Honorifics.
Ani or nii-san/chan/kun: Term for elder brother. Ane or nee-chan: Term for elder sister. Imouto: Younger sister. Otouto: Younger brother. [[ Note: Not sure if that's spelt correctly. ]]
-san: (eg. t0sh-san.) This is the most common honorific, as it is equivalent to Mr., Miss, Ms., etc. It is the all-pupose honorific and can be used in any situation where politness is required.
-sama: A higher level then 'san'. It is used to confer great respect.
-dono: This comes from the word 'tono', which means 'lord'. It is an even higher level than 'sama', and confers utmost respect.
-kun: This suffix is used at the end of boy's names, to express familiarity or endearment. It is also sometimes used be men among friends, or when addressing someone younger or of a lower station.
-chan: This is used to express endearment, mostly toward girls. It is also used for little boys, pets, and even amongst lovers. It gives a sense of childish cuteness.
sempai: This title suggests that the adressee is one's 'senior' in a group or organization. It is most often used in a school setting, where underclassmen refer ro their upperclassmen as 'sempai'. Ut can be used in the workplace, such as when a newer employee addresses an employee who has seniority in the company.
kohai: The oposite of 'sempai'.
bozu: This is an imformal was to refer to a boy; similar to the English term 'kid' or 'squirt'.
Sensei: This is used for teachers, doctors, or masters of any proffession or art.
[blank]: (eg. just Minielf, without the san or anything.) Usually forgotten in these lists, but perhaps the most significant difference between Japanese and English. The lack of honorific means that the speaker has permission to address the person in a very intimate way. Usually, only family, or spouses, or very close friends have this kind of permission. Known as 'yobisute', it can be very gratifying when someone has earnes the intimacy starts to call one by one's name without and honorific. But when intmacy hasn't been earned, it can also be very insulting.

@Toki: Yeah, my dad said "Go, go! Have fun! Blablabla!" You never know when you can meet more bitchy girls... ninja ESPECIALLY, in a beauty pageant. I told my father "Okaaaay... I'll go if you... ; buy me a dress, buy me nice sandals, buy me new makeup, pay for my new hairdo, pay for a manicure too!" I was sure he would say no because he's sooooo STINGY. Surprinsingly, he said "okay." eek Now, it made me have second thoughts... All those things I can't afford... But, my dad would pay for them... heart _ heart
