Hmmm... I like in the manga-forget the chap, sorry- when Riza runs into Barry. And when Mustang comes he sees Barry trying to get all over Hawkeye and the Col. gets all angered and is ready to torch barry. heart I know. that is a run on...
ooh and a few chaps later when they are steaking out the appartment where Falman is guarding Barry and Mustang is flirting on the phone with a girl because Riza is on vacation. What it really is though is Mustang is keeping taps on the opperation via Hawkeye. And he's acting like he's flirting with a flower shop girl because of the lines being taped.
Sure it was all code but it is the closest to openly flirting that I can think of.
I also like the episode-later in the anime- when Roy decided it is time to take Bradley down. The gorup is in Fury's hospital room and Roy randomly takes Fury's glasses and gently puts them on a confused Riza. heart
well that's all I can think of.

Am I the only one who thought the apple scene was symbolic, or there was somthing he left unsaid but implied?

And he strokes her hair. Roy Mustang has a hair fetish! XDDD

*= (I think maybe he's implying "MY WORLD", meaning Riza)

But if you think about it, at least to me, the underlying meaning was that he was talking about her.

Roy: "What's the frown for?"
Riza: "The plan was perfect. You did your part. But I should have gotten there sooner to protect you"

Roy: "Nothing's perfect. The world's not perfect. But it's there for us, trying the best it can. That's why it's so damn beautiful."

I think he was implying "just like you" in relevance to the comment about the world. Otherwise, it wound't have made much sense, right?

Which makles more sense in the situation? Which is more comforting? And if he didn't mean the second one, then why did he touch her hair? And why did Riza's eyes soften? They can probably read each other so well that she knew exacly what he meant.

And in Japanese, the final lines run a bit different.

J. Riza: Colonel... Colonel...! *heartwrenching tone* ROY MUSTANG!
E. Riza: General... *shakier tone* General... Damnit Roy Mustang, talk to me!

J. Roy: ...beautiful.
J. Riza: *smiles*
E. Roy: ...damn beautiful
E. Riza: *smiles* Just shut up and eat.
