I'm American and also a lit major, so I know English very well. I am fluent in German and I studied abroad there.
I'm also learning Spanish (1 yr) and French (.5 yr) and still learning Japanese (1.5 yrs). I was sitting near my sensee's office and I could hear the 220 German class and I understood that and my sensee's conversation with her TA too.
yay.

I knew a girl who spoke fluent Korean, Spanish, and English, and was learning Japanese...But in my eyes, anyone who knows 2 languages or more is very talented to be able to switch between languages, especially with the differences in grammar and writing.

I'm part Norwegian, but I don't speak the language because my Grandma never taught my dad, even though he understands the words, and in return he never taught me. ): My mom is bilingual in Spanish and English, but she never taught me Spanish. = n=
My ex is Swedish, but Norwegian and Swedish are almost the same thing, and my Grandma and my ex talk to each other in their languages and have no problem understanding each other.
I'm alone in the English world. ;o;

If you're fluent in a Romance language you can damn near atleast manage the others. Except maybe Romanian, I've never actually heard that, but as far as French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian go, alot of simaliar grammar rules and alot of simaliar words.
