This week I was asked why if a Wormhole goes in only one direction how can video and audio signials be transmitted both ways? I looked into the aspects of a wormhole and found that it is caused by the positive matter from one place in physical space being removed and placed someware else. thus causing a pull of all matter in one direction because all physical matter that we can interact with is related to a posotive mass. My theory is that sence the radiowaves used are not made of a physical matter they just drift through all directions of space, the gate allows them to pass almost like a feedback, hence the broken matter stream and a bad quality. I would like to get some oppyons on this matter from anyone who has some real knowledge in the field, and please use ideas that can be backed up a little. Thank you.

Here's the Wikipedia article on wormhole theory:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormholes

According to the show, matter can only travel one way but energy can travel both ways through the wormhole. I don't remember the theory behind it, but it was used as a convenient solution.

If thought also alot about wormholes. Now, I'm in the hyperspacestadium XD
If you start to think about it, it goes above our heads.

Yeah, but here's my question...

If all matter is mostly tiny tiny somethings moving around in big nothings (quantum stuff comming up), and those tiny tiny somethings boil down to nothing more than waves of energy just like light and sound (which they are, just in a more concentrated form), why couldn't "solid" matter move both ways while "sound" and "light" can?

We all boil down to light and sound anyway...

Note: I don't remember where I read/saw/heard it from, but I remember one person explaining that if one could look at a real life wormhole, they'd be able to catch a glympse of what the place at the other end looks like because of light traveling both ways.

Sounds fun, I tryed to do a project over wormholes but the teacher said that it was too complex so I had to do it over black holes. It really was just not fair.

Radio waves, the waves that the SGC uses to transmit audio and video, like all other forms of electromagnetic radiation, are merely photons, particle, traveling in waves. The wavelength of the wave determines what type of radiation it is considered. Photons have no mass, which means that they can travel at the speed of light (radio waves are light, i know). Because a wormhole would theoretically only stop matter with mass coming through the other way, photons could come through. Now why they can't see through the stargate, a) that is more expensive then rippling water, and b) that would just be cheating and make it WAY too easy.
