Autolycus? Why does that sound familiar? Fragments of memories flashed through his mind. He would have taken the time to take it all in but could not because of Kerana. As she fell into his arms Nova quickly embraced her.

"Shhshhh, calm down it'll be okay." Nova whispered as he comforted her. He was quiet for a moment.

"I think you should tell him. If you do love him you should. If the feeling is mutual then you would become so much more precious to him. Something he would want protect even more. That shouldn't cause problems with the pact, correct?"

This reminded Trinity of how she was when she when she feelings for the one she served, the one she protected and how hurt she was when he introduced her to his love. Even after all they went through together she would always be seen as his protector, his captain of the guards, there were lines that were drawn an should not be crossed. She pounded her fist on the bar table and faced Alec point at him with her glowing eyes,"Know your place boy! Just as I knew mine!"

Alec jumped in his seat, his eyes wide and frantic like a startled rabbit. My place? My Place?! The words bore a hole into him. His place, as he had been told, was arms length from his designated fox kin. To make sure that no harm befall them, and to obey their commands.

From what the elders told him their partnership with the fox kin used to be one of mutual respect and dedication. But as the generations went on, the children of those fox kin began to forget how close they were to never existing. Now the wolves are regarded as servants as well as guardians. His place is supposed to be beneath Kerana's heel.

But she has never seen him treated him that way. Even when she was being ridiculed by her fellow foxes, she would treat Alec as a friend...someone equal.

Alec knows what could happen, though. One of his aunts was the guardian for Kerana's mother. She was killed for allowing a human to couple with her fox-kin. If things were to develop between the two of them, and anyone were to find out, Alec would be executed with extreme prejudice.

The thoughts watered down as Alec remembered where he was and who was glaring at him with much intensity. He swallowed hard and asked, "What if I'm sick of holding it in too? What am I to do? I can't change the way I---"

A soft impact is heard beneath his feet. The notebook he treasured to no end had slipped from his person when he was startled, and had jostled itself to the ground just by Trinity's feet. Alec picked up the sound and checked his pockets. His face went pale as he realized what may be revealed.

Trinity noticed the book at her feet. She figured she either didn't notice it before or it was revealed to her by some unknown means. One thought was that it was from the necromancer. She picked it up and opened it and read the following:

Eyes of green
I need to hide from them
The more they look into mine
The more I realize,
These green eyes
Will unlock something inside
That will eventually, lead to my demise

She wondered for a moment if this poem was talking about her. Her eyes were green after all. She flipped to the next page and saw drawings of a familiar fox girl with more poems. There was one of her looking with a smile and movement of hair very precise and very calculated strokes. Methodical in a sense as if no mistakes were made. There were other poems written.

Little red, little red
With a turn of your head you can be dangerous
With a smile
You could land me in exile
If I reveal
What I do feel

Trinity looked up and saw Alec searching," Is this yours?"

Alec stared through Trinity like a deer that had heard something potentially life threatening. His hands began to tremble, and then clasped them together in a feeble attempt to get them to stop.

He wanted to say yes, to tell it high upon the mountain. But thoughts of Kerana's exile and his execution reduced his words to a redundant, "Uh...Um."

Trinity did not need him to answer and realized how dire the situation was. "No, ofcourse it's not yours. But I know who's it is." She sees Alejandro coming down, "Alejandro stay down here and wait for the food, Alec come with me." she leads him up to her room passing the room where Nova and Kerana were hugging.

Alec followed Trinity. His legs felt like fifty stone weights were tied to them, and he was pretty sure he could taste his stomach. His mind is so preoccupied that he didn't even notice Kerana and Nova's scent in the room they passed.

He walked through the doorway into Trinity's room and shut it behind him quietly. He turned slowly to face Trinity. His shoulders nearly climbed up to his ears as he felt the terror bubble up inside of him.

Kerana looked up at Nova,"No, that would kill him. If I court outside my kin would be portrayed as not protecting the species. The wouldn't hesitate to kill him and place me in exile. They killed my mom's gaurdian and exile her until she could prove that she could continue the species. In the end it doesn't matter if the feeling is mutual."

"Sorry to say it but your race is messed up. Fresh blood is important to a species in order to grow. Killing your guardian also makes no sense at all. If your kind does that then in a way they are the ones breaking the pact. How can the wolves protect the foxes if the foxes themselves kill the wolves if a certain set of rules are broken? It makes no sense at all.

"It may not make sense but it is because of those rules the fox-kin have been able to begin to flourish and not be an extinct species in science books. In a sense... even though we are their masters... in the end the wolves are able to mate with anyone they please. Along those lines I wonder who has the real freedom here..."

"Protecting the bird by placing it in a cage huh?"

Nova placed his hands on Kerana's shoulders and softly pushed her out of the embrace. "I can give you all the advice that I can give you but in the end it is up to you. Live your life in the safety of the cage of rules or be free from those rules and live life the way you want it. It's as simple as that. What do you want?"

"To be honest, I still don't see him beyond an older brother figure... I made such a big fuss about it in fear that people would come to the wrong conclusion that doesn't exist. Something one of us can be killed over, something that one of us could be exiled for.

Look at him, he's so shy, stutters so much, and he keeps pushing me away keeping me out. Doesn't even share the most important possession he has that he risked my life for. Furthermore yesterday... when his wolf side took over to save me... it scared me. I'm not sure how aware his wolf soul is of Alec's feelings. I wasn't sure if I could hold him back..I would be happy to at least give him a chance if the consequences weren't so dire.

Furthermore, I feel my family has gone through enough hardships not to go through even more because of my decisions. To be free would be nice... but the responsible thing to do is to stay in the cage." she really didn't want to cause further trouble for her family. If she could prove to the elders that her mother's decisions did not effect her, then perhaps they'd be more willing to allow the fox-kin to mate outside their species.

In truth, as much as she would like to say she shared mutual feelings for Alec...she really isn't sure what she really feels for him. She felt a little lost, confused about her feelings. It didn't seem that way earlier... it was obvious that Alec is a good friend nothing more... but... if he sees her as something more... she didn't want to hurt him. She rubbed her arm and looked down. The fox girl couldn't help but feel terrible that she doesn't feel the same way because he's done so much for her.

Nova smiled and pat her head.

"I think he fears for the same things you do. Tell you what. You tell him what you just said. That you reacted the way you did because you were afraid what would happen if people really thought you were going out. And I'll...see what I can do about those rules. You'll find my influence to be ...large. Wouldn't be the first time I've changed the course of a race. Well in this lifetime anyway."

He shut up instantly after saying the last part. It wasn't something he should say to others. He hoped that that Kerana didn't fully hear that.

"You can really do that...?" it would mean so much for both the guardians and their masters. She was so used to the way things are that she never thought there would be any way to change it.

"I will certainly try Kerana. I cannot guaranty that it will work but I shall try." He replied to the fox. "I know elders can be very stubborn in their ways. At least they won't be like the dragon-kin. They tried to torch me."
