Shrouded water. Strong willed and icy. Secretive and fierce. Shrouded by fire.
So I'm trying to color my hair to blond. Like a sandy-ish honey blond. And my mom and I didn't want to jump straight to the coloring so we bought this shampoo that is supposed to bring out the blond in your hair and I just used it and I think it worked but no one else in my family sees a difference in it. (It might just be because I asked while they were playing Guitar Hero.) We might get the color so that we can color my hair like tomorrow or something. But how do I know what's the best and how do I keep it from fading? What's the best way to color your hair without screwing up? Anyone screwed up before? I don't want my hair to be orange!! gonk

I need pictures in order to see what shade you best suit you. But use Lo'real Paris Colour Preference. I t is a color cream that is non-drip and you can't mess up unless you miss a part of your hair. Have someone else do it for you, because I learned that doing it yourself isn't the best way to learn. I messed up once and it looked like I had a cowprint on the back of my head. So yeah, have one of your friends help you who knows what they are doing, or have your mother help you. It's easy to mess up, but don't be too cautious or psyche yourself out.

Fuwahahahaaaaa~ >D This is my favorite hobby. <3 [/dying my hair]
The thing with bottle or box color is that you never really know how it's gunna turn out in your hair until you do it. The reason why, is everyone's hair is different. If your hair is medium brown right now, you'll want to get two bottles or boxes of dye. One for tomorrow(or whenever) and the other for about 5 days or so later, to escape possible damage to your hair.
Box dyes, use maybe a L'Oreal or Garnier. Get maybe a shade or two lighter than Sandy Blonde if your hair is dark. (If your hair isn't dark brown, just get one box, it'll probably give you the color you want.)
To keep it from fading, get shampoo and conditioner made for protecting colored hair. Something like Redkin will be good, but regular brands like Herbal Essence have also created products specially for colored Hair.
A thing to know about coloring hair, is that it goes through stages. Dark Brown for example(just to start from the bottom of the coloring stages) Goes from Red(usually just tinted) to bronze, copper, orange-ish and finally a dark, coppery-blonde. Maybe not exactly like that, but then again, I'm only speaking from experience.
<.<; I screwed up once. But experimenting with blue semi-permanent dye on freshly dyed natural-blonde hair doesn't really mix. It turned green. xD Glad I had some extra blonde dye stashed away. That's they key to fixing mistakes. Always keep a back up hidden away somewhere that you know'll bring you back to a color you like.

When I was younger I dyed my hair like every week.. and unless your hair is already blonde, I would highly recommend getting it done at a salon. I learned that the hard way. I went from black to white blonde and my hair just.. died.
It's more money... but seriously.. you can really ******** up your hair otherwise.
My hair hasn't been it's natural colour in like... 7 years...

ooh oh.. Teh Kaa Chan is right. Boxed dyes don't have pH levels that match your particular colour, which is something they do at a salon to ensure that your hair doesn't fry or turn out the wrong colour.
If you have ever been to a salon you will notice that they have formulas they follow to mix the colour just right for your hair.
More reason to go to a salon..haha.

I would stand in line for this
I used to do my own hair, but I`ve only ever gone completely blonde. . . twice I think. The first time was an accident, I was trying to do a strawberry blonde and it came out white.
I do recommend going to a salon, especially if your hair is long and|or really thick. It`s comes out cheaper for me to have someone else do it when my hair gets to be about shoulder length, so you may want to take that into account.
But if you decide not to go pro, make sure you have enough dye. Cannot stress that enough. It sucks really bad to run out because no matter how fast or how close the store is, you`ll end up with different shades.

Oooh, hair color! Lawl, right now my hair is three different shades. ^^ It looks pretty spiffy. It's dark brown at the top, red in the middle and black at the bottom. xD
And and and going to the salon is more expensive for me than me doing it myself, lawl. Even if my hair is longer.
And I've never done blonde, cause I would look weird. But I highly recommend going to the salon if you're dying it blonde.

I don't like coloring my hair! I have blonde hair so everytime I try to dye it, it turns out different. Like I tried to die it red and it turned out pink. I had it like that for like 2 or 3 weeks.

that happened to my friend, lol
But me, I get layers of different colors put in my hair. First it was dark dark dark red, then I went to teal blue, then kind of a fuchsia, and right now I have it with blond ^_^
One sky... One destiny...

I would really like to get blue highlights but I know that that's where my mom would draw the line and be like "Get them and die."

Well, I do agree with the rest of the people, getting your hair done by a professional is what's best.
But if you want to do it yourself, go to a beauty supply place and they might help you select what is best. But when getting a color, make sure you get a color that has a brown base because when it starts to fade, it'll just start fading to a brown.
That happened to me once, I died part of my black and it turned out blue because that it it's base color.

yohabroha2 I don't like coloring my hair! I have blonde hair so everytime I try to dye it, it turns out different. Like I tried to die it red and it turned out pink. I had it like that for like 2 or 3 weeks. Please tell me you were using something cheap or a crappy brand like Manic Panic for that. I've dyed my hair pink before without using bleach. 'Twas awesome. I missed a few spots but it worked out to be kinda like highlights. I wanna do a dye red/burgundy color now that I'm unemployed. 3nodding
