Thoughts on Black/White Pokemon

So I finally sat down and went through the listings for the new Gen 5 pokemon on Serebii.net, and I have to say I'm kind of disappointed with the new "look" of the Gen 5 pokemon.

I mean, none of the other pokemon games have a noticeable "theme" to the pokemon's design, basing them instead off of animals and things found in nature. But Gen 5 clearly has an asian warrior feel to them...many of them look like they came right out of a samurai warrior fantasy film. MANY of the evolotions seem to add decorative armor and things like that, and even the more animal like pokemon still have a very asian feel to them.

They just look...wrong. Like they don't belong in a pokemon game so much as maybe a Digimon game or something (where it's common for them to get armor as they "digi-evolve" up). Visually, they just don't seem to "fit" with the other pokemon generations. And while this one is kinda cool looking, it seriously brings to mind a Digimon from the anime.

And this guy is apparently an ice cream cone? And this guy is apparently an ice cream cone?

And I have no clue what this one is based off of. It looks even stranger when it evolves. Ditto for this guy.

And this one just looks like lazy design work. *LOL*

That's not to say that they're all bad/weird. I like several of them (mostly the ones that look more animal like). This guy just looks TOO COOL. XD

And some of them have cool abilities like this guy, whose appearance changes based on the season! It's way more pronounced in the evolved form!

And I'm not a fan of spiders, but electric spiders? NEAT!

And I like the design of this guy! It's one of the better looking evolutionary chains in Gen 5!

And the new dragon is cool too! And so is this new mech-style Ghost/Ground type!

It is a bummer, though, that I don't see any new evolutions for previous gen pokemon. But this guy kind of looks like an evolution of Taurus, doesn't he?

Also, what's up with the really high evolution levels? At least a dozen of these pokemon don't evolve until level 50 or above!! So in other words, be prepared for a long haul to completing those Black/White pokedexes!

Well I mean it's probably really hard for them nowadays. So yeah some of them will have to look like Digimon or even Yugioh remakes. I just hope that they don't get slapped with a lawsuit or anything. LOL at ice cream Pokemon. Personally, its going to be fun for me to come up with nicknames for them. LV 50 may seem hard but I guess these next games will ask you to trade more. So all the more reason why I better save up for a DS lite and a maybe a 3DS? (I'm actually going to wait and see on the 3DS).

That's true, I guess, but I'm still not a fan of all the armor! And I'll probably get both if I can...just because I have no one local to trade with and no regular access to WiFi for online trading. ^_^;

While I think The ice cream (the Vaniluxe line) is cute, but kind of strange and the garbage bag pkmn is just wtf- I overall like the designs.

What I don't like, however, is what you mentioned- when they evolve, some of them get "armor" or accessories (take the new Eeveelution, Sylevon) which despite them being fantasy creatures, just seems strange for these things to be parts of their natural anatomy. Some of that was present anyways, but it seems to be more so now.
