I'm from Muncie & my HS was Wapahani & I went to Ball State University!
I like it down here just fine--I've had quite enough of 3-month-long winters with ice constantly all over the roads & snow burying the house, thank you.
I do miss Old Fashioned Cream pie from Wick's in Winchester, though. Mmmm! heart Can't get that down here. But you can't get Sweet Potato pie up north! Or sweet tea! 3nodding

Hey all! New Gaian and Carolinian here. Well, I did create an account back in 2004, but I didn't really do much with that.

So umm, been here in Fayetteville for the past few months. I can't say I like this place much, or the U.S. as a whole. Then again, I've spent more than half of my life in South Korea because of the military, so a lot of things are new to me here. Things aren't as convenient here as they were in Korea. So, yeah, hoping you guys can help me with Gaia and getting used to this country.

In a different country even the most basic things become alien. I went to the UK in 1991 & I was more disoriented by simple little things like using a public telephone box or observing how the electric bill got paid by my UK penpal than by the big differences I expected to be there.

Yeah, the basics really are the most difficult to adjust to. Having spent most of my life in Korea, moving back to the U.S. really makes me feel like a foreigner. I'm so used to being able to walk 5 minutes to the nearest store in just my sweats and some flip flops. Going anywhere really didn't take very long at all. And if I needed to go to the next city over, I could just hop on one of the public buses, which came every 15 minutes. Here, in Fayetteville atleast, there's almost no public transportation at all. Even getting a cab is a major hassle. So, for me to go anywhere right now is kept to a very minimum.

I do have a question though... I haven't exactly looked in to this very much, but I didn't see it addressed on the state's DMV website. So, I'm wondering, how would you go about getting a driver's liscense? I know there's a written test, a driving test, an eye exam, etc. But I'm wondering if it's mandatory to get a permit before I get a liscense...?
