Dawn held her hands to her mouth as her own tears began to form, but hers were tears of joy. She was so afriad that her impromptu pouncing of Theonis the day before had ruined everything. Now she was watching the beautiful "reunion" happen in front her.

After Leo called Trinity Mom, Dawn's hands went straight down to her heart and she made a quiet, "Awww."

She looked over to her own mother, hopped out of her chair, and threw her arms over Crystalion's shoulders. Dawn kissed her mother on the cheek and whimpered, "I love you so much, Mom. Please be extra safe. I don't think I could handle losing you again."

Ravan watched everything with a growing Tension. First Leo found the long desired love of his long dead mother, and then Dawn declared her love for her mother as well. It made Ravan sick to her stomach. There was an aching feeling in her shoulders and chest. The sick feeling in her stomach became an uncomfortable knot that went back up into her throat.

She didn't want to cry, she wanted to scream. Her best friends were both going to regain what they had lost. The memory of her own mother could barely be called whispers. They were more like a signal lost in a storm of white noise. There wasn't going to be teary eyed reunion for the petite survivor. All she had was the never ending ache of abandonment. Watching Leo and Dawn with their mothers made Ravan envious, frustrated, and resentful.

She grit her teeth and stormed toward the door with a seething, "Whatever. I just want to get this s**t over with."

She opened the door hard, and then slammed it shut behind her. After brief moment of silence there was a knock on the door follwed by an embarssed and muffled, "I don't know where to go."

Theresa stayed in step beside Theonis as they walked to the meeting area. There was one more thing she wanted to ask, though.

"Theonis. What's a 'promise'?" she asked with genuine child-like curiosity.

While being held, at first, Leo just stood there with wide glistening eyes. After a few seconds he nervously returned the embrace with a gentle hug of his own.

When she pat his head, and gave him permission to call her mom, that was when the levee broke. While he did not weep as openly as Ravan had the day before, he did cry freely and shook every few seconds. His grip tightened slightly, and sighed with a sort of content he had never before thought possible.

He saw the traces of her tears, and the sincerity of her eyes. He nodded his head and whispered, "I think I'd really like that.........Mom."

As he cried she tried to calm him by rubbing his back. Letting him know it was ok to let it out. She was a little worried he shook a little, wondering if he was having a seizure but was relieved when he sighed and whispered. Hearing him say it still felt a little foreign to her but she smiled back and nodded. “Good.”

She let go and pat his back. “Been wondering, what gifts do you have? Are they more like your father’s or mine?”

Instead of awaiting for his answer, her attention was drawn when Ravan spoke up and slammed the door. She shook her head, she couldn’t help but think it may have been something she would have done. She smirked and said to Leo, “Let’s go save the world.”

“Crystalian and Ravan are with me. Leo and Dawn will be on the defense if I’m not mistaken.” Trinity lead them to the defensive squads, ”Give’em hell!” Then there were three and they grouped up with the rest of their squad.

Legio was quiet drifting in the shadow realm. But he did keep a close eye on things. It wasn't hard for him to do. He had accepted Gidget's request. It would be interesting to see how they do things in a coordinated team. He had the memory's and skills of the soldiers he had consumed but still. Having to experience it first hand is always more valuable. And then there was the matter of the people from the alternate future. Oh what a treasure trove of information they had been. He emerged from the shadow in the corner just after the exchange of hugs.

He did not wear the same outfit. In fact he was wearing the same monk robes he had one when he talked to Gidget and Eclipse. They were comfortable despite them being his own biomatter. He was not part of the infiltration team however. Gidget wanted him for defense. That too would be a valuable experience.

"I do believe we are not yet complete Miss Smith."

"Ah....a promise is...basically saying that you will or will not do something. You would give your word. I know you can't actually give a word but it's just something we say." Theo explained as they walked." So promise me that you will listen to me okay?"

He then spotted Ravan.

"Good you're already here." He said to her." Let's go." He opened the door and entered only to see everyone already there. It seemed he was the one that was late. That rarely happens. His eyes rested on Trinity a bit longer than it did on the rest but that made sense. She hasn't even talked to him about the break up. He would talk to her after this was over.

Crystalion smiled at Trinity's decision to accept Leo as her kid. Sure it would be odd at first and Leo would know that this was not his actual mother. Still...the boy deserved it. And it's not like he would just replace the woman that raised her so easily like this. She wasn't worried. Crystalion kissed her daughter on the forehead. "I love you too sweetie. Don't worry. If I can handle 6 months of fighting the Behemoths and Titans I can handle normal sized baddies."

It was hard NOT to notice Ravan's response to it. Even now she felt alone. Poor thing. No matter what she could tell her, she wasn't sure if she could ever erase that feeling for her.

Shortly after she was reminded that Ravan definitely needed her by her side as she heard the muffled voice after the knock.

"Well..I do suppose that's everyone unless my mind is playing tricks on me."

"They're almost here, but it's nothing we can't handle with proper coordination. Fire and water teams, you're positioned on adjascent corners of the campus. Concentrate your powers on the center area between you at forty-five degrees, and about thirty feet off of the ground to create a conceilement of steam. That should keep them from getting a visual on us, and screw with any thermal imaging they may have."

Heather and the other fire metas followed their given directions and shot their flames toward the specified area to meet with the water metas streams.

Deora took another deep breath and focused her power. While she could draw moisture out of the air, it wouldn't be enough for this screen. It might even feed off it if she wasn't careful. She and the other water metas would need a ready source to pull from, so her first step was to prepare it. She set her feet, sensed out her target, and brought her hands up from her sides. A rumble emanated from the ground between the invaders and defenders as a water main rose through the dirt to rupture just above ground level. Water shot into the air so soak the ground, muddying the terrain to slow the invaders when they got to it, and supplying the defending metas with plenty of ammunition for the screen. Her next move was to join the other metas launching the water into the air to meet the streams of fire, covering the perimeter in a thick cloud of steam.

She'd certainly come a long way from vaporizing a puddle to cloud an alleyway to escape her tormentors.

Carak gave a passing response to every new person, choosing instead to focus on his person. That was, until Legio made himself present. The wolf-hound immediately tensed up, raised his hackles, and snarled at the creature that appeared as a person.

Rydia held onto his collar and snapped, "Easy! What's gotten into you?!"

She set her sights on the object of her companions ire and sized him up. Nothing that remarkable, but she Carak wasn't trained to notice outward threats.

The princess raised her eyepatch just long enough to glance at Legio with her infinite eye. What she saw caused her pupils to contract into slits and her own hair to friz up in an animalistic response.

"You...killed her. Yoooou DEVOURED HERRR!!!" she snarled in kind.

The wolf declared, "s**t, she knows! Damn that eye!"

She just hoped the others would try to hold her niece back before her host was forced to defend himself.

Her senses lost in a beastial rage, she had forgone her spirit in claws in favor of the claw-like nails at the tips of her fingers. She leaped for Legio with her teeth and nails bared, ready to rip him to shreds.

Gidget's eyes plastered themselves to the monitor as she watched Deora's unreal display of power and control. When she and Trinity found the girl a little over a month ago, the girl was barely able to control little more than a puddle.

Theonis had gone into great detail concerning the chat he had with the Ancient, Chinook. She was confident that Deora had been granted a boon as well.

Her attention then turned to the girl that was far and above producing more flame than the other fire metas. Heather's drastic increase in power had also happened in an instant.

The thought of their fate being determined with the aid of two girls not even old enough to drink made Gudget's heart heavy.

Her commiseration was quickly halted by a far away rumble followed by an ear piercing whistle.

"Incoming artillary fire!" she called into the radio.

No less than six dozen shells were hurtling toward the college campus, their trajectory made accurate by satelite recon.

"Rydia wait!" Theo shouted but couldn't react in time to stop her. Talk about bad timing. If she shouts it all out here then there's no telling what the others would do. What their future guests might do. They came here to get away from Legion. How would they respond if they would out it's spawn is in the same room?

Legio did not expect it but knew what to expect from the girl. However with his defense there was very little she could do.

"Now now, she attacked me and I defended myself. I know Cannibalism is frowned upon but that is the only way I can gain power and recover. Please don't call it devouring. It would give the rest the wrong idea about me. I am sorry it had to be that way. If I knew of a different way I would have taken it." Legio stated calmly as Rydia tickled and nibbled on him. That was the only damage she could do.

"We can talk about this later but right now there is something more important to focus on. I won't linger here. I know I am not welcome here with you around." Legio used his telekinesis to knock her out. He caught her and placed her on the ground. Afterwards he dropped through the shadow.

"I can do things peacefully you know. I know how much she means to you. You've already infected me too much"

Crystalion's form burst into light in response to the sudden commotion. It didn't take much to get her on guard again. It would take a long time for her to be able to fully relax. That wolf went off and she was ready. But did she hear that correctly? Devoured?!

"Devoured? What are you-?" She said before Legio explained it. She never knew of anyone who had that kind of power. Or rather she never met anyone. This timeline already drifted far from hers so it could be that there always was someone. She didn't even know who Rydia was or the one she was referring to. Her form became flesh once again but this didn't feel right. But surely they wouldn't leave someone who eats others to gain power walk freely in Valhalla if he were a bad guy right? Right?

Both Liv and Alexavier heard the radio.

Alexavier closed the book and tucked it in the back of his pants He was wearing his suit again. Ever since he picked it up with Annie he had been a fan of suits. "I suppose it's my turn now." He shot up and was ready to intercept.

"But what to do...what to do..." Alexavier mused to himself." Well...let's just have them detonate for now." He created several telekinetic walls in front of the shells for them to collide against. " This is gonna get boring fast..."

Ravan had suspended herself in midair in response to the growling dog. At first, Rydia's feeble attempt at mauling the new person in cloth made her giggle internally. Then she heard what he had to say. To her, there was only one sort of creature that could consume something to heal and get stronger.

She was so in her head with the realization that she just barely registered him sinking into his shadow.

She zipped to where he was just a second before and growled, "Sonova-!"

She beat at the ground uselessly with her small fists and then spun her head to Crystalion. "Didja hear that?! Didja see what he did?!"

She bolted back to her feet and frantically plead to anyone willing to listen, "The bio-beasts look like people here! We hafta kill it b'fore it infects anyone!" Her broken speach pattern was grtting worse the more worked up she got.

Theresa was not phased in the slightest. Theonis had told the lady with the fuzzy ears to stop. If that's what he wanted from a grown up, then Theresa figured it would be a good way to keep her promise.

She watched the angry little grownup yell and complain, but she didn't understand what the lady was talking about. She tugged on Theo's arm and asked, "Why is she mad? The quiet man didn't attack or hurt her."

The wolf mused "If you mean influenced, then I'd say it's for the better."

"And for the record, Freya tried to get you to walk away more than once. All she wanted was Eclipse. You were a persistant barrier that refused to budge."

Sure enough the shells exploded on impact with the psychic barrier. Their nearly tandem detonation rumbled the ground below them.

Colonel Nathaniel Strom watched the scene unfold through his binoculars. He lowered them from his eyes and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

He turned toward the representative from Daedalus and admitted, "You're right. They employed a psychic barrier against our initial bombardment. I hope you've got something good in your bag of unethical tricks."

The rep, a well groomed woman in a business suit who was going by the name Jane for the time being, shifted her glasses up the bridge of her nose and scoffed, "Please. While Agatha Morris has been playing nanny, we've been working on exploiting weaknesses to the most powerful metahumans."

She pressed a button on her personal, secured, cell phone and said, "Deploy the mind blowers, followed by rabid gophers"

A second salvo was launched into the sky, this time by Daedalus war machines. The warheads were armed with a device that resonates at the same frequency as the human mind, making them inert to telekinetic interferance.

At that same time, Daedalus' mass produced soldiers were approaching on the facility from underground using one man digging machines. Unlike the artillary, they were coming from all sides

Gidget watched as the second wave of artilary came. Her power worked overtime to determine why they would try the same attack.

"Psychics, the second salvo might be able to pierce your defences. Type 3 projectile metas move to intercept."

Her underground tremmor alerts rang out. She called out, "Interior teams, we have incoming subterranian enemies. Ragnarok protocols will be initiated, but it wont be ready before they breach. Hold the line. That wall will be the last thing they break."

Heather looked to the sky, but she couldn't see through the heat of the steam. Seeing that the rest of her team were looking up as well, she took the opportunity to let her dragon out a bit. After shedding some of her skin, Heather's draconic eyes saw beyond the human light spectrum and saw the second artillary wave. She breathed a ball of fire into her hand and threw it between them and the incoming shells.

"Aim behind the light!!!" she cried out.

Any metas within earshot of her began to throw everything they had at the attack.

"I do take a promise or deal seriously. But you will have your chance again. That I promised as well."

The impending conflict or chaos did stir something within him. He needed to be out there. Perhaps it was just the thrill of experiencing first hand something new.
He sensed the drilling teams. Legio could see them from the shadow realm as well. It was quite the sight. A slight grin appeared on his face. This...could be fun.

The tunnels were dark but there was light. With light...came shadow. He popped out of the shadow behind one of the leading parties. Grabbing hold of his leg quit firmly.

"I am afraid you are on private property. I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

"Another? Really?" Alexavier said as he reached out to destroy the shells. But...failed? That doesn't happen to him. Again! Failed. Again! Failed! AGAIN! FAILED.

His hair shifted to a dark red. Personality shifting. This was seriously pissing him of. No, it was already past that stadium. He was infuriated. Alexavier amped up his output far past what he normally uses. He let out a massive telekinetic blast.

Liv saw what happened or rather..what didn't happen to the second wave. Sure she saw the fire from her girl but not the explosions that should happen from Alexavier. From what she knew about the guy was that he isn't a teamplayer. More of a wildcard.

Guess she was up. Creating several orbs of light above her she lined them up with the shells. A brief use of the eyes of Infinity gave her all the info she needed. Bright golden colored lasers fired at the shells to intercept.

Trinity approached the unconscious Rydia kneeled and used smelling salts to wake her. Once her eyes opened she spoke, “Look, I know Legio may seem untrustworthy. I don’t trust him entirely either.”

She stood up, “But I do trust Gidget and considering she wanted me to kill him when he first hatched here. She wouldn’t place him here nor would she have him as part of our plan or make that decision lightly, if he put us in further danger. He agreed to help and though he had absorbed Freya which I found upsetting.”

“Yesterday, I was in the land of the dead, Freya told me she was in a sense alive within him. It is that reason I have hope that she is influencing him from within. I would trust him just enough to get the job done.”

She looked to Theo, “Despite it all we are going to have to depend on one another to survive. I’d rather have him fighting with us than against us.”

Hopefully that would calm everyone’s nerves.

Deora never thought she'd have to deal with an artillery attack. She didn't know what to do. As the first salvo impacted the psychic shields, she reflexively raised her arms to protect her head. When she lowered her arms again, she found a foot thick wall of ice protecting her. She hadn't even put conscious thought into it. She was wondering over this when the warning of the second salvo came.

Still unsure of how to deal with the incoming attack, she watched as Heather tossed up a fireball to help the other metas target the projectiles. Taking inspiration from her ice wall, she collected a good portion of the water spilling out from the water main and launched it into the air. She formed it into a barrage of ice spikes and balls to try and intercept the projectiles.

The combined efforts of Deora, Heather, Liv, and all the other projectile metas downed most of the projectiles. Alexavier's enormous display of power only scattered the remains of the disabled mind blowers across the county.

A single shell broke through their defenses. It was spinning to the ground eratically, having been knocked off course by an ice shard. It the far side of the fire meta group. The blast scattered asphalt, dust, and bodies toward the school. Heather, though on the opposite end of the blast, was thrown back by the concussive force. Her ears rang as she struggled to make the world stop spinning so she could stand up.

A few seconds later, the sound of helicoptor blades chopping at the air began to grow louder.

Underground, the soldier that had been grabbed by Legio looked down at the subject they had been warned about. With complete disregard for his own life, and without speaking a word, the mass produced soldier pulled both pins on a singularity grenade. Almost instantly, the soldier was pulled and squeezed into a black hole the size of a pjnball. The immense pull of the gravity well began to suck in everything within a 5 meter radius.

"Nani?!" the wolf cried out in response to the strange device that was threatening to pull her host in.

Gidget rushed to a standing position and watched the chaos unfold on the monitor. "no..." she whimpered in a hushded tone. Her mind raced as she fought back tears of anger and concern. She had a job to do.

"All outer defenses, fall back and return underground! Speedster recovery team, casualties in need of rescue at the fire team quadrant! Healers on standby at entry hall f2!
Psychic squad...Alexavier; they need cover, and we need their ground forces slowed down! Rip apart the campus if you have to!"

She switched her channel over to the secure infiltration team line and blurted out, "Guys things are getting bad in a hurry! Get in there and tear them apart from the inside!"

She switched back to the primary channel and swapped the console controls to her right arm. Whirled around and took Ako's hand and lead him toward her wall of power armor.

"Primary sequences were started when I said it was going to happen, but we'll have to start the final sequence manually."

Her suits slid and pivoted away on plates as a wall opened up behind them. An elevator was revealed with a single word written over the door in stenciled paint: RAGNAROK.

Rydia awoke with a start; her sensative nose reacted harshly to the smelling salts. Carak nuzzled and licked at her with concern.

"*hack* Ugh. *cough* Yeah- *gasp* where were you when I was flailing at him, huh? she snapped at her companion.

She heard Trinity's words, but they only served to stop Rydia from doing anything else rash at that moment. She was going to make that creature suffer for what he'd done to her Aunt.

The signal to execute came over the radio, and Rydia quickly snapped back into focus.

"Come." she grunted while hoisting herself back up. "Let's finish this"
