The spirit (in Alec's body) smiled kindly at Kerana and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"You need not worry so, young one. His heart remains as pure as always. The birds were a rash decision. He is young, and still learning. The spirits will forgive him with time."
"I understand you plight, Kerana. Yet, you were not present during the event in question. Alec was not entirely to blame for the incident. I was there as well, helping him come to a conclusion. It was not a decision he made without thought, young fox-kin. He questioned her thoroughly, looking for every reason not to suspect the woman. He wanted to believe that Nova was wrong, but her scent was unnatural. Parts of her story did not add up. Our instincts told us she was a threat. At that moment, we felt it was the best course of action."
"Try seeing it from his point of view. The last time he was fooled by a complete stranger, he ignored and then attack you. And, considering our opposition, the odds of an undead woman actually dying of being stabbed by a small knife are almost nil."
"The necromancer is clever, and is doing whatever he can to drive a wedge between us. He will play on our weaknesses, even the ones we interpret as virtues, to attain his goals. Though Alec did not intend to kill the woman, that is what you interpreted. "
"I am not saying you are wrong to feel as you do, but I implore you to not let the Necromancer's manipulations cause you to see Alec differently. Your kind and trusting nature is a virtue, but it can be turned against you as well."

Kerana breathed deeply, she felt a little comforted with Zephyr's words and a little relieved when he mentioned that Alec would be forgiven in time. She looked to the ground as he continued to justify Alec's actions. "Please stop. Talking about this right now will not change how I feel about the situation. Neither you nor Alec will be able to resolve this with words. Just as the spirits will forgive him in time, I need time as well."
