I suppose I'll finally introduce myself smile I'm going to university for music and have started getting into world music and ethnomusicology. I've been playing cello (my main instrument) for 13 years, but I was also a vocal major (soprano) for 3 years before I transferred schools. I've been studying Korean music for the last 2 years and bought a haegeum (like the Chinese erhu) this summer. I've been teaching cello, voice and piano for a few years now, and my cello professor has me writing exercises for our studio class. Also, I started taking composition lessons a few years ago, but that's not going so hot at the moment.

Well, a bit about myself?

My name is Jesse, I am 20 years old.

A list of what I play:

Violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano (and all form of key instruments), all percussion instruments (including a drum set), electric guitar, bass guitar, and can sing.

I write music as well, from classical, to jazz, blues, punk, techno, metal, hip hop and everything inbetween and have participated in all of the above bands, some playing multiple instruments.

My favorite classical composer, by far, is Wolfgang Amadaeus Mozart. I feel he far exceeds most other composer from any other musical period of time.

I'm a pianist/organist. I fiddle with guitar a bit.

I teach private lessons, play for church/school/weddings, etc.

Currently my favorite group I'm accompanying is a 16-voice adult choir. We're working up a Christmas program including some William Billings works and "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Harry Simeone.

Favorite composers (at the moment) are Brahms and Bach.

Um, hi. I play 1st chair violin in my school orchestra and chamber orchestra. On my own, I play the cello (I actually prefer it). I live in the suburbs of NY with not many out-of-school opportunities, but that didn't stop me from getting into the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Orchestra program : D!

Yeah, so that's basically it. I REALLY want to pick up a cello again, considering I had to give it up over the summer -_-;;

Vivaldi ftw :3

I play French horn in my high school band, and I'm first chair. I also taught myself clarinet, flute, trumpet, and I'm getting ready to learn cello... Hopefully. biggrin

I also am organizing a wedding and gathering a group to play at it.

My favorite composers at the moment are Saint-Saëns and Liszt.

Well hi. I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

I've played clarinet for quite a while now. Hopefully next year, I will be studying music at university. I can play most instruments by ear.

The favourite composers are Rachmaninoff, Dahl and Stravinsky however I also deviate to different music such as progressive rock, free jazz and harsh noise.

My school is not musical in anyway so now I play with the Grainger Wind Symphony.

I also tutor guitar to some people however most end up leaving after a year because they've gained perfect pitch under my unconventional ways of teaching (therefore tell me they don't need me anymore crying ).

Ohh. I wish you could teach me, I want perfect pitch sooo bad. crying I guess it's just something not everyone has...

Anyhow, I'm Jiji, I'm 14 and from NY but I go to boarding school in Connecticut. Generally my musical tastes take after whatever the head of the music department wherever I am (school, music camp) so right now I like Handel and Mozart and Holst, but at music camp Prokofiev, Dvorak, and Brahms are more popular. I also happen to lovelovelovelovelovelovelove Beethoven. I read his Heiligenstadt Testament this morning, and it made me want to go back to 1802 and give him a big hug. heart

Oh...I play flute, by the way. XD I don't consider myself that great, I started three years ago, but maybe this is just because I hang around really really really good flautists. At music camp (full of insanely skilled people that I wish I could be like) I was second to last chair in concert band (next to the cutest guy-flutist ((it rhymes!)) in the world!! And also who already had a girlfriend at the camp...with whom he was very...physical. o.O) But at the school concert band I'm second/third to first. Which I find strange, by the way. o.O I mean, there weren't even any auditions or anything, they kinda just...put me there after one rehearsal. Weird, right? And then in orchestra I'm last chair, because it's arranged by age. stare Even though I know for a fact that I am better than the guy flutist (not so cute, though) I sit next to. Also, that puts me next to our crap french horn (he's horrible, it's not just the bad tendencies of horns ((no offense, horns!)) it's just that he is not at all good at it.) But I'll deal.

HOW do you teach people so they end up with perfect pitch?? O_O;

I have it myself, but when people ask me how I know the pitches, I don't know how to answer them. It's like...asking me why blue is blue, lol.

Hello!

I'm Dani. I'm 17 and from Britain, although I am currently living in New Zealand. I've been singing, with formal tuition, for about 4-5 years. I'm a classical vocalist (soprano), and my second love is the violin. Although I haven't been playing the violin for a terribly long time and really do wish I could do the instrument more justice. I was a cellist some years ago and am hoping to take it up again. ^_^

I am not in any string ensembles, and though I am -technically- in the school choir, I hesitate to call it such because the standard is not high and we rarely do performances. Performances are most often solo. >_<
I am just about to go into my last year of college music, and am part of a university 'gifted performers' programme type thing.

I love and adore classical music. My favourite composers are probably Mozart, Schubert, Puccini, Chopin and Rachmaninov. Though I tend to fly into a wild obsession with most new pieces I hear. Still, Mozart was my first love. ^_^

Well like I said. It was unconvention, even I wasn't aware of it. Somehow I think tuning guitar strings actually can give you perfect pitch. I'm sure most string players and singers can also agree because they have pitch their notes all the time. Anyone who gains this skill can play any instrument almost automatically (provided they also have the technique)

Huh, that does ring a bell. Most string players I've talked to at school have absolute pitch, but singers...not so much. Most of the singers I've worked with are relative pitch, and if they have to sing a note that's not in the accompaniment, they must have that part really solid in their mind.

On an unrelated note...does your user name translate into "That is my hamburger"?

@Eleanore: Hi! Coincidentally, one of the starter NPC's in zOMG is also named Dani, so your name caught my attention. XD
