Just thought I'd tell more movie news while I'm on.

Rumors said that the Dragonball movie was canaled, but that's not true. Sources say that the film has been completed and is in the touch up work in special effects.

The new Bond film has had it's US release date pushed back a week.

here's one for the geeks.

Wrath of the Lich King Trailer

A cinematic trailer for the next World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has been released. But what the hell has this got to do with movies? Well, in 2006 Legendary Pictures (the production company behind 300, The Dark Knight, Watchmen and Ninja Assassin) teamed up with Blizzard and announced their intentions to make a live-action World of Warcraft movie. However, since then we haven’t heard anything about it. On August 2nd the status on it’s IMDB page was updated to ‘Pre-Production’ but there have been no official announcements. So far it looks like the planned 2009 release date will not be met, however if the movie ends up looking anything like the trailer below, it could be epic.

Superman Reboot Confirmed. DC Getting Darker!

A few days ago it was reported that Man of Steel, the sequel to Superman Returns, was not going anywhere over at Warner Bros. Today we have a new development. Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman.

Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes — known as “Batman vs. Superman” — after the $215 million “Superman Returns,” which had disappointing box-office returns, didn’t please executives. “‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009,” he adds. “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.”

The article goes on to talk about other DC properties Warner Bros will be developing.

With “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League” stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. “Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own,” Mr. Robinov says.

Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

I didn’t see Superman Returns because it didn’t appeal to me, so I am up for Warner Bros rebooting Superman and making him darker, as that seems to be the way forward with comic book movies. The announcement that Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the rest will also be dark is good news, although when I first read it I was rather disturbed that they are aiming for darkness with all of them. Does a comic book movie need to be dark, serious and depressing to be considered good?

(PS. It’s a good job Brandon Routh has managed to get other acting gigs, otherwise he would have been screwed)

Michael Keaton In Toy Story 3

Michael Keaton has joined the cast of Toy Story 3, and will play Ken (as in Barbie’s boyfriend Ken). Jodi Benson also told IESB that she will be back to voice Barbi, although the two dolls will not kiss during the film, but they will embrace. (I also suspect Ken will get a sneaky squeeze)

Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) wrote the treatment and Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) wrote the screenplay. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger, and Jodi Benson are all confirmed to return and the movie will be released in 3D June 2010

Warner Bros Suing Over ‘Hari Puttar’ Film

Warner Bros. have filed a lawsuit against Mirchi Movies in Mumbai as they feel the title of its upcoming movie, Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors, is a tad too similar to its Harry Potter franchise.

“We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled ‘Hari Puttar,’ ” London-based Warners spokeswoman Deborah Lincoln told The Hollywood Reporter. “Warner Bros. values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation.”

“Since the case is sub-judice we can’t comment as of now,” Mirchi Movies CEO Munish Purii said Friday. “However, we registered the ‘Hari Puttar’ title in 2005 and it’s unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film’s release. In my opinion, I don’t think our title has any similarity or links with ‘Harry Potter.’ “

I don’t see how a relatively small comedy film all the way in India will have an impact on Warner Bros’ billion dollar franchise. However, having having read ‘Hari Puttar’ out loud three times it does sound a lot like ‘Harry Potter’.

Danny Elfman Scoring The Wolfman

AICN received a phone call from someone at Universal who told them that Danny Elfman, composer of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Wanted and Spider-Man, will be composing the score for The Wolfman.

The movie is set in Victorian England and has a cast consisting of Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins. From the Comic Con footage that has now been removed from the face of the internet, the movie looks dark and Gothic, so we can expect that sort of tone with the music. I think in a movie like The Wolfman the music is vital, as it helps create the atmosphere. We can’t have the Wolfman ripping people to shreds with a merry tune in the background. It has to be dark and vicious!

And in Batman 3, who would you like to see as Catwoman? Angelina Jolie or Cher?
filmonic.com

Cher As Catwoman?

Some crazy rumor has been whipping around that Cher, who is best known for having plastic surgery and being old, will play Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s follow up to The Dark Knight, or Batman 3 as some like to call it. This bullcrap comes courtesy of The Telegraph:

A studio executive said: “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.

“The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

Well Film School Rejects must have had a slow news day, as they decided to follow up this bull by contacting Cher’s agent.

“I would LOVE nothing more than for Cher to play Catwoman,” said her manager Risa Shapiro in this morning’s phone interview. “She’d be great. She’s one of the most extraordinary women anyone could ever meet. But I haven’t received any phone call about this, and hadn’t even heard about it. I think I’ll call Chris Nolan and find out what’s going on.”

I suspect Nolan will reveal to her agent that this is just a dumbass rumor, he hasn’t even started writing the script, no casting will be done for at least a year and Catwoman won’t even be in the next film.

There you go.

Forgot to say, I saw Hellboy 2 this evening! And I LOVED it! Was so funny. There were 4 of us and we were giggling through the whole thing. I was on the end of us four, sitting nect to this amazing older couple. Legends, they are. At the point which I think was the funniest (I'm not going to spolit it) I had tears rolling down my cheeks and the 6 of us (my and friends plus the couple next to me) were the only ones laughing. Or the only ones being nosiey about it.

Was great!

I hate when people like that come to our theater. Because then, everyone complains about them and I have to go and get on to them or kick them out. But I'm glad you got to enjoy the movie. I'm normaly like that when I see a movie.

We weren't speaking throught it, just laughing at the funny bits, when you're meant to laugh.

Purely based on the actors going to be in it The Wolfman sounds really cool.

And I agree with the person saying do all comic films now need to be 'dark and edgy?' I added the edgy, but you know what I mean. Bring back fun, cheese and "holey rusted metal Batman!" "what?" "This island. It's made of metal and full of holes...you know, holey."

Ok, some more movie news.

A doctor in the house?

Doctor Who Movie?

Doctor Who has been a ratings winner ever since it was rebooted in 2005. However, the BBC are now planning to make four specials in place of a full season. Does this mean Doctor Who is running out of steam? Well according to head writer Steven Moffat (who turned down writing the script for Steven Spielberg’s Tintin trilogy to work on Doctor Who) the doctor hasn’t finished yet, as a movie could be on the cards.

…as long as it never gets in the way of the show. It would be great to see it at the cinema. It’s been there before so it would be good to see it again. A movie is 90 minutes, that’s not that different from making a single episode, so I’m not against it.”

I would be interested in seeing a movie. I wouldn’t call myself an avid Doctor Who fan however I watch it now and again. It is cheesy British sci-fi at it’s best, so why not make it into a movie?

Want $11 Million? Fall Out Of A Truck!

Here’s some more bad news for Tom Cruise and his upcoming Valkyrie movie. 11 extras fell out of a moving truck during filming in Berlin last year, and are now trying to sue United Artists for $11 million.

The accident happened almost exactly one year ago and saw all 11, still wearing their Wehrmacht uniforms, sent to the hospital with an array of injuries, ranging from bumps and bruises to broken ribs and pulled ligaments. One extra was kept in the hospital for four days on suspicion of internal injuries.

The actors fell onto the street when a fold-down side-rail on the bed of the truck — against which the thespians were leaning — failed. The group’s lawyer, Ariane Bluttner, says that United Studios knew that the trucks used in the filming were not entirely safe.

“The studio knew the trucks were rickety,” Bluttner told SPIEGEL ONLINE. “There had even been an internal memo about the railings.”

This would be devastating for United Artists, as Valkyrie probably won’t even make $11 million in it’s opening weekend. Although, I highly doubt a couple of bruises and a few pulled muscles is worth $1 million for each extra. If I was thrown from a truck I would just demand Tom Cruise perform the ‘Scientology Dance of Life’ to the tune of Milkshake by Kelis. That’ll teach em to keep their trucks safe and secure!

More Batman 3 rumors.

Batman 3 Depends On Nolan

Everyone wants and expects another Batman after the greatness that was The Dark Knight, however director Christopher Nolan is not the sort of director who just does things for the money. He has said a number of times that he would only do another film if he had a story to tell (which many believe he has). However, both him and writer David Goyer intended to make The Dark Knight a standalone film, so that there would be no loose ends should a third movie never come.

Well, buried at the end of The Hollywood Reporter’s article on the marketing of The Dark Knight is a small update on the status of a third Batman film:

Warners and Legendary are both interested in doing a third in the series, but all involved say it will be up to Nolan to come to them with a story and a plan.

“There are a lot of us who emotionally would love to do it,” Roven says. “But it’s really Chris’ call. Chris is the kind of filmmaker who just doesn’t think about the next movie before he has completely finished the movie he is working on.”

For now, Nolan is taking a well-earned vacation. Says Roven, “When he comes back, we will see how he feels.”

If I were Nolan I wouldn’t rush myself. After Batman Begins Nolan took time out from the Batman world and made The Prestige. I think he should do the same this time by making another movie over the course of 2009 and then start working on the third Batman film for 2011

John Noble Wouldn’t Return For The Hobbit

Actor John Noble, who played Denethor in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, has told MTV that he would not be interested in returning to play his character in The Hobbit. No way, no how, no McCain!

If they said, ‘Would you come and play Denethor again,’” Noble said, “I would have to say, ‘No, I’m doing [new J.J. Abrams television series] ‘Fringe’! And I certainly couldn’t play a younger Denethor or even Echelion now that I’m an older John. Not even with makeup.”

“I do wish them the best of luck, however,” he added. “There’s tremendous fan interest in ‘The Hobbit.’ But ‘Lord of the Rings’ was so special, you could tell even when you were working on it, that it was just so good, and sometimes, you just want to leave that in a special place somehow.”

It’s a good job Denethor doesn’t appear in the books otherwise Guillermo del Toro would have had to recast. Gasp!

More on the Warner/Fox lawsuit

Don’t Mess With Watchmen Fans

When it was revealed that Fox were taking legal action against Warner Bros over Zack Snyder’s Watchmen I was pretty annoyed, and I haven’t even read the graphic novel. So I can only image how pi**ed of the hardcore Watchmen fans were. Well now I don’t have to imagine, because one particular fan is taking action:

A 20-year-old orange county man, Wyatt Barlup, wants to mobilize California locals to help him picket at FOX headquarters. He’s putting out a call to war and wants to lead an army of enraged comics fans to get FOX off Warner Bros. back. Interested protestors can contact Wyatt at: downwithfox@yahoo.com and join his campaign.

ComicBookMovie got the chance to interview him, and if I were Fox I would be shaking in my boots!

CBM: What exactly are you planning on doing?

Wyatt: If I get enough support, I would like to go picket Fox Studios and even perhaps the local Wolverine opening night. Aside form that I want to cover up all Fox movie posters with signs that read: Who Watches the Watchmen?

CBM: What would you tell the Fox execs if you could get a meeting with them?

Wyatt: They have no idea who they a f**king with. Watchmen fans are not regular comic fans. We’re f**king crazy. There will be retaliations if they keep this nonsense up. Also I would say that they had there chance and blew it. Stop being assholes and give the people what the want. They have a chance to look like the good guys if they just pull out now and say sorry.

The only problem with planning to protest at the opening of X-Men Origins: Wolverine is that it comes out three months after Watchmen. By that time fans such as Wyatt Barlup will have probably seen the film and will have hopefully got over it. Maybe they could protest Fox’s Babylon A.D this weekend or The Day the Earth Stood Still in December. It will have more of an impact.

Want To Be In Spider-Man 4? Head Over To eBay!

Along with jars of fresh air and peoples virginity, you can now buy yourself a walk on role in Spider-Man 4. From /Film

Sony is auctioning off a visit to the set of Spider-Man 4 (Location of visit will be determined by Sony Pictures based on scheduling of visit) that would include a meet and greet with the cast (this is where I expected the disclaimer “Cast will be determined by Sony Pictures based on who is willing to come back after we finish the script”) , a walk-on/extra role in the film, a trip to the New York premiere and more.

So we now know the movie is happening otherwise Sony wouldn’t be doing this. Although the small print states that if it doesn’t work out:

“Sony Pictures will provide alternative set visits/premieres based on the provider’s availability”

So if Tobey Maguire and friends return you may get to meet them. However, if they don’t return you will get to meet the new cast (yay!). Although, you could end up visiting the set of another movie entirely. This just screams lawsuit. Happy bidding

Bryce Dallas Howard And Sam Raimi Talk Spider-Man 4

With the recent eBay auction it is safe to say Spider-Man 4 will be happening, with or without the original cast. Actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who played Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man 3 and will be seen in Terminator Salvation, told MTV that she would be interested in returning if the script required it.

“You know, honestly, I would love to be apart of any continuation of the franchise. But, I also really understand that there’s so many different story lines that the fans are really excited to see, and the studio, and the producers, and the filmmakers really need to appease everyone,” the actress said. “Whether or not Gwen Stacy comes back, I mean, I wish it was up to me, but it’s not. But yes, if they’d call me, I’d be there in a heart beat.”

Meanwhile, director Sam Raimi is still not telling anyone what role he will play in the next film.

“Oh, I love ‘Spider-Man,’ definitely. I would love to play a part in ‘Spider-Man 4,” he said chuckling.

The part of director? Writer? Something else?

“No, I mean play the part of ‘Spider-Man 4.’ Are you kidding me? I’ll wear the suit,” he laughed.

Very funny Mr. Raimi. Although we’d prefer it if you JUST TELL US IF YOU ARE DIRECTING OR NOT!!!

Also, the new Prince of Persia movie has had pics released from it at this site. Pics

Now, the important news.

Mark Millar Proposing ‘Lord of the Rings-like’ Superman Trilogy

Mark Millar recently spoke to G4 about his proposed Superman movie which has an unknown American director attached. We learned a week or two ago that Warner Bros were planning a Superman reboot and now Millar has pitched his idea to them in the hope it will get made. If the studio decides to go with his vision, they’d like to be shooting by next summer:

“I’ve had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year.” Millar said.

And now, TNMT news.
filmonic.com
Imagi And Warner Bros In Talks To Develop Live-Action TMNT Movie

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman has confirmed on HeavyMetal.com that Imagi and Warner Bros. are in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters.

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better “re-invention” (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT’s, in a live action film–like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc…there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original “first” TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right–but no official word yet…will keep you posted. Best, Kevin

Is this good news? Should we be excited? Or should the TMNT stay in cartoon/CGI form?

Ok. things that just tick me off about movies. When a book is turn into a movie, they always omit a character or two, they leave out the best scenes, and they change characters too much. You all know I've been keeping up with the new Dragonball Movie, and knew they were going to screw it up, and they didn't let us down. They screwed it up. I got some screen shots from the trailer that is suppose to premiere on the Max Payne Movie (which looks really good by the way), and let me say it, I'm very disappointed.

filmonic.com
Sam Raimi And Tobey Maguire Officially Back For Spider-Man 4?

According to Deadline Hollywood both Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire will be back for Spider-Man 4.

I’m told that both star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi will be returning to make Zodiac screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt’s script of Spider-Man 4.

There’s no deal yet for Kirsten Dunst but Mary Jane Watson will be in the movie again. I’m told Sony “would never recast her” despite her rehab problems.

They also say that Sony are trying to figure out whether they can shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 back to back, and we also have our first hint at which villain may be appearing.

I’m also told that, right now, the studio is trying to figure out if it can feasibly shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 at the same time because doing that is so cost effective and “it wasn’t so easy to get everybody back together”.

I am told that “once you find out who the villain is, you’ll know who’s playing it.” That should lead to speculation that Dylan Baker’s character of Dr. Curt Connors will ultimately turn into The Lizard as he did in the comic books.

Even though Spider-Man 3 didn’t live up to expectations, I am glad more movies are in the works. If Deadline Hollywood are right and Raimi and Tobey are returning then that is a good thing in my book. I’m not sure I couldn’t image someone else playing Spider-Man at this point in time.

Would you prefer Tobey and friends to return or would you prefer a total recast?
I think that might be a good thing.

Ok, been a while since I posted any news worth movie news, but heres some everyone may or may not like, depending on your personality.

Here's the first look of Johny Deep in his Mad Hatter costume for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. eek Freaky?

As for Alice in Wonderland, there was a rumor a while back that it was being shot in 3D, but it seems that this is not the case. 2D it is.

With Wolverine coming out in 09, and Magneto in the works, it seems that fox is pushing as many X-Men movies as they can before they lose the copyrights. Now, they are green lighting a new one called X-Men: New Class. Josh Schwartz (Created Gossip Girls, Producer of "The O.C." and "Chuck" ) is writing the script now. It is to feature the mutants Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat. He is working with producer Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men 1, 2, & 3, X-Men: Wolverine, Mr. & Mrs Smith).

Another Nutty Professor is in the works, but so far, no Eddy Murphy.

And finally, old school anime fans beware, Warner Bros. is developing a script for Robotech. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Spiderman 2, Smallvile, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) are the ones writing the script. NOt sure how this will turn out.
