Is rap music? Should rappers be allowed in this guild?

I really don't like rap. It's just like poetry with some weird sound effects. It just doesn't sound like music. I hate it. Or maybe thats because my bus driver always plays unkown rap music really loud... Anyway, just say your thoughts on it.

I think people just listen to it because they think it's "cool" or whatever.

you cant say the same thing about some of the mainstream rock out today?

I DETEST rap. With that said I think a lot of rappers have alot going for them. Eminem is exceptionally talented and is a good writer. I also appreciate the Beatie Boys and a few more, but I would NEVER buy anything rap OTHER THAN eminem.

Some rap music is highly offensive, but some is decent. There is a whole variety of different subjects when rapping. Rap is music, and rappers should deffinitely be allowed in this guild. I think people that play an instrument, sing, or write music in any way should be allowed in this guild. then again, I guess it isn't me who decides who does and and does not get i n... heart

All music styles are music, whether you like it or not. Try listening to what is called "contemporany" music. It's just plain noise to me, senseless notes, some sounds that just creep you out. There are people making music out of trash. And yet, it is considered to be the natural evolution of Classical Music.
Don't say rap isn't music just because you don't like it. You're entitled to like it or not, but it is defined as music - there is no arguing that.

And here I leave a request to the moderators - this is a senseless thread that has become a rap-bashing place. If it was "Do you like rap" I'd understand, but this...It's not nice. Please, do close it.

I also love debating. Specially when I'm right. rofl lol now, seriously though, it's one thing to say you don't like rap, or even that most rap is crap (it's true, as it is to many other styles), but it is music.
Besides, voice is an instrument, it doesn't matter how you use it: like Chester, screaming, like an Opera or classical singer, or like a rapper, using it as a rythm instrument. It's all music.

look int rap a little bit more than whatever happens to have guitars in it or happens to be on MTV then maybe your opinion will have some meaning. but until then you are like half of these people talking out of their a**.

i agree, this thread isn't really doing anything but showing how many closed minded people joined this guild and it's getting quite frustrating.

i didn't single you out. i disagreed, which i know you might hate but guess what? it happens, especially when YOU are singling out types of music and making rediculous claims about it. as if rock doesn't have it's bullshit. talking about murder and suicide and sex and drugs. yes that's right, rock does the same s**t only with your same old same old traditional formula of a band. god forbid anybody push the envalope or try to be innovative for once. what kind of s**t do you call music? classic rock? some complicated/difficult guy like joe satriani? or are you gonna have the nerve to throw a political band name at me?

it's a double standard, the only things rap has done wrong is

A: get more mainstream then rock
B: do something different (the style itself is innovative since the 80's)
C: come from a place where all expression is misunderstood and looked down on. god forbid anyone out of compton get rich or have thoughts huh?


you can sit up there on your highchair and b***h and think you know everything buddy but you don't know s**t. you've only seen the tip of the iceberg. you are the one hating on something you don't even have to listen to or watch.

stop forcing your beliefs and musical taste on other people.

and learn how to handle someone disagreeing with you because if you're just gonna cry every time someone has an opinion you wont make it far in life.

Exactly the point. You have every right to dislike rap. But you have no right to criticize those who do like rap, those who do rap. And you have no right to say they are wrong and that rap isn't music and rappers shouldn't be here. That is criticizing in the worst possible way.
