened themselves to scan her new surroundings, and it was actually impressive at how nature-filled the courtyard was. A small smile tugged at her plump lips as she felt a sudden wash of home uplift her spirits.
