Freya stood silent for a moment as she also felt the tension in the room. When Liam posed his question, she turned her head toward him and blinked a few times. A few seconds of silence passed, and then her cheeks filled with a stifled laugh.
"PFT!"
She covered her mouth and took a few deep breaths. With a smile, she unhooked her pinky and used the same hand to tap the crease of his brow gently. She stuck her tongue out cutely and taunted, "Sorry, but the moment's passed. For now."
She put her hand back down and thought for a moment. "I don't know if it's because I'm really vulnerable right now, but I really can't deny it anymore. I...like you, Liam. I don't know if I'll ever be able to say much more than that, but I do get a weird feeling when other women look at you. I think I still need more time. So don't expect much from me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heather smiled and relaxed into her seat. "What's up is I needed to hear your voice as soon as possible. You remember the a*****e I work with that tried to take you to dinner? Well he-"
The sounds of a muffled scream, breaking glass, crunching metal, and screeching wheels burst through the receiver of Liv's phone. They were followed by an unintelligible gaggle of yelling voices. The only thing that could be understood was something about a phone. There was a loud thud, and then silence.
Liam looked into her eyes for a few seconds before she laughed and let go of him. It was...cute what she did. He sighed and chuckled a bit.
"I suppose you are right"
But the words she said next, were the ones he wanted to hear. He really could not help but smile upon hearing them. His hair color shifted between a blonde and light pink between settling on white again. He didn't notice. It just felt liberating and amazing hear her say it.
"You know how I feel about you. I have only grown to like you more over the last two months" Liam intentionally did not say love, as that is quite heavy for her." I will wait, give you time and space. The only thing I expect is for you to continue eating my food. Speaking of which, Lasagna tonight. Is that alright?"
Liv was poking Mr.Bojangles's toebeans as Heather spoke.
"Uhuh, yeah" Reflectively she pulled the phone away from her ear as the noise hit. But quickly put it back.
"Heather?! Heather, what hap-" She managed to say before it was cut off. It didn't sound like a simple car crash. Those voices...Leaping off of the bed, scaring the cat in the process. Blinking to the rooftop of Valhalla. If there was anything she had learned in the past two months training with Freya who she refused to call Sensei, is that you must think fast on your feet and be adaptable.
Quickly sending a text message to Gidget. "Heather's car crashed. Where?!" Activating her evolved Infinity Eyes, she scanned the horizon for anything out of the ordinary such as smoke. She would have preferred to use the eyes inside of the Light Realm to see where she could see herself teleport an injured Heather back but it could take too long. It could also lead her to a place where Heather would be but currently isn't.
She felt herself get angry. Someone targeted her girlfriend. That someone would regret it.
Rikki Tikki Travi The DSV slowly approached a metal structure that had the name "Crescent Moon" adorned on its side. The C in the first was, in fact, a crescent moon decal. "This is it. We'll be getting off here. I'm the only one that can open it safely."Rydia and Ravan climbed into their bulky and heavy atmospheric diving suits. Although these had been improved by Gidget, they were told to still use the upmost caution when exploring. A catastrophic loss of pressure would cause the suit to implode on itself and crush the diver. Once the two of them were set, they disembarked and slowly approached the wall. Rydia was forced to use propulsion bursts, but Ravan freely floated around. "You don't have to show off, Ravan." Rydia scolded."I'm not! I'm just having fun!" she replied with glee."Be careful! We don't know what's down here." Sara was relieved when Rydia reassured that she would not be affected by what the fish in the area have been affected by.
As Rydia and Ravan got out with their suits, Sara couldn’t help but remember the moment the meteor struck her.
flashback She was scuba diving taking a closer look at the aquatic life on a coral reef. Granted she wasn’t as deep as they are nor was her suit was as bulky or heavy as their’s. She was looking at an anemones near by when she was thrusted downward rendering her unconscious when she woke up she saw the sun from under water. She panicked knowing she needed to get to the surface or she would… drown? She didn’t have her oxygen but she found she was breathing okay? Not too far from her she saw a glowing meteor that dimmed out. What?! What happened to me? She remembered hearing recently a story of an undead an angel that happened years ago that some say was caused by a meteor shower. Her dark eyes looked to her now blue webbed hands. She felt her neck finding where her gills were. Then she found she did not have hair but a wide head. It was at this point she felt she could not go back to the surface. She had to forget about attending college to major in marine biology. She had her heart set on becoming a marine biologist. At the time she thought any chance of living her life as a human was over. It took some time but someone heard her woes through her thoughts. You don’t have to face this alone… she looked around and found there was a woman with green eyes in a scuba suit with strands of purple hair. Rikki Tikki Travi Rydia approached the "C" of the word Crescent Moon. A panel slid open for her to place her palm on. Gidget had foreseen this, and had the suit's finger tips match Rydia's prints. Success. Another panel opened for a retinal scan. Gidget's planning once again came trough. Success. Finally, a panel revealed a speaker and said in Elvin, "Speak the password."Rydia replied, "It was you who broke my mason plate."
Rydia had expected there to be a sudden pull as the hanger fill with water, but she was surprised to see that it was already filled. The culprit was an enormous hole on the opposite side.
"Girls, I don't want to alarm you, but we may not be alone in here. Stay frosty."The ship was covered in a metallic steel blue paint from point to point. It had a very basic design with four large engines on one end and a viewport at the front. Another "Crescent Moon" logo was on the side that faced them, as was the door to the airlock. "Just a moment, I'll get the door open."Ravan floated around to see if there was any trouble. When she was confident, she floated over to Sara.
"Isn't this place amazing! Its like something out of one of those Stars War movies so many of the boys wont shut up about. Are you okay? You look worried." Sara followed the girls and snickered as they quibbled. She watched as the Rydia brought up the panel she wondered what kind of technology her people had that could withstand such depths and worked perfectly fine. As the doors open and they entered, Sara was also surpised that they weren't pulled in and she also took a similar note at the big hole. She could sense a presence near but could not pinpoint its exact location.
There is something here, Ravan. I can sense it near by but I don't know its exact location. We just need to stay close to one another. Sara tried to see if she had some form of echo-location with her telepathy.
"So long as there's some sort of meat in there. In all honesty, I'm too emotionally wiped to argue one way or the other. I do know one thing, though. I need to get to a stylist and ******** my hair. Slicing hair off with a blade doesn't work like it does in cartoons, so it probably looks like s**t. Huh...never really cared before now."
She walked toward the door and opened it. She was about to step through when she halted an turned her head slightly back to Liam. "...Thank you."
She did expand on why she thanked him. She just walked through the door and left toward the facility stylists.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gidget quickly replied back with:
"I-44 and Kellen underpass. First Responders in route. Cameras on site showed a hit and run. Heather is still in the limo."
The scene from outside the limo was not too different from any collision. Heather's limo had been T-boned by a U-Haul truck and folded the luxury vehicle. The driver was unconscious, and Heather was fighting for her life.
A motorized garrot had been placed around her neck. The small motor whirred as it fought to tighten the wire against Heather's scales. She gagged and clawed at her neck, but the steel wire was too embedded and strong to be cut by her claws. The scales had bought her precious seconds, but they already began to crack under the pressure of the deadly gadget. She knew it would not stop until it had taken off her head.
Her skin was starting to turn blue from a lack of oxygen, and the whites of her eyes became blood from the blood vessels in them bursting from the strain. Her mind screamed out in terror and agony as her thoughts focused on Liv and how she would react.
She started to see stars as her brain fought to keep her conscious. For just a moment, she thought she could see Liv.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Sara's clicks hit the environment around her, it stirred something that had been sleeping restlessly on the opposite side of the ship's hull. It's natural camouflage melted away as it's tentacles uncoiled and it's bio-luminescent eyes opened. It slithered across the top of the ship and made itself visible to anyone looking toward it.
At first glance, it looked like a massive octopus or a squid, but there were things about it's anatomy that were wrong. There were too many tentacles with suckers that had not hooks but pincers within each one. It's head swiveled independently from the mass of writhing appendages as it had what could be described as a stocky neck. A ghastly maw opened from just below it's eyes to reveal several rows of what had to be dozens of teeth. Anyone familiar with mythology would have a single word come to mind.
Kraken.
Rydia continued to work at the door, oblivious to the horror just above her.
Ravan's sensitivity to gravity allowed her to feel the shift in the water. She turned around and went completely still. It wasn't just that it was an enormous cephalopod that scared her so much. Her traumatized mind immediately saw the creature as one of the many bio-beasts she had fought and killed. She turned the lights of her suit off. Her eyes became cold, and her mental voice dripped with murderous intent.
"Sara, I need to know right now if that thing is dangerous. 'Cuz I'm about to lose my s**t in a few seconds."
The creatures thoughts echoed.
Hunger. Pain. Feed.
Liv checked her phone as it pinged and she wasted little time making her way over there. Eyes still active. She paused involuntarily upon seeing Heather. Still alive, good. But that thing around her neck was choking her. Wasting no time she teleported it off of Heather's neck and onto the ground next to her. Before she would have teleported Heather away but she didn't know if she was injured and it could be worse if she did. Dropping to one knee she put on hand on Heather's shoulder. Looking her over, her heart was beating faster. Did she make the right choice?
"Hey. hey, baby, talk to me. Heather, I'm here. It's alright."
"A little" Liam responded to her hair comment. As she left he watched her leave. He could swear there was a saying for this situation. But it did not surface in his mind. Why say thank you?
But when she was gone, Liam took a deep breath and let himself fall onto the couch face first. Face buried into a pillow. It was the only way for him to his this big smile that didn't seem to want to go away along with the fluttering in his heart.
Without resistance, the device quickly wound down until there was no more wire to wind. Blood seeped between the scales around Heather's neck. Had Liv arrived a few seconds later she would have arrived to find Heather without a head.
She gagged and choked as she tried to get any breath at all. It hurt. Coughing hurt. Breathing hurt. Trying to talk hurt, but she had to warn Liv. She grunted hard with each attempt at a word.
"Set...up! Am...bush!" she finally managed to croak out between coughing fits.
Sure enough, an M67 fragmentation grenade bounced and rolled toward the open passenger door. It stopped with the girls well within it's kill radius. Heather's eyes went wide as she looked down at the thing and screamed silently.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Freya leaned against the wall just outside of Liam's door. She put her hands to her chest and let out a slow breath. So many emotions in such a short window had exhausted her. It was time to relax.
Freya took out her phone and speed dialed Willadene Nation. "'Sup hayseed. Yeah, I'm hanging in there. Thanks for asking. Say, would you wanna hit up the salon today? I kinda ******** up my hair and it needs to be fixed. With a kodachi. It's blade that's just a bit bigger than a tanto. Look, I'll tell you all about Japanese weapons in a bit, just meet me at the salon, okay?. Alright, thanks."
With a huff she pushed herself off of the wall and started toward the salon.

Ambush?
Seeing Heather's face in fear as she scream. Everything went in slomo. A side effect of her power flaring up.
Turning her head she saw the grenade roll towards them. Her Infinity Eyes flaring full force. Within instances of seconds she saw what would happen to them.
Come on, move. Do something!!
The grenade flared up with a bright light before vanishing. Her gaze move in one sweeping motion. Locating 2 people. The moment she spotted them, like Cyclops, fired her laser eyes at them. They wouldn't go past them, not like before. She had gotten a good handle on her strength.
Liam laid there for a while. That feeling in his stomach would not go away. She had accepted him! Finally accepted her own feelings. He knew from what he was told that this is the time to be even more patient. But if he kept on feeling like this, that would be hard. He wanted to hold her even more now. To run his fingers through her hair, To breathe in her scent, to...to,...
Liam got off from the couch and took a deep breath. Trying to focus on it. Which didn't work. So he decided to go for a cold shower, something he had heard could sometimes remedy this strange longing.

BeaMichelle Theresa turned and smiled. She then remembered that this mission was important so she straightened up and tried her best to look professional. She put her heels together and saluted as she often saw the security guards do.
"Reporting for duty, ma'am. Gidget told me that I'm here to listen to you, watch your back and not kill anyone."
The little bit of herself that was Chariot could not help but get one fun question out of the way. "Oh, since this is an official mission do we get code names? Can I be agent Giraffe?" Trinity nodded her with a smirk, appreciating the enthusiasm, “At ease soldier.” she said light-heartedly. Then she listened to her request for a specific code name. “I’ll talk to Gidget regarding that for the next mission. I’m afraid the one you have is ‘the big gun’ to change it halfway through may confuse other parties that may be involved if necessary.” “From what I’ve gathered everything looked normal except for this one room I couldn’t see it not even from the Shadow Realm. Like there’s a missing room. Every time I came close to it I felt…” looking at her hand remembering a certain month without shadow, “drained of my power” lowered her head and closing her hand letting out a sigh. She was not looking forward to this even though she has prepped for such an occasion, even more so right after that month. “Regardless, that's likely where they are keeping the weapons, and that’s where I’ll place these cameras.” Like a magic trick, she revealed she had mini cameras between her fingers. Then with another wave they were gone. These were cameras that happened to not be needed in a previous mission. “If I don’t come back in an hour might need reinforcements. I’ll be going dark so you won’t be able to contact me. Wish me luck.” She dropped in her shadow. “Sill, I’m afraid we may end up getting disconnected. I got this.” She proceeded to observe from the shadows.

A bit later, a text was sent to Liam's phone. It was from Willa.
"Freya got her hair fixed up. I know this is preaching to the choir at this point, but make sure you make her feel good about her style choice. It's called a wolf cut! I didn't even know that was a thing!"
Not wanting to be alone, Freya returned to Liam's door and knocked. "Hey, it's me. Hair's fixed...I guess."
The sensation of having so much less hair was stranger to her. Her neck felt cold and her head lighter. She cursed at herself for being so self conscious about her appearance. It felt so juvenile to her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The grenade reappeared a few dozen feet behind the limo and immediately detonated. The vehicle was peppered with dangerous, but not deadly, shrapnel.
The two people were knocked back by the force of her light, but it did not burn them. Their body armor was plated with polished metal.
A second team of two peaked out from cover and both shot rounds from a pair of M79 grenade launchers.
As they flew toward the besieged women, heather could feel her internal temperature rising. Her inner dragon had had enough, and she completely agreed. She shifted her position with Liv and extended her left arm. As she did it became engulfed in flames. From the fire burst forth her full sized dragon arm. She opened the palm of her massive hand and blocked the high explosive rounds. The blast impacted her bones so hard that it made her teeth raddle.
She breathed with both relief and shock. She had only managed to pull off a full dragon single limb shift one other time, and it had tired her out more than a normal transformation. At that time, though, she was angry enough to not notice.
Heather croaked, "Need...to run, or...I'll burn...everything!"
She was not exaggerating. The ambient temperature around her had already begun to rise past an uncomfortable degree.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sill scoffed, "They can try, but unless they know how...damnit. This has my brothers meddling stench all over it. If he has fed these people information then we need to be especially careful."
The camera's display was fuzzy, but visible enough to make out what was in the room. There was a lift that led to the ground floor. It was wide enough to fit one fork lift and a few walk on passengers. The room itself was loaded with steel shelves that had wooden crates on most of them. The wood had the party company's logo painted on them.
No one was in the room at the moment, and over three quarters of the shelves were empty.

Liam's phone pinged on the counter of his kitchen while he was still in the shower. Time had passed him by. It was hard for him to stop thinking. It was something he was used to doing. Something he always did. His heightened sense did hear the knock over the shower. The voice was a bit muffled but his psychic abilities detected Freya. Unlocking the door with his telekinesis, he turned off the faucet.
"Come on in, I was taking a shower. Seems time slipped away from me. I should really give you a key to make things easier." He said sending his thoughts to Freya.
Wringing out his long hair he stepped out of the shower. Looking into the mirror it was difficult to recognize the man he saw. One so....unstable due to emotions. But it was a given seeing as in the past few months, he noticed his emotional side growing as opposed to his logic. Wrapping the towel around his waist he took one last look at himself before using Anne's power to remove the excess water.
"Make yourself at home." Liam said as he left the bathroom. He felt slightly more conscious about being seen by her but still not enough to suddenly be shy to being seen. Selecting his clothes, he took a step back and got changed.
Stepping into the room, wearing casual jeans and a blue blouse.
"Sorry, Id...' He said before his gaze fell upon Freya. On her face, on her...shorter hair. Blinking a few times as he fully took in her new look, he responded with a smile.
"That...looks good on you, Freya. Really good"
Liv was...confused. Her lasers weren't full force but to knock them back instead of cleaving straight through them? What the ******** were they wearing? With the cover granted by Heather's dragon arm, she looked around.
Looking at Heather, who seemed to be tethering on the edge of erupting, she nodded.
"Got it."
With that she teleported them out, along with the driver. It'd be a shame for him to get caught up in all of this. It didn't take much for Liv to send the driver to the infirmary while staying in the Light Realm with her girl.
"Alright girl, chill..cool off a bit. We're fine here."

Freya blushed and hugged herself while one hand went to tuck some hair behind her nonexistent ear. She looked away and muttered, "Thanks."
A moment of heavy silence filled the room. Since the cat was out of the bag, Freya had no idea what to do. Being mad at Liam all the time was easy. What she felt for him was a lot more difficult. Plus it did not help that she liked the way he smelled. Before she could bring up anything else, though, she did need one thing from ********. It takes a lot for me to admit that I need help, but I do. I promised Mom that I would try to be better to myself. Willa pointed me in the direction of an alcoholics support group here, but I don't think it'll be enough. I know you'll probably say yes, because that's the kind of guy you are, but I need to make sure. Will you..."
She sighed an looked him in the eyes. She stated plainly, "Will you help me stay clean?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heather huffed as the spikes on her back bore through her jacket and released steam safely away from Liv. Her arm and hand shrunk down to normal size as the large scales gave way to her humanoid sized ones. She spoke with anger and pain in her breath.
"It was him! I know it was, and she ******** helped him!"
She put her fingers to her neck and felt the sting of where the device had nearly decapitated her. She felt the drying blood and splintered scales. It would leave a scar. That added another layer to her building fury.
"I think something big is about to happen, Liv. They knew enough about us to attack and defend with things that countered out powers."
Cute
Liam did notice the silence like before. Again he was not sure on how to proceed. Luckily for him, Freya broke the silence.
He responded to her call for help with the only way he knew how. By accepting.
"Of course Freya." He said with a gentle smile and a softer tone. The sound of glass bottles were heard from the kitchen drawer before vanishing. There used to be wine bottles in his kitchen. No longer as he pulled them into the Shadow Realm.
"Don't get too angry at me when I keep you from drinking." Liam said trying to make the air around them a bit more light-hearted, extending his hand to her.
"Deal?"
Liv looked over her girlfriend as she ranted in anger. Seeing her trace her neck. The adrenaline was still pumping through her veins but this moment of respite was enough to properly look. She almost lost Heather if she were a few moments slower. Reaching out with her hands she gently traced the injury around Heathers neck before pulling her in close and giving a tight hug.
"They hurt you..almost...." Her voice cracked.
Taking a deep breath, her tone changed as she spoke her next words and the Light Realm seemed to respond with a pulse of golden red light instead of the usual gold color.
Pulling back, she cupped Heathers face and looked at her.
"Let's meet up with Gidget...and if ...no..WHEN we find him...I will ******** tear him apart."
Her mind heard the hunger part loud and clear. The maw snapped once more and the mer-meta bolted out of the hole it made. It could probably see the bright orange thing that moved more clearly than anything in the room.
She felt awful abandoning Ravan and Rydia I’m not built for this. How could I have think I could do this?! How could anyone believe in me of all people?
Freya chuckled and looked down at his hand. On any other occasion she would smack his hand away in a moment of anger. That time she reach her hand out, but she did not take it. Instead, she put the back of her hand against his.
"I'll try, but no promises. I was a pain in the a** before the alcohol. I don't plan on being any less of one." she said jokingly.
With that she brushed the back of her hand against his and linked her pinky finger with his. She stared at the gesture for a moment and said nothing.
"Um..." she stammered, "...so, what do we do now?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While Heather was in Liv's embrace, the gravity of her near death experience hit her like a ton of bricks. She hugged Liv just as tightly and began to cry tears of relief.
She looked back at Liv and sniffled. She wiped her face with the arm that still had a sleeve and shook her head. She took Liv's hands into her own and replied, "She knows. So do Trinity and Theonis. Vera Claiborne was the one who called me back. That's how they knew where I'd be. They may have destroyed my phone, but I still have Dad's."
She reached into a hidden pocket in her blazer and pulled out the phone Charles had left her. It had the names, numbers, and addresses of everyone on the board of directors.
"I don't think she wants me dead. Odds are pretty good that ******** is at her house and threatened her. We should try there first."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The beast's eyes followed Sara's bright scales and gave chase. Fortunately, due to it's massive size, it did not move or maneuver nearly as well as she could. That did not mean it was not hot on her tailfin. It righted itself and began to glide through the water as a squid would.
Ravan watched in shock as everything happened. At first, she was incredibly angry at Sara for diving out like that, but then she remembered that Sara is not a fighter. She had never squared up against something so daunting. Ravan remembered how she would run during the years she was alone.
She also realized that the monster was in pursuit of her best friend. That made her even more angry. She used her powers in conjunction with the suits propulsion system to give chase to the beast.
Meanwhile, Rydia had just gotten the latch open. "There we go! Alright girls, let's get this party started."
There was no reply.
"...girls? Hello?"
The kraken chased Sara through the sunken ruins of the once great civilization. It's cephalopod body allowed it to squeeze through spaces that would be impossible for something with a complex skeletal structure.
Ravan was loosing pace. The opposing force of the water made it difficult for her to use her gravity powers to their fullest. She was used to flying in the air.
She mentally called out to Sara, "Sara! Try to bring it to me! I can kill it!"
