Anyways, is a social security card in America the same as a national insurance card in Britain?

Not exactly the same.
In America, we get them at birth. One is presented to our parents. 3nodding
The usage sound similar.
We need our social security card to apply for jobs, our liscenses and yeah the welfare system. It's more of a identification thing. I think the governor of loussiana, told the morons that refused to leave before hurricane Rita struck New Orleans was to "Write your social security number in permit marker on your arm."

Well my rant of the day.
I'm a teacher's aid during fourth period for the media center. gonk Today one of the libarians thought that I would voluntary miss part of my 5th hour to help them out with something they want to do tomorrow. stare
Hello, I'm there 4th hours, my 5th hour is reservered for that class and to missing it is not a option. Plus to mention I think tomorrow I might be doing registration stuff for the PSAT.

rolleyes Seriously.. giving honest feedback about the school is so important.

Doesn't matter to me, I just have to tolerate it for a few more months until I move to Houston and then finish my senior year there.
Besides my grade in my 5th hour class (plus to mention I actually like the people in that class and the class itself.) and the Psat are a billion time more important than giving them worthless imput and wasting my time just so they can simply make desperate attempts to try to improve the school.

rofl Now the guy thinks I'm a total brat just beacuse I wouldn't agree, I even apologized. My gosh, they're not going to guilt trip/sucker me into that stupid interview s**t. So fine I'll be a b***h/diva/brat. Whatever, go screw yourself.

They are obviously being selfish in asking you to do that... in my mind there exists only one priority... and that is to yourself. I'm glad you didn't get suckered in, in the grand scheme of things, our PSAT and 5th hour stuff outweigh the others. Stay strong and stick with what you want to do. 3nodding

Invoking a guilt trip is no different than begging. The fact remains that they NEED you to do something... which means you have something to hold over them. Another option, is to manipulate the situation and get something out of it. twisted

EDIT: Teachers are no different than coworkers or friends. They can all be bent to your will if you have enough influence. twisted

While I'm actually expected to simply pick up for the slack? stare I think not, I'm starting to become more half a** when it comes to putting books away and with most of the jobs they give me. ninja Sloppy but not enough to look intentional. twisted More work for them.

Call me cynical but in my years there's always been one truism that stood out and it's that a "true good selfless deed" does not exist. People are selfish by nature and that's what makes them run. That's why true Communism (although awesome on paper doesn't workout in application) at the same time, true Democracy doesn't work either. As people, we are naturally greedy and selfish.

Those teachers (librarians, whatever) simply don't want to do their work. Not because they're lazy but because they know they don't have to. So why are you suffering for their sake? Everything we do can be broken down into a business transaction of costs and benefits. What do they get and what do you get.

When the costs exceed the benefits, get out of there. You're pulling a loss. In that sense, unless there's a beneficial reason (such as good resume/CV references from those people, etc.) than I can't see any benefit that can outweigh your costs of stress and PSAT risks.

The world isn't a fair place, believing in it won't make it so. Don't let people play you... play their game... but play better. Don't be afraid to look at people like rungs in a ladder, they're for you to step on. Take the first step and never look back. Cost vs. benefit analysis: simple economics... applied.

EDIT: Think of it this way, even Mother Theresa was selfish. She did what she did because she needed to be able to tell herself that she'd would have a spot in heaven. That was her ultimate payoff. As cold and insensitive as that may sound -- think about it, all selfless deeds bring some sort of enjoyment or happiness to the person doing it. If that's true, and I think it is, than real selflessness is actually covert selfishness. confused

Why don't you just glare back at them? eek Not necessarily to freak them out or anything but just to give them a taste of their own medicine. They'd probably realise how annoying it is and stop their jealous crusades.

I was in French and there's never enough seats in French. You think after 3 months of school my teacher would realize that. -.- But meh, I manage to get in and find a seat, or I would've if some guy didn't push me out and steal it. =_= Meh, I can stand up for myself, so I start kicking him then my teacher comes and it went something like this:
Teacher: I will not stand for this so get out.
Moi: Yeah Brandon.
Brandon: What are you talking about? I was here first!
Teacher: -insert my real name-, it's clear that Brandon was here first so get out.
Me: What? I was here first!
Teacher: -stare-
Me: Fine, fine. -leaves-
Bystander: But -insert my real name- was there first!
Teacher: No! I will not stand for anymore non-sense!
