"Such power for one so small..." Evelyn said, amazed that anyone could control something as wild and powerful as the weather. It wasn't until after she said that she realized how that may sound.

"Not saying that you're too small or anything!" An embarassed blush crept to her cheeks. She decided to tell a little about herself to make up for her slip of the tongue.

"When reason I find all this so fascinating is because I was brought up around science and technology. Magic was only in fairy tales, ya know? Everything has always had a logical explanation." She brought her hand up to her eye. "I came here to learn control, but I'm learning so much more." Realizing where her hand was, she didn't want to dwell on the past, so in a smooth motion she brushed her hair behind her ear.

Evelyn's hand swept towards her eye/shoulder/hair. Jasper squeaked and took off before she was forcefully removed.

" Magic is something I'd not like to grow up away from. It's complicated and full of twists. But science... that'd be worse. I was lucky myself to grow up working for one of the most powerful men in industry, shipping and technology. I controlled his weather. '' she muttered the last part with disdain.

Fluttering at head level, Jas suddenly gasped.

'' I'm sorry, I have to go. I'm changing back.''

Sitting under a tree in the Courtyard, Shadow began to think about all of the good times he had had at the school back before he had left just a year agao. He thought about the friends he had made and the fights he had gotten into. THe laughing and the crying. He thought about everytihng about this place that had made him love livin.

He then remembered the woman that he had fallen inlove with and then how they had gotten married and lived a happy life together...that is, until she was taken from him by fate. and now he had nothing left to live for. Nothing at all...save watching out for Joy. Besides that, his only purpose was to kill every single person that got in his way. Everyone would pay for what happened To Kira. Everyone was to blame. He didn't care if only one man killed her while trying to rob their cozy little home. He had taken his revenge on that man...but that mans death could not calm his rage, everyone would know his pain and his sorrow...everyone....save Joy...and the strange girl that he had met a few hours before....

The six inch figure fluttered quickley to a nearby tree. She dodged leaves and branches, trying to get to a sturdy place before she changed again.

Seeing a wide branch just a few feet below her, Jasper darted through the greens.

She landed upon it just in time. A blue light enveloped her as her tiny feet touched the bark.

As one would expect, transforming from a six inch sprite to a woman, standing five feet and six inches was very painful. A sob came from the blinding light as she changed.

Then slowly, the light receded. Laying on the branches, a tear trailing down her cheek was a girl. Her long brown hair was tangled and full of leaves. She had pale silver eyes and inch long chrome fingernails.

The sky thundered ominously; almost as if in concern.

''No, no I'll be okay...'' she whispered to no one in perticular, but the thunder stopped as suddenly as it had started.

Shadow waslost in thought when all of a sudden there was a bright blue flash and out of it stepped a beautiful young woman. At first his hand strayed to the sword at his side but then he saaw that it was the girl that he had met a few hours ago and relaxed slightly. "where did you come from?" he asked softly as he looked her over and the looked around to see if anyone had noticed the flash of light or him for that matter. That was the last thing he wanted, everyone rushing up to him and asking how he was doing and such. He wished only to be alone, unless it was with this new girl.

He found it funny, since the death of Kari, he had never thought it possible to talk to another woman, and yet here he was doing just that, though he never thought much about it. All he cared about was looking after Joy. It was what he was fated to do and he knew that now and would do so no matter what and let nothing get in his way. However, he smiled slightly at her and waited for her to anwser.

Jasper wiped her eyes quickly, climbing down out of the tree. She straightened her hair out and smoothed her skirt nervously. Jas also was looking around to see if she had been spotted. The questions were something she was not prepared to deal with from a bunch of people at the moment.

" Shadow... '' she murmered softly, hugging him.

'' I...well I didn't come from anywhere. I was over there on the bench, but I was small.''

She did not reveal that she was finally able to change to sprite form when after only a short time, back into human. The sharp anguish cut deeply but with a self-admoniation she pushed the saddness down,

In a happier tone she asked, " So how are you?''

Jas' embrace cause Shadow to cringe a bit but he covered it before she could notice. He did not wish to hurt her feelings. He liked this girl she did not judge him and asked nothing of him as he did the same. She did however give him a bit of peace that he had not felt in many months.

"I'm ok. I've just been thinking about my past...and my future. But that is nothing that can be changed. Our fate is chosen for us before we are even born..." he said softly as he looked over at her and smiled again. "So how are you." he asked as he leaned back slightly against the tree and motioned for her to do the same. It was quite comfortable there and with a snap of his fingers, there was a pleasant breeze that gently wasped across the courtyard and dance through Japs' hair.

"Wait, Jasper!" But it was too late. Jasper had flown away for some reason. Change back...?

Her eye did catch enough to see the direction she had gone. Evelyn stood up, ready to follow but she hesitated. Maybe Jasper didn't want to be followed.

Unsure of what to do, Evelyn sat back down and thought about what Jasper said. I guess she feels about magic how I feel about science...

Jasper took a seat by him on the ground, caressing the wind and sending it on it's way.

" Fate? Sure, your course is set, but don't forget everything needs balance to exist. To oppose balance is Free will. They can co-exist with each other, defining one and other. Like night and day. Within fate lies freewill. You can choose to follow the course or set your own. Fate will always provide a destination.

But myself? Oh nothing much, just enjoying my freedom.''

Jasper flicked a stray leaf from Shadow's hair, her face illuminating with a child-like smile.

Shadow thought about Jaspers words before responding. "This may be true for a human...but I am nothing of the sort. I am something else...I'm not sure what. At one point I was a wolf..I know this to be truth. But then I was human...or so I tohught. But even then I was fooled. I was a Lullaby. An elemental god of sorts. And even after that, I gave up my wolfish life and tried to live the life of a man, but that was cruelly taken from me. I am neither god, nor wolf, nor human..I am natures rejected child. She could not figure out what to do with me so she cast me to the wind and let it decide were I should fit in. The only thing I know is that inorder for me to survive, I must protect Joy...otherwise, I'll die. Being away from her for a year has changed me., I'm not the same man I was last year, if you knew me then you too would see it." Shadow replied softly, his voice full of pain and sorrow.

Shadow looked Jasper over with saddened eyes and smiled. "I am useless to everyone...yet this rage inside of me refuses to let me die. Because death would bring such peace to my life, but that cannot be, not until my destiny is fulfilled." he said softly as he grasped Jaspers hand lightly in his as she brushed a stray leaf from his long black hair. "But for some reason, you bring me that peace that I long for out of death. I don't know why or even pretend to understand it...you just do. My sould is calm and my rage ceased in your presence."

Shepard cheeks also turned a bit pink. " Hello Kisa. Those are nice paintings." he said smiling. He gave her a small thumbs up and wink. Gordon does it but Shepard didn't have that effect he did.

Her eyes filled with sadness at his words.

''No,'' she said fiercely, grasping his hand, looking with darkening eyes into his, '' Nature does not reject her children. She created you from her own and she'd not abandon you, even if you were to abandon her. ''

Jasper's eyes glowed with stubborn resolve, '' This is something you can trust me on. I am not human. I'm a Storm Sprite, Shadow. I am nature. As close as any being can be to Rhea, our mother earth. ''

She leaned in, brushing his dark hair away from his ear. Jasper then said in a fierce whisper, full of emphasis.

''And I do not reject you!''

Shadow dropped his gaze from Jasper to the ground. He knew that what she said was true but in his heart, he could not accept it. Sometihng inside of him refused to allow him to come to that peace. "I know what you are saying. And I thank you for your kind words. I am glad that I have found someone that also understands what I go through...but why. All I do is destroy." He said sadly as he stood.

"This is all I can do." he said as he brought his hands together and then closed his eye. "Nonin gaugye." he whispered and out of the sky and funnel cloud shout to the ground and was then engulfed in flames. The moment it touched down, the dry ground was set ablaze, but Shadow waved his hand quickly and a strong breeze swept over the courtyard and the flame was put out before anything was severely damaged. He then bowed to the tornado that was raging in place and it dissapated.

"See, my powers bring onm destruction. I have killed more men then I could ever count. and the rage inside will never be satisfied with them. I must continue to kill." he said sadly. "But I know that this is not what I want to do...I just don't know how to stop." he told her as he sat back down next to her and took her hand once more. "I'm sorry."

''I think you've hit it right on the head. You don't know another way. But never forget what I said about free will.''

With a flick of her wrist, Jasper also made fire engulf the courtyard, roaring with menace. But in the same motion it shrunk to the palm on her hand, crackling with brilliance. Then she called upon the winds. But she did not make a large tornado. That would be disaster; tornadoes do not easily bend to her will. Jasper instead madea tiny wind funnel, directing it to blow the leaves off the pathes of the court.

''You see, you can use it for good as well! Give fire to those who need it; call upon wind for a stranded sailboat. Whatever satisfation you get from killing...'' she trailed off for a moment, recalling the person who'd given her this very speech when she was younger.

'' Whatever satisfation; you get so much more from life than from death. The feeling itself, the reward of saving others, is satisfiying down to the very core of your soul.''

Shelaned at head against his shoulder, not knowing what else she could say to make him see.
