User Image Risa watched him, not liking him one bit. "No, we don't always get what we want. And sometimes what we want, we have, and then it is taken from us." She responded to his comment about flying. "And I am not your dear. I may be your prisoner, but I do not belong to you." Risa shut up for a while, realizing she seemed to be saying too much around him, mostly due to her dislike of him. She didn't understand why and silently cursed herself for being so stupid. She should have stuck to the plan of not talking from the beginning, yelling at herself for being such a fool. At his mention of harships, Risa just rolled her eyes, and laughed a little, but in a self derisive way. "You have no idea," she muttered, almost impossible to here.

She paled at the mention of siblings, again getting angry at herself. Unable to help herself, she snarled, "You aren't the one I need to worry about harming my bro..." Risa didn't know her face could get any paler and she looked at him terrified. This time she knew that she said too much, and pulled the blanket closer to her, suddenly chilled. If that man found out what she had already said, he would kill Anthony for sure, without thinking twice about it. Before she could stop herself, tears started rolling down her cheek. "Why couldn't you just leave me alone!?" she cried. Somehow, he was the only one who had figured out which questions to ask and what to say to get the answers he wanted. Or maybe he was just lucky as Risa was at her breaking point, and she curled her legs in, hiding her tears in her legs.

She almost missed the part about him being the Prince, the King's son and that made her cry even harder as she listened to him talk, though she was not really understanding anything after the 'You know my father .... the King' part. This soldier, the son of the man she had tried to kill, wanted information, and somehow he was getting it from her. She didn't even hear the part that they would release her if she promised to never go near the King again. But even if she had, it wouldn't have done her any good as she would have to go after his father again until Anthony was free or confirmed dead.

He watched as she snapped back at him and listened as she seemed to be referencing the fact he would not get what he wanted either. She was also strong willed enough to snap back at his attempts of being polite. He kept quiet as he watched the battle in her head, and how she lowered he defenses a little bit when he had mentioned hardships. She seemed to at least be in agreement of his basic observations.

And then she let something slip. Apparently there was somebody who was being threatened in the situation. Someone that was not directly her, and if he had to guess, it was probably someone very close to her. He did not react in his expression to this new enlightenment that he now had observed. He left her be as he saw the fright cross her face, and then she began to cry in front of him, and yelled at him to leave.

Trion watched the poor girl, clearly at a battle in which she had no friends, nobody to whom she believed she could trust. It seemed his fathers suspicions were correct. She was clearly being forced to do this, and against her will at that. "Who is at risk of being harmed?" He asked in a calm, caring manner. He wanted to figure out this girl, and he needed to make her think like her was looking out for her. At this point he may actually have been doing so, if he could figure out who was threatening his father, he could eliminate them, and set this girl free. "Maybe I can help you. Maybe we can set you free."

User Image Risa shook her head, not wanting to talk to him, but realizing she had already said too much. For all she knew, Anthony was already dead, and she couldn't do anything to protect him. Risa withdrew into herself, giving up. It no longer mattered what she told him, as she already lost. If Anthony wasn't dead already, he would be soon and it would all be her fault. She would live for the rest of her life knowing that she wasn't strong enough to keep quite and keep her brother safe. But then again, her life may be short lived in punishment for her crimes. Perhaps that punishment would be a blessing in disguise. She didn't even know the man's name, the one who took her brother and made her try to kill the king. She only knew what he looked like.

Risa had stopped crying, but a dead look entered her eyes, and she stared at him blankly, numbly answering his question as her mind went back into memories. She had not awareness of the present. "It doesn't matter. My brother Anthony is probably already dead at this point. I failed to kill the king, and now I've told you too much. I'm sorry I cannot help you more. I do not know the name of the man who kidnapped Anthony, nor do I know where he lives. I remember a car nearly running me over, men coming out and grabbing me, saying that they will kill my brother if I fight. I was blindfolded and taken to a really nice house. It had a lot of red velvet in it. The man came out, he had Anthony with him, and had a gun pointed to his head. Anthony was crying. He said he had a job for me and that he would return Anthony when it was done. If I failed and told anyone, he would kill Anthony."

Risa paused for a few minutes, still not seeing him or anything around her. She forgot where she was, who she was with, and didn't even realize she was talking. "He was an older man, with eyes that were small and almost black. He kind of looked like a beast, getting ready to attack his prey. He was probably only a few inches taller than me, and his hair was a dirty red color. He kind of hissed when he talked." Risa hadn't known how well she had remembered how the man looked like, and as she had fallen back to memories, she was telling Trion all the details, having no idea she may have been helping him without even knowing he was there. "He never told me his name and just told me to kill the king and my brother would be returned to me. Then someone knocked me out and I found myself near the palace. I snuck in, pretending to be a helper, everyone was busy and didn't notice me. I snuck into a study and saw the king alone. ... I failed ... now Anthony is dead." Risa trailed off, her eyes still not focusing on anything around her and she just stared at the wall, completely oblivious to the world around her.

((I'm debating whether is would be more interesting to have Anthony die or be rescued))

And so the truth came out.

Trion watched her intently, emotionless expression on his face as she talked about her brother being in danger. He tried to envision the scene in which she had been given her assignment of trying to assassinate the king. The place she described did not necessarily ring any bells for him, all it did was show that whomever had kidnapped her and her brother, was someone of extreme wealth.

Clearly whoever this person was though was someone of power. The only reason he could think someone would want his father dead was to move themselves up the line of succession. Though were they to kill his father then he would be the one put on the throne. If ruling would be the true idea for the person, then he would also be on their list for assassination, though he probably focused on one at a time.

He stayed quiet though as she described the man, it was nobody who was familiar to him. He assumed though that were there to ever be a situation where a wealthy patron tried to assassinate the King, he would hire someone else to do the killing. Trion tried to follow the process of this person and realized they must have been using this young woman, in hopes it would seem like a minor uprising, and not a well trained assassin hired by someone in power.

Every one of these thoughts concerned Trion, and he needed to know as much as he could, and to get this he needed to befriend this young woman. "You brother may yet be alive." Trion said to her in a very calm voice, trying to relax her in some way, seeing as she was clearly in a vulnerable position. "Nobody but me and a select few guards know this assassination attempt even happened. We have kept in on the quiet so that nobody would panic over the King's safety, and so people would not think our defenses of my father have troubled anyone still." If this person though was as determined as he thought, they may actually have some sort of informant in the castle.

He came up with an idea though, but it would require trust from Risa, and if he could not gain that they would not be able to go through with it. "Did the man give you a time limit?" He asked, though now sounding as if he was slightly afraid. "If you work with me here we may be able to save your brother Risa. I see you do not have a hateful bone in your body, and I wish to help you." He said, hoping she understood his sincerity. Though in all honesty he was more concerned about saving his family than hers, but they needed to work together were they to really accomplish this goal.

User Image Risa shook her head. Somehow she didn't think that her little brother was alive. The man said he would be keeping a close eye on her and would know if she failed and talked. He hinted at having someone in the palace watching, but someone who couldn't act. She sighed, still staring at him blankly. This prince didn't know what she was caught in. She just remembered the man's intense hatred for the King and his family. "He hates you." she murmured, "And we suffer because of that hatred." She tried to shake herself out of her daze, but she was struggling. She just wanted to sleep and never wake up. "He knows everything. He told me." She still didn't realize that she was speaking her thoughts allowed and that the prince was doing everything to understand her somewhat incoherent ramblings.

Risa looked up, seeming to realize for a second that he was still there, but not really understanding his words. There was no way that Anthony was still alive. She failed ... she had talked ... Anthony was dead. He asked about a time limit and she tried to focus, shaking her head no, but she wasn't sure. She knew that he wanted it done soon, or Anthony died, but then again Anthony was probably already dead. She placed her heads on her head, trying to focus. Everything was confusing and she couldn't even understand herself anymore. Isolation and fear seemed to be taking its toll on her, and she wondered if she was starting to go mad. It would suit her right to go crazy, a good punishment for not being able to protect her little brother.

Trion was talking about working with him to save her brother, but she didn't understand. Anthony was already dead, what good would trying to save a dead person do. "Anthony is dead." she murmured but there was still enough hope and question in her voice. She wanted to believe that she wasn't too late in saving her brother even though she failed the task she had been given. But such a task had been impossible for her. How could she kill a beloved king just to save her brother. She had a vague recollection of meeting the king when she was a child and her parents were still alive. He had given her candy, Anthony hadn't been born yet. She had met his son too, and she shook her head, forcing the memory to focus, looking at Trion. Was this the same boy she met those many years ago when she was still a noble's daughter?

But her family had soon been wiped out, assassinated, just as they were trying to make her do to his father. Anthony and she had been the only survivors, and they had been taken away. She had forgotten most of that life, and wondered why the memories were coming back to her suddenly. Anthony had never remembered those days, he had only known the hardships she had done her best to lessen. Her eyes cleared, and tears ran down her face again. "I'm sorry." she whispered, giving him a small smile, the first he had probably seen from her.

Trion was not surprised someone out there hated his family. He could only assume that it was someone in the aristocracy. People who wanted power always hated those above them that kept the short line between them and their ultimate goal. His father for the most part he always assumed has done a very good job handling people in the aristocracy, befriending most to a certain extent that they stayed happy under his rule.

"Evil in this world will always exist, and sadly it will alway cause us to suffer." he said in a calm voice, acting as if what she said had no affect on him, though the fact there was someone with power and money going after his family worried him to an extent. "However it is our duty to be strong in the difficult situations. The man claims to know everything, but trust me he is just trying to scare you." He smiled to her, hoping to calm her down a bit.

He scratched his chin though, concerned about her worry over he little brother. He could not see where she was coming from for the most part considering he was an only child, but he knew he would have to figure out a way to convince her that Anthony was still alive. He assumed the boy must be though, because otherwise the man lost his leverage.

"People who hold individuals hostage, are complex individuals my dear." He said looking at her seriously now. "He will not kill your brother because otherwise he will lose any hold he has over you, and lose all the ground he believes to have gained. You know more than you think, and because of that he will be hesitant in case you betrayed his trust." He stood and walked toward her a bit. "You must trust me, we can find a way to try and make this all better."

He did not know how else to get this girl on his side, but if he could do anything about the information on he brother, he would make sure she was kept in the dark so as to not have her panicking too much, and to have some hope in the whole difficulty of the matter.

User Image Risa looked at him for a few moments, not sure what to do or how to respond. Her mind was still a little bit fuzzy, and she was trying really hard to clear it, finally starting to suceed. "If Anthony is dead ... I don't have any reason to try to kill your father. I don't want to kill him ... he had been nice to me then and now. He is a good man. But I don't know what to do if Anthony is still alive. I have done a very bad thing. I tried to kill a good man. Even if Anthony is alive, what good will it do as I will not be able to take care of him anymore. At best I will go to jail." Risa gave up on not talking, fearing her sanity. She didn't realized that she had in fact also told Trion that she had met the king before this. In fact, she had forgotten that fact herself until Trion's questions had jogged her memory.

Risa shook her head again, wanting to focus, and determination entered her eyes. She looked at Trion and sighed. "I want to help you. There is nothing left I can do for my brother at this point. He probably is dead, though the man would probably lie to me and say that Anthony was alive. I can't believe anything any more. But I know this, I don't want to kill ... in fact, I don't think I have it in me to kill someone, let alone a well liked king. But I don't know what else I can tell you. I don't know anything, and short of seeing the man again, I can't tell you who he is." Risawas finally grabbing onto her sanity again, and she continued to take deep, calming breaths, hoping to stay that way. This whole ordeal had been way to much for her.

Risa laughed for a moment, as the memory of meeting Trion as a kid cleared. There had been talk of the two of them getting engaged and that meeting had been the first to see if the two could get along. Risa wondered why the memory was suddenly so clear. In fact, it was soon after that, when Anthony had been born and her parents assassinated. She wondered if their connection to the king had been the reason for the assassination. But after so many years, she could only wonder. She had a nasty scar on her back as the killers had tried to kill her too, but the servants had gotten her and Anthony out and travelled very far away. But the servants died within a few years, and that had left Risa and Anthony orphans on the street. Since then, Risa had done everything to take care of Anthony and provide him with whatever she could, even if it meant doing without herself. She never told Anthony that he was of nobel birth, but then again, she hardly remembered that herself. "Who would have thought I would meet you again?" she said more to herself, and ironic smile on her face. She did not explain her comment.

((Figured I'd add a twist to the story ... hope you don't mind)).

Trion did not show it in his expression, but he felt a sigh of relief rush through his body as he began to see her become more comfortable, and more willing to discuss all of the issues. He was also glad to see she was realizing she did something wrong, and that she garnered no harsh feelings toward his father. Though part of him was still very cautious because there was no guarantee she was not lying to him.

Trion shook his head at her though. "There is plenty you can do to help. You need to try and remember more! Tell me all you know, I have a plan of what to do, but there is no way we can execute it until i know I have everything you know." He spoke seriously to her now walking over and standing now next to the bed, testing her comfort once more.

He was curious by her next statement though. "Why did you think you would not see me again? I told you I would come every day." He seemed oblivious to what it was she was really asking, and the statement she was really making.

He almost immediately changed the subject. "Where did you and Anthony live?"

User Image Risa scooted to the back of the bed, not comfortable with Trion. She didn't know what it was about him, but he made her uncomfortable. Maybe it was the way he got her to talk. Or the fact that he was the first man she had ever found attractive. Not that it mattered. After her parents had been assassinated, she had never met him again, and had disappeared from his world. Heck, she didn't belong in that world anymore, as she was barely a servant. Though she wouldn't have minded being able to give Anthony those privledges if she had ever gotten the chance. He was such a bright kids and really deserved a decent chance.

Risa ignored his comment about seeing him again, not wanting to reveal her past, that she barely remembered herself. She had left that world, and didn't think she could ever belong in it again. She should count herself lucky that the King hadn't recognized her as she remembered the servants who had taken them away and raised her and Anthony said that she looked so much like her mother. He had seen her a couple of times, so she doubted he would make the connection, especially after all these years. Her name was still the same though, and if she hadn't already, she would have to be careful not to give them her last name. It was best she remained a nameless nobody, less someone decided to go after her and Anthony again.

She looked at Trion and blushed, he really was handsome, and it made her wonder that had things been different, he could have been hers. But that was the past, and now he wanted answers that Risa didn't have. "I don't know anymore about the man. Everything happened so quickly. And as to where we lived, it was a small village, about 34 miles from here. Under Count Driscol's rule. We are pretty poor, so live in a shack for the most part. I work hard to pay rent, get food, and let Anthony go to school. I work a lot so cannot be home much, which is when Anthony got taken. Then I was grabbed on the way home." Risa didn't mention that she had barely missed becoming a prostitute to keep them fed. He didn't need to know that part. And as for Count Driscol, he was not a nice Count, over charging thier village taxes, and keeping them poor. But she had never met the man, and didn't know that he had been the one who had kidnapped Anthony or set up this entire scheme.
