If evolution is real, wouldn't there still be like 1/2 man 1/2 monkeys running around? This crossed my mind? haha

one accepted evolutionary model for the explanation of us being the only surviving member of the genus homo is this: (our scientific name is homo sapiens, don't make any jokes.)

According to fossils found of early members of the genus homo, there is sufficient evidence that our species, homo sapiens, killed them off or, in some cases, they died themselves. some may have killed each other. i don't know the evolutionary model that well, just a science channel documentary.

So, there were. but they died.

That's probably not the only model, but it is, to my knowledge, the most acceptable model.

Not necessarily. Speciation begins gradually, so we did have such creatures at one point. But eventually, species become more and more distinct, to the point where the physical resemblances are less specific, but undeniably related.

We are, actually. Tailbones FTW!

No, lose. No actual tails down there.

OK, I don't know.

But! With CREATIONISM, wouldn't their only be 1-0 people on earth? If we came form "Adam and Eve"?

The Singular Enigma

Actually, they're called pygmies, and they do exist. Also, there was a feral race of half-and-halfs found in the 1800's, using primitive tools and such, that the Spaniards eliminated.

Then by your logic sir:

Wouldn't there be Wooly Mammoths running around?
Wouldn't there be school-bus sized aligators swimming around?
Wouldn't there be White Rhyno's prancing about?

All of which have been proven to exist!~

In truth those creatures DID exist one point
in time. However like many other species they evolve and
those with characteristics that were less helpful for survival
died. Eventually it comes down to what we are now, and those
half-half ones became extinct.

And who knows? We humans are still evolving. Maybe in a 100
centuries we'd look completely different, maybe like Vulcans
we see in Star Trek, and they will look back in history
and think of us as we think of monkeys nowadays.

A newer theory suggests that Proto-Humans did exist up until just about 9-10,000 years ago, when the Earth got pounded by a huge meteor, which decimated the human population down to about 10,000 people. Any proto-humans just weren't equipped to handle the sudden climate change, where as our genus flourished with the ability to hack off animal skins and make fancy coats and such.

Most people have answered your question, those hominids with such features did exist during some times.
If you'd like to see an upright bipedal Great Ape with hand-like feet for grasping, I suggest you look up Ardipithecus ramidus, and if you have time watch the documentary "Discovering Ardi"

I just wanted to add some things to the discussion here

Though we've added the possible Homo floreseiensis to our list of possible hominins, we have only stories, and one skeletal example. The skeletal example is also questionable because its characteristics look like a normal person with a type of dwarfism that often has a linkage to microcephaly. In short, it could just be a midget. Much like polydactyly or sickle cell anemia, the frequency of such genes could be more prevalent in the areas that have more of these "hobbit sighting" stories.

For the feral half-and-halfs, what I've studied pertains to Spaniard sailors' tales of incredible aborigines living along the southernmost shores, still surviving without "civilized society". Many natives of those areas do have a lot of the "outlandish" characteristics that the sailor's mentioned, but archaeological records show that they were not half-and-halfs, and I *think* this was confirmed with molecular data too, but I'll have to research that again.

Actually, by simple mathematics, you technically are related to everyone - twice. I guess we're all at least 50th cousins of each other, even more so if you're dating someone in your same ethnicity and country of ancestry.

I am including some interesting links for anyone who would like to indulge their minds if they have the time:
