All roads lead to The Crossroads.

Only you know how you came to be here. Perhaps you were wandering at night and stumbled onto an unfamiliar fork in the path. Perhaps your ship sank in a storm and you washed up on the shore. Perhaps a magic ritual backfired, or worked all too well. Perhaps your Tardis crash-landed. The point is, you're here. Who knows how you're going to get home...

The Crossroads is a metropolis, a nexus of all realities, where anything can happen, and usually does. Where it is always twilight, and past, present, and future are all one. Where you can meet anybody--even a handful of the same person. Any place can be a part of it. The only limits are those on your imagination. And so, come in. Wander this patchwork city-state, explore its mismatched labyrinthine streets, meet its diverse citizens. Above all, beware, for there are dangers in this darkbright place, surely as there are wonders...

Rules:
1. Respect Gaia's TOS.
2. Respect the Guild rules.
3. Original characters are not to be duplicated without their creators' permission.
4. No more than three versions of any fandom character at a time.
5. Rating PG-16
6. All players must submit a character profile before beginning play.
7. In the Guild Rule which states that other people's characters may not be killed without permission, yes, the Storyteller's characters also count. To make it easy for any future players, if they encounter a character with a name, it's a character with the full rights of one. If it does not, it's fair game.

Storyteller's Note: Members who think that they can disregard the Guild or Game rules will find themselves hung out to dry, as two would-be usurpers found out the hard way early in the game. Generally speaking, I'm a laid-back ST, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let people walk all over me. Play by the rules and use a little sense, and we'll get along fine.

Character Name: Jasna
Original Character?: Yes
Fandom (if applies): Inspired by the works of Lewis Carol
Age: Unknown
Physical Description: In her human form, Jasna is tall, slim, and androgynous. She has long, gingery hair and a clever, sharp-featured face. Usually her choice of clothing makes her look like a cross between a stage magician, an old west gambler, and a cour jester. In cat form, she takes the shape of a sleek, violet-and-lavender tabby.
Personality: Jasna is a trickster with a cynical streak a mile wide and a morbid sense of humour. She will vocally attest that she cares about nobody but herself, but, underneath that, it's just possible that she has a heart of gold.
A Little Personal History: Jasna is a Cheshire Cat, and a shape-shifter. She grew up fending for herself on The Crossroads' streets, and has few illusions about life, and detests fairytales. She managed to survive her youth without selling... "physical favours" only through a combination of ingenuity and daring. Having become a visible fixture in the underbelly of the city, she is known to be something of a Jill of All Trades.

Character Name: Waif
Original Character?: Yes.
Age: Unknown
Physical Description: Waif is an androgyne in the true sense of the word, neither male nor female. It appears to be roughly 1o, and tends to dress in baggy clothing. Its hair is a short, spikey caleidoscope of colours, and its eyes always have a lost look to them.
Personality: Waif is a rather muddled person at the best of times. It is always looking for friendship and affection and tends to put blind trust in people, after the fashion of most children. When it is inevitably betrayed or disappointed, it can turn violent.
A Little Personal History: Wraith has no recollection of life before the Crossroads. All it knows is that it awoke there one day and has wandered there ever since.

Character Name: Aina
Original Character?: Yes.
Age: Unknown
Physical Description: With skin pale and luminous as the moon, eyes a deep, almost violet blue, and hair like a midnight waterfall, Aina doesn't seem to quite be real. There is something cool and aloof, yet soothing, about her beauty. She dresses in silk gowns and robes in pale shades.
Personality: Aina is quiet and gentle, and yet there is a subtle power about her. Those who have met her describe her as a compassionate woman, and supremely confident without the arrogance so commonly coupled with it.
A Little Personal History: The elusive guardian and gatekeeper of the Crossroads, nobody knows where Aina comes from or who, precisely, she is. People will often glimpse her upon arriving at the Crossroads. Only a fortunate few of those who seek her afterward will ever find her, but those who do always have great need, and are always helped.

Character Name: Neeron
Original Character?: Yes
Fandom: Based off of a chibi I drew in science class 8D
Age: ???
Physical Description: Neeron has white hair with black tips along the ends of her hair. She has flashy light green eyes and a curvy, but relatively thin body. She's a little on the shorter side, but isn't super short. She's got a baby face and looks very young.
Personality: Giggly, very mischeivious, playful
A Little Personal History: Neeron is a time traveling demon, who when entering this bizarre world, seemed to have lost her powers. She's sad that she doesn't have the ability to change worlds like she previously could, but seeing as she can't do anything about it, she just lives things as they are. She has two cousins; Urioyn and Erioen, who are twins. She thinks about her cousins frequently, as they are the only family she has.

Player: Ed-Bakuhatsu
Character Name: Lynnit
Original Character?: yes
Fandom: nope
Age: na
Physical Description: hes pretty! ^_^
Personality: he's a bit of a silly prat, a bit fabulous! He likes to change his gender at the drop of a hat--especially to discourage being hit on by mere mortals. Naturally, it doesn't work if they're bi, at which point he just curls up under the bed and won't be anything at all.
A Little Personal History: Well... He's an angel, see? He got kicked out of Heaven because he pissed God off, then got kicked out of Hell because Oni couldn't stand having anyone prettier than him around. So, nyah. At which point he wound up at the Crossroads. Yeah... Thingie... Um... I'm done. (There is a happy dale, far far away!)

Jasna opened her eyes to see that the skies were the dusky violet of twilight. This told her nothing. It was always twilight, here. Then the small brass clock on her mantle chimed thirteen times. Ah, much better. (Some people might find it odd to live in a place with 26 hours rather than 24 in a day, but for Jasna, it was simply another fact of life.)

Crawling out from beneath the soft, red and indigo, velvet blankets, she raised her slender arms heavenward and stretched. Pulling on a loose white shirt and black breeches, she opened a much-repaired pair of doors and stepped out onto the small, wrought-iron balcony and looked down onto the streets.

As always, they were a'bustle with activity. People and things-which-passed-as-people-here (some better than others) thronged the streets as they went about their business. In this part of town, it was often business of a shady nature, and that suited the Cheshire Cat well enough. Sighing, she went back inside.

Pulling on stockings and a pair of boots that rose nearly to mid-thigh, she surveyed the room with some satisfaction. It had been a shabby place, when she had first taken it as her own. However, years of successful wheeling and dealing had allowed her to turn it into a suitable lair, and live a moderately luxurious life (which she meant one day to be extravagantly luxurious).

Jasna completed her preparations by loosely braiding her gingery hair, pulling on a long, burgundy velvet coat, and slipping on a pair of granny-style spectacles. They were among her most prized posessions, the enchanted, yellow-tinted lenses allowing her to make out the weapons on a person's person even if concealed. Taking up her silver-handled walking stick and stowing her usual assortment of weapons and other useful things about her own person, she struck out to see what profits could be made this evening...

Upon exiting her building, the first thing Jasna heard was the clash of steel in the adjacent alleyway. As a seasoned denizen of the Crossroads' seedier streets, she knew the smarter thing would be to look the other way and continue about her business, but her curiosity got the better of her. Besides, she had a yen for a little excitement. Leaning her walking stick jauntily on her shoulder, she strolled down the alley on silent feet.

Two men were watching a third and fourth as they sparred, too absorbed in the battle to notice her approach. Plainly common thugs, she thought, noting through her shades that they carried no weapons but the ones they had out now--the one with the sword, the two with the remains of their staves at their feet . They probably hadn't been in the city long, to be traveling so light... That, or they were singularly--and undeservedly, from the looks of things--cocky.

"So," Jasna whispered into one of the spectator's ears, "Are we taking bets? I'll wager 100 silver on the big one."

The two men turned to her, plainly startled. "Where the hell did you come from?" one of them snarled.

"Oh, I'm a Crossroads kitty, born and bred." Jasna replied, grinning as only a Cheshire cat can--wide and sunny... with lots of sharp teeth. "Shall I take that as a no on the wager?"

In answer, the men swept up the remnants of their weapons, coming at her with their improvised cudgels held high. Jasna parried one stick with her cane and dodged another easily, her long, lean body flowing with the grace of one who had grown up fighting regularly. One foot lashed up to land a kick squarely on one of the thug's chins, snapping his head violently back. Her eyes glinted blackly from behind the yellow lenses. A bit of excitement could do a person a world of good...

Having knocked out the last thug with a well-placed swing of the silver knob that capped her walking stick, Jasna had turned her attention to the two men. She marked them for being relativly new to the city, but not the sorts often referred to as "tourists". No rubes or hapless flotsam free to prey upon, these two.

The elves arrived before introductions could be made. Seeing the other two tense up in preparation for another fight, Jasna quickly stepped forward, her hand held up in peace. "Local Assassins' Guild." she murmured to her new companions by way of explanation, then turned her attention more fully to their potential opponents. "Arafinwë Súrion, Elrohir." she said, by way of greeting to the one she recognized as senior officer of the three. "Don't mind us; we just encountered some stray trash on your doorstep."

"So we saw," said the elf quietly, "It was most entertaining." He pointed to Jasna's and Tempest's opponents. "We'll have the two apprentices yet living back. The third..."--he looked coldly at the broken coprse Moonbeared had landed on--"failed this test." The temperature of his glance dropped a few more degrees as he looked again at the other two students. "As would these have, had you and your friend not been merciful, Jasna."

"Natural selection can't be beaten." said the Cheshire cat, nodding wisely. She took a few steps back and turned her attention to her new companions. "Best that we leave." she whispered, "They've got archers and snipers secreted all over the place, if I know them, but we won't be attacked again unless we make the first move. I've worked with them a few times."

After blinking several times, Neeron's consious mind surfaced and she was now awake compared to her half-asleep-half-awake stage she often reverted to when tired. She looked to her left, nothing she could really remember was visible. It all seemed like a colorless blurr, as though someone had spilt greyish ink on a pure white canvas. Where was she exactly? She didn't know.

"Uriyon? Erioen?" She called, looking rather distressed. "W--where are you?"

Jasna led the way out onto the street proper. In the better parts of town, the dusky thoroughfares were lit by enchanted crystal globes, or even electricity if you were truly rich. (After all, magic, here came free for those who knew how to use it--and most in the Crossroads did.) Here, in the Underbelly, the lighting came from free-floating will-o-the-whisps and torches. The cobblestones were left clear for pedestrians, the occasional rider, and vehicles ranging from animal-drawn to steam-powered to mechanized, but the sidewalks were crowded with vendors' stalls. Their proprietors called out into the twilight, extolling their wares, which were as varied as the beings who sold them.

She overheard Moonbeard's question as they emerged. "Well," she replied, "I, personally, am running late for a transaction with the Sphinx. I suppose you two could come along if you like. A little extra muscle is always useful, and I'd be willing to cut you in." She turned and, glancing up at the two men over the top of her tinted spectacles, gave a witchy smile. "My name is Jasna, by the way. Cheshire cat, Jill-of-all-trades, currently functioning as... shall we say an entrepeneur." She cocked a gingery eyebrow. "And you would be...?"

*************

As Neeron looks around, the mist surrounding her begins to dissipate, revealing a twilit sky above. She finds herself sprawled on a bridge. The river that runs below flows into the nearby sea.

A... person is perched on the bridge railing, looking down at her, bare feet swinging merrily. It doesn't appear to have a gender, it's physical features a perfect balance between male and female, it's short, messy hair a caleidoscope of colour. It wore a baggy, brown sweater that was as much patches as it was knitting, and baggy, tattered trowsers in a dark, charcoal gray. It appeared to be roughly 10 years old. "Hi!" it said brightly..
