Gegory's Estate

Rhys followed him unsteadily into the kitchen and sat down on the floor, out of the way. He didn't want to be alone right now, even if his host was just in the adjoining room. When he saw the chicken, he didn't know if he should be amused or insulted; he had wings and was going to be served poultry. Nonchalance won out as he listened intently to Gregory while he went about the kitchen. Rhys got the feeling he wasn't getting the whole story, but that was okay. Being able to talk to someone who might have shared similar experiences and confide in them... it brought a sense of solace he hadn't experienced in a long time. "Do you live here alone?" He hadn't seen anyone else thus far and, considering the size of the estate, it was curious to him.

Gregory looked to Rhys and remembered the wings, giving a frustrated sigh. "I suppose your being insulted for me cooking chicken. I'll see if I might have some other meat that isn't poultry."He mumbled as he put the cooked chicken on a plate off to the side, but continued to cook the potatoes. He searched his fridge, finding he had sausage and decided to cook that. "Yes i do, mostly because I rather prefer to be alone and do not wish to annoy anyone with my changing moods." He burned himself on the pan that he cooked the sausage in and cried out, getting into another one of his rage fits. Strange how they seemed to be coming more often than usual. He turned to the wall next to the stove and punched a hole into it. Though they seemed to be frequent this one didn't last very long. He was ashamed at the moment, "I'm not much of a stable person to be around others.." He pulled his hand from the wall and examined it, not only did it have a burn spot, but it had splinters in it too. He removed the foreign objects of the wall from his hand and washed the blood off in the sink.

Shock and fear shot through Rhys' veins when Gregory punched the wall. Something in his mind snapped when he saw the blood. He moved without thinking and found a clean towel. He wrapped a few pieces of ice from the freezer in it and set it down on the counter. Ever so gently, he took Gregory's injured hand, making sure that he'd removed the splinters, then handed him the ice pack. "Keep the ice on it for a bit," he said coolly, "And I'll take care of cooking. Everything's okay."

He washed his hands before checking the sausage and finished cooking it. After draining off the excess grease, he grabbed two plates, divided the sausage and plated them before starting on the potatoes. While he did this, he said, "I didn't mind, really. Don't worry about it," he pondered for a moment, then continued, "Do you have any aloe? The burn isn't bad, but it'd help." Tobias seasoned the potatoes with some salt, pepper and a bit of butter before plating them as well.

Gregory was confused when Rhys got up and put ice in a paper towel and pressed it to his hand, making him cringe a bit. "Uh, you don't have to."He said, sighing a bit as his words were too late to come out. He sat down at one of the chairs in the kitchen and looked at his hand. He shook his head to the question, "No, I'll be fine with out it." He felt relatively useless right now, having someone he pulled in to save his life is finishing up the cooking after he just had a mood change upon burning himself.

Tobias sat the plates down on the table and fell into a chair. "Just because I didn't have to doesn't mean I didn't want to," he grinned mischievously at Gregory, "Play nice or deal with me later. We survived Archer. I won't tolerate it if you hurt him." Tobias had no intention of letting anyone hurt Rhys ever again. They had suffered together for sixteen years, whether or not Rhys was aware of this. No one would ever survive if they treated them like Archer had if Tobias had his way. For now, however, his innocent side needed a chance to live without his interruption. He slumped against the back of the chair, seemingly unconscious.

Rhys stirred a minute or so later with a almost silent groan. He looked around for a moment in a daze, then glanced at Gregory, "How did I get over here?" He had no recollection of moving at all.

"Pardon me?"Gregory said as he turned towards Rhys, or whom ever it was at the moment. Seems there was more to the Roma's that he didn't know of. He was about to ask a question, but the boy of Rhys had gone limp against the chair then stirred and groaned, asking how he got onto the chair. "Something must of possessed you and moved you there." He seemed to a be irritated by this sudden out burst from some inward being with in Rhys, the person was unknown and throwing threats where they didn't belong. "What is hiding in him..?"Gregory thought as he wrapped his hand in gauze that he retrieved from a first aid kit that was conveniently placed in one of the kitchen drawers.

Gregory's assessment of the situation did nothing to help Rhys' confusion. If anything, it just made him more befuddled. He stared down at the table and let his tawny hair hide his face, "What do you mean? What happened?" His voice held an edge of panic. Rhys didn't understand why Gregory sounded annoyed; he didn't think he'd done anything to upset him, but with the lapse... he couldn't be certain. Looking straight at Gregory with his piercing blue eyes, he asked, "What did I do to you?"

"You threw threats at me."Gregory stated. "Saying if I were to hurt you in anyway that I would deal with you. You survived Archer, who ever the bloody hell that is." He placed the plated food on the table then prepared two cups of water also setting those down.

Rhys' eyes glazed over with pain when Gregory mentioned Archer, "He was my step father... but I never said his name. I never do if I can avoid it." A jolt of phantom pain raced through his body, highlighting on the old scars. His right humerus ached as though it had just been broken, rather than being a four year old healed injury, according to his medical record.

((No worries. I've been caught up in some fairly insane drama with a few friends. I've only been up for about 3 hours lol))

Gregory could see the slight pain in Rhys's eyes and was plunged into concern, "Rhys, are you ok?"He neared him, looking him over for any hidden wounds, but none were found. The situation baffled him and he wasn't sure what to do.

Violent tremors wracked his body as Rhys tried to control what only his body remembered. "Fragile doesn't even come close to describing how I feel," he said quietly, trying to keep the shaking from affecting his speech. He doubled over in his seat as his head fell into his hands.

Tobias flinched in Rhys' subconscious as he experienced that fateful day again. White walls stained with crimson droplets held his attention before the screaming started. Archer's face invaded his vision, "Wake up, you f**king punk!" The world around him faded into perfect, painless darkness for a moment.

“My god… Archer, let the boy go! You’ll kill him this time,” their mother screamed. She had forced Archer to let go. Half conscious, he'd ran for it, stumbling to his room. His life's blood seeped into the carpet and pooled for a moment as he fell against the wall. 'Everything will be okay,' he thought through the pain as he made it through his bedroom door and dead bolted it, 'Everything will be alright...i-if I can get away from here and save my worthless life.' Tobias barely remembered the phone call he made to the emergency number or the cops. He'd fallen to the floor and was praying they'd get there before Archer broke down the door.

Yelling echoed up the stairs, but he couldn't make it out. Moments later, Archer was pounding on the door as sirens sounded in the distance. Panic started to set in as he found he couldn't move. More yelling from the first floor enraged Archer; the door was beginning to splinter. Tobias' focus faded for a moment and when he regained it, a cop was talking to him. "Don’t speak. Save your strength for the hospital, Rhys. Brace yourself; we’re going to pick you up," he'd said. Searing pain took over and he faded to the security of the darkness for now.

Rhys caught brief glimpses, almost seeing what Tobias had kept to carefully hidden away. He fought off the agonized scream building in his chest. He looked up at Gregory, painfully disoriented by the disturbing after image; the man resembled Archer. He got up, knocking over the chair in his frenzy, and ran. Running was the only thing that had saved him so many times before.

Tobias watched and wished he could do something, but knew if he did, things would only get worse. "I am here.. when you are feeling alone, oh," he whispered, burdened by the knowledge that Rhys couldn't hear him, "A saviour for all that you do,so you live freely without their harm." Bitter despair gripped him and Rhys tripped in his flight. "When I hear your cries praying for life, I will be there."

Gregory hadn't expected Rhhys to run at him in all his furry and gregory's own untammed emotions rose to meet the frenzied and strifed boy before him. He caught the boy as he tripped and fell into him he grabbed Rhys's shirt and lifted him up off his feet. Black finite eyes full of anger, that shrowded his regret for his untamable emotions and actions, bore into the face of Rhys. He raised a hand and struck Rhys's cheek hard, hard enough to leave it red for hours. He raised his hand again to strike him, but stopped it there. What was happening now?

Terror filled Rhys' eyes as Gregory hoisted him off the ground. He clawed at the man's arms, trying to escape his grip, "Lemme go!" Stunned silence took over when Gregory hit him for a moment. He continued to hyperventilate, but swung his body enough to bruise his neck and kick the man in the gut.

Tobias' vision went blood red when Gregory hit Rhys. Rage overcame him, but he couldn't do anything. Rhys was panicking and another blackout might make him question his sanity. 'That man,' he snarled bitterly, 'does not listen well.'
