Rikki Tikki Travi Alec blinked a few times and tried to remember where he'd heard that name.
"You mean the kid that made Crosis freak out yesterday? I think he said Damien was soulless. That'd mean neither of us would be able to sense him this way."
"But, I've got a way to warn him before I release the death shroud. Whether or not he heeds the warning is up to him."
Alec released Kerana's hand and stepped back from their shared vision. He opened his hand upward and in front of his mouth. His eyes glowed as he exhaled slowly and produced an ethereal blue mist from his mouth. The mist took the shape of a ghostly raven and looked attentively to it's creator. …
"Damien, puer sine anima sunt, oportet monuit. Mors appropinquet, et fugere debemus." ….
The raven emitted a low gurgling croak and flew off to deliver it's omen. Alec took Kerana's hands again and explained, "You saw the raven, right? It's called a Close Call. It's basically that feeling you sometimes get when you know something bad is about to happen."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From a place unseen by those without a direct connection to life or death, the crow swiftly passed through walls and floors to deliver it's message of doom. Once it found Damien, it circled over his head and gave off a harsh, shrill warning call. Once it had said it's piece, the spectral raven returned to it's misty origins and dissipated to nothing.
Damien had been silently relishing in his mother's comfort when he felt something cause the hair on the back of his neck stand up. It wasn't a psychic reaction. It was something different. That, however, hardly mattered to him. What did matter was the sense of dread that came with the sensation.
He took hold of Cassandra's upper arms and broke the hug. He could feel the cold sweat begin to develop on his forehead as he suddenly uttered, "Mom, something's coming. Something really bad. I-we need to get out of here, now!"
Kerana nodded when he asked if that was the kid that made Crosis freak out. She grew worried hen Alec pointed out that neither of them have a way to sense him. She couldn’t help but wonder How could someone soulless care so much for other’s wellbeing? She stopped wondering when he said there may be a way he could warn him.
She watched him create a Close Call and send it to Damien. She was able to understand what he was saying to the blue whispy raven because of their mental connection. “ I hope he listens.”
With a better handle of her power she checked on Damien through the eyes and ears of his mother. When she saw he was heeding Alec’s warning she smiled. She noticed Damien seemed older but thought it best not to bring that up for the time being. It wasn’t farfetched that he somehow gotten older especially after the first couple of times meeting him. “Looks like they are getting out of there. What next? Do you need me to do anything else?”
Nova Blancke Alexavier sighed when they went to this mindscape. "You're too kind for your own good kid. I actually can't enjoy this now." He said as he looked around. This kid didn't want to kill the people that used him as a weapon. Stupid. "My movie knowledge isn't too great since I've only been alive for...a few months but you're the bad guy in this. And that never ends well in movies." He said as the rain poured down on them. **** Cassandra got the chills. She felt the hairs on her arm stand up right. But she wasn't the only one to feel it. Damian felt it too but it seemed to have affected him more. She nodded and took his hand. "Let's go." ***** Meanwhile the being known as Nero or Aqua to no problems with taking out the intruders that were near pipes or water. Her base was that of Annie after all. Those soldiers that visited the pools didn't last long. It would protect the people that lived in it. That needed the water to survive. Pressurized streams of water cut through soldiers like a hot knife through butter. Nero controlled the blood of other soldiers to have them take out each other.
The subject craned and cracked his neck. He smirked and said, "Maybe not, but in this movie...it doesn't exactly end well for the good guy either."
"Oh, also, I thought I'd go with the VG cut. But since it's just me here. Imma have to improvise."
He rose in the air with his hand out at his sides. The cityscape around them began to break apart slowly at first, but in no time the pieces flew toward the subject and wrapped around him while building outward. After only a matter of seconds. the subject had constructed a kaiju sized approximation of himself out of the building scraps he'd just collected.
"Game on." he drawled. With a speed unexpected from something his size, swung his foot forward in an attempt to punt Alexavier.
Damien swung his head around rapidly to see if there was a quick way out. Having not seen one, he quickly thought up a plan. It would be risky, but the alternative he felt was to come would be worse.
He grabbed hold of his mother in a tight embrace and whispered, "Trust me." Immediately after he said that, he silently prayed to whatever might be listening that his plan would work.
Utilizing both his accumulated knowledge of the human body, life, existence, and Alexavier's psychic power, he broke apart the very pieces that held himself and Cassandra together at the subatomic level. Their body's disintegrated from the outside in until there was nothing left.
But Damien held onto not only his consciousness, but he also maintained Cassandra's being while he moved their particles somewhere the danger would not be.
However, that alone took almost all of his effort. The rest of his energy was being spent reintegrating their body's outside of the Facility.
Organ's first, then skeleton, muscles, skin, hair, and clothes reassembled themselves only a few dozen feet from the Army command post. Colonel Strom watched stonefaced as two people came into existence before his eyes in spite of his shock and awe. His escort was quick to put themselves between him and the two metas, but there was no order to fire. The Colonel knew that given what he had seen from the facility's defenses they would've been killed well before he could even think of issuing an order.
The Daedalus representative, on the other hand, had no such self control and forethought.
"What are you meathead's doing?! Shoot them before they kill us."
"Hold your fire!!!" the colonel commanded with a heir that came from years of leadership. He spun on his heels to face the woman from Daedalus. She had a name, but he didn't care to remember it.
"Listen you. These soldiers take their order's from me and mine. Remember your place here and keep your gob shut."
Satisfied that the harpy would remain silent for as long as he needed, he broke though the line to address the newcomers. The representative, Elise, used the opportunity to shuffle back toward her briefcase in the event the metas attacked.
Damien blinked and looked around to find himself, and his mother, surrounded by a platoon of angry soldiers and one man in a beret.
"Uhhhh...weeee come in peace?" he joked awkwardly.
The colonel raised a brow, not at all amused.
Word of the water creature didn't take long to work it's way though the channels, but the intel they had received from their mole had warned them of the danger it posed. The portals closest to the pools began to produce cybernetic soldiers, more machine that man, that were armed with cryogenic rounds. They had no water based fluids, and their intelligence suggested that the water creature had no control over water in it's solid state.
Without regard to the soldier's that were under the control of the creature, they opened fire on anything that posed a threat. A few rounds of CO2 and the unfortunate soldier's fell to the ground and shattered. They methodically made there way toward the source of the water creature, all the while opening fire on any large portions of water.
Nova Blancke She quickly gave a thumbs up to Freya when the satellite exploded above them as Eclipse was looking away. Then Ravan was coming to. She helped her steady herself. Her question threw her off a bit. "I had to shield you didn't I?"
Ravan's eyes went wide with disappointment, sadness, rage, and shock. Was this woman really going to ignore what she'd done. Of course. Of course she is. Ravan had been around Liv long enough for her to say something, anything. But she'd rather pretend that everything was okay. Ravan couldn't remember who her mother was, so it was okay for the woman to just go on like she hadn't abandoned her child. Abandoned and replaced.
Ravan could feel tears building up in her eyes, but there was something else that threatened to boil over within her as well. It was a sharp pain at first, but it soon subsided and became more of a dull pressure. Her overwhelmed thoughts and emotions were becoming more intense and difficult to manage.
She didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to say. Her mind was going a hundred miles a minute. So she'd never felt that way before. It felt like she was falling all over again. So she did what she always does when she's beyond rational thought.
She lashed out.
Ravan dove at Crystalion and wrapped and dug her thin fingers around the woman's neck while bringing the gravity down on Liv ten fold. There were no words. What came from Ravan were the howls and cries of a wounded, angry animal.
Theresa was puzzled by his words. "Dad" didn't hold as much weight with her as it did Thea. And that other word, forgive, she didn't know what that word meant. She'd heard the doctor whisper it at himself sometimes, but never the same way Theonis just did.
The way he said it made her feel cold and heavy in her stomach. She didn't like it. From that she surmised that what he'd said would, or rather would never happen. was a bad thing.
Theresa saw what started to happen with the metal monster. She knew what was coming could kill them both if they stayed together. She didn't want Theonis to die. She had to make herself the bigger threat.
With determined eyes she looked to Theonis and commanded, "Use your special. Take away his air. Make him go to sleep."
After she stated her idea Theresa forcefully pushed herself out of Theonis' arms. On her way down she rose her right arm cannon and fired what was left of her space stone shots at the eyes of the giant creature. She hoped doing so would cause it to focus on her since she was actually capable of dealing damage to the thing.
Damien anxiously bit his bottom lip. The feat he had just accomplished nearly drained him of what power he had recovered from the single soldier he had consumed. There was no way he'd be able to put them back together if he tried again.
Colonel Strom studied the boy and the woman with him. He recognized her from the intelligence docket, but the boy had next to nothing on him to go along with what was an obviously outdated photo.
"The nearly invincible bruiser of the Gemini twins, and the wonder child that can correct metahuman abnormalities...so to speak. Son, I'm going to guess by the look on your face that you didn't mean to show up here."
Damien nodded cautiously. He couldn't get a read on any of the people around him. He figured they had something that could block his psychic powers within their headgear.
"And you, Ma'am, look about ready to turn my troop into chunks of blood, bone, and guts. From what I've read, that'd be about as easy as blinking for you."
"However, these weapons are loaded with rounds that are made to deal with the worst of what you people have to dish out. That being said, you'd sure as s**t kill a whole lot of us before we took you down. Now, you two haven't made any attempt to harm anyone here, so I'll extend the same courteousy so long as that doesn't change. The only thing I ask for is some answers, because the corporate shitbag behind me isn't offering any."
"You people have the power to level city blocks, change landscapes, kill people with but a thought, and now fire goddamn lasers from a floating fortress. But...no US soldiers aside from the chopper pilots that attacked the psychic Gemini have been directly targeted, collateral is obviously being minimized to great extent by whoever is in charge on your end, and the laser self detonated as soon as it accomplished it's mission."
"That fortress, and the people inside, have been on the defensive this whole time. Even with the likes of you in their ranks." he said while he looked directly as Cassandra.
"Between our intel, the events of the beach attack yesterday, and what's been happening today...there are a lot of things that aren't adding up. That sort of fuzzy math gets this old Colonel's hackles up. This is a long shot, but please tell me I'm not assaulting a facility full of noncombatants."
Damien looked to his mother, and then to the Colonel. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He knew that an attempt at diplomacy could save their lives, or end them. The problem was that he had no idea how to formulate an argument. All of his studies into history, art, and science, didn't include a course in debate. He hoped Cassandra might be able to pick up his slack.
"I'm afraid so Colonel. There are a lot of kids in there that just want to be alive and back with there parents."
The Colonel rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand and swore under his breath. His gaze went from the ground to the sky as he tried to find a solution to the problem that'd not only save countless lives, but keep his troop from ending up at Fort Leavenworth as they awaited trial for treason.
"And you, Cassandra, do you have anything to add to all of this?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The subject's giant scrap foot split apart at the point of impact and wrapped around Alexavier's arm. The rest of the leg followed in kind by encircling Alexavier like a rusted hamster ball. Then the rest of the metal that the subject had gathered wrapped around that ball and began to crush inward.
"Psych!" the subject cried out triumphantly. He'd hoped that Alexavier would be foolish enough to fall for a physical attack in a mental plane. There was only one muscle that mattered in that battle, and it was the one their powers stemmed from.
"Sorry man, but Imma have to lock you in your own head. The boss wants to see if he make another you without, y'know, making another me. Nothing personal." he drawled.
Looking down at the spherical metal cage, the subject reached forward and closed his fist. The ball tightened tightened further around Alexavier with immense pressure.
